  1. You can use the 97 bushings on all model year SC's. You can also use the 94-98 Supra LCAs. The Supra LCAs come with new ball joints and bushings. The bushings in the Supra LCAs are made of a harder rubber compound so the ride will be a little firmer compared to using the 97 SC bushings which are made of a softer rubber compound. Don't forget, the SC was built to be a luxury sports coupe whereas the Supra was built to be an all out sports car. Hope this clears up a few things.

  2. I purchased a set of 18" wheels approximately 1 year ago and have just recently found some tires and had them mounted.

In searching for a set of tires, I've seen everything from well known tires at $175+ each.

I did not want to spend $600+ on a set of tires. So I continued to search until I found some tires that are made in Korea. Nexen bought out a Michelin tire plant in Korea in 1992. They have recently introduced a tire to compete in the aftermarket wheel craze market.

    The tires I ordered are Nexen N3000 245 40 ZR18.

I found them on Ebay for $315.00 Plus $70 Shipping. That is $96.25 per tire delivered. I thought I would give them a try.

I mounted them last night and drove several miles with them and was highly impressed with there performance.

They gripped very well on wet pavement and had almost no road noise. On a dry straight stretch I ran it up to 100mph, with the radio off and was amazed that road noise was alomost no existent.

The tires are rate 380 AA A.

As far as I know this is the same size tire that is used on the SC430. I must verify this. I may buy another set and put aside for the 430.

I bought a set for my 18" HP EVO wheels. I haven't mounted them yet because the wheels haven't arrived yet! It's good to hear that they perform well though. I got 245/40/18's for the front and 265/35/18's for the rear and I paid $484 delivered. You can't beat the price anywhere.

  3. It is cheaper to pick up or ship a good car than it is to take a bad car nearby and try to fix it.

I'm with him on this one. You are much better off buying a GOOD car from half way across the country and having it shipped. Shipping would be around $700-900 and good SC400's can be found on autotrader or ebay. Just have them checked out by a Lexus dealer. You might be able to enlist the help from a LOC member who is nearby a car you are interested in. Good luck.

  4. The fact that you can buy a low mileage 1UZFE V8 engine for $400 should tell you that they last a long long long long time (when taken care of). There's just no market for them because they don't break! My 92 SC400 has 163k on the clock and it looks and drives like a 40k mile car. The Toyota/Lexus 1UZFE V8 was WAY ahead of it's time when it was designed back in the late 80s.

  5. For once, I actually agree with what the dealer said. At 102k, there is no way that you need to replace all 8 control arms. You don't drive like a bat out of hell over pot hole covered roads, do you? The front lower control arms are usually the first to go and then MAYBE the rear lowers. I'd get it checked out somewhere else first and see what they say.

  6. There are 4 reasons for poor gas mileage.

    1) Tune up needed

    2) Carbon build up or dirty fuel system

    3) Mechanical / emissions problem

    4) Driving habits

The first thing I'd do is check for any vacuum leaks. Next I'd change the air filter if dirty and run some Techron as suggested or try Seafoam. Seafoam is fantastic for getting rid of the carbon build up and cleaning out the fuel system. If that doesn't fix the problem then do a complete tuneup (plugs, caps, rotors, wires, fuel filter, pcv valve). If you are still getting poor mileage then you may have some other problem. Has the check engine light gone on at all? If after doing all of the above and you still have poor mileage then..........SLOW DOWN! :D just kidding

  7. You could also look for 95-00 LS400 calipers. They are also 4 pot and fit the SC's just like the Supra TT calipers do. BTW, I know of 2 people on another forum selling TT calipers. I can send you a link if you want. PM me if interested.

Sorry, I don't know if the Z32 calipers will work or not.

  8. I had the same problem when I installed Eibachs on my 92 SC400 last summer. I did a write up of how I resolved this issue on another forum. I did exactly what Eibach wants to do for you. I attached some rubber hose around the top coils in the rear to absorb the coil slap that was occuring over certain bumps or pot holes. It worked great as the noise went away.

  9. Good luck with the new ride. I bought my 92 SC400 last spring as a daily driver to keep the miles off my 2000 RX300 and fell in love with it. Loved the SC so much I bought a 2nd SC, a 1995 Platinum SC400. The SC bug will bite!! So, do you have turbo plans?

  10. The paint code can be found on the driver's side door just below the door latch on a sticker. The pearl white is a three stage paint process. Base coat, pearl flake coat and clear coat. PPG makes good paint, but matching the paint is best done by a quality body shop that mixes their own paint or a auto paint supplier. Bring them your gas cap for a color match if you are going to buy your own paint. I wouldn't recommend trying to paint this yourself as the 3 stage paints are very difficult to match properly. Best to leave it to a professional. Hope this helps you out and good luck.

  11. I just ordered the ones from Rock Auto as the EBAY supports I bought are useless.

Local Lex Dealer wanted $144 EACH!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Crooks.

Rock Auto Price is $39 for both plus shipping.

    Thanks for all the help.

Did you buy aftermarker?  If so where

    OEM are around $100

I got my ebay shocks to work by using a dremel to get the ball stud out and altering the clips a bit to go on the other end. It took me about 45 minutes to do the entire job. Do you still have the ebay shocks? I may be interested in them. PM me if you have them and want to sell them.

  12. I looked on the www.lexuspros.com site but did not see the coolant reservoir.

I also was looking at ebay and someone was selling the lower control arms for 385. Does anybody know where i can get these any cheaper? They said that nobody replaces just the bushings, they recomend replacing the whole control arm is there any truth to this?

see my post above. It answers your questions.

  13. TURBO - GREAT IDEA!!! Xenon lights - ANOTHER GREAT IDEA, but only needed for the lows. Why an airbag suspension?? I'd go for coilovers. How about a body kit or 97+ body conversion? If the leather shows some wear then maybe some new leather seat's from leatherseats dot com would look great. Wheels too.
