Black int. in Arizona??? Yikes!
Does sound like this 98 isn't worth dealing with though. I'd keep looking.
-
so i was wasting my money all this time!
Absolutely, sorry.
-
I waited a year for the right 98 to come along. I'd definitely go with that over the 97.
-
Please,gawd...please please PLEASE never make me own an American car again.
-
wow...that car's barely broken in.

I've got Bridgestone Turanzas on my LS400...great tire for much less than Michelin. I avoid Goodyear at all cost any more...too many bad experiences. You can likely get away with a lower speed rating unless you're an absolute maniac on the road.
-
nevermind...just bought it.

Thanks guys...glad to hear it. Think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this.

Looking at a 99 GS300 and searching here for info about the Toyota sludge problem. So far all I'm seeing is that it's the ES V6 that is prone to it. Can anyone give more insight? (Recently got rid of a Chrysler sludger and don't want any more of that).
Thanks.

I do know that carfax isn't the "be all end all"...just trying to get as much info as I can. The seller has an autocheck report, but there seems to be holes in it. And he has no service records. He claims the previous owner did the timing belt (along with a bunch of other stuff). So trying to find what I can as quickly as possible. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. The switch seems bad because in addition to the light not coming on, it doesn't have the positive "click" that the passenger's side one does.

Hi all. Looked at a 99 GS300 for the wife...decent shape. The are3 or4 interior wood trim pieces that have delaminted...in other words, the plastic-ey top coat has come off the wood. Anyone else run into this?
Also....seems the switch for the drivers seat heater is bad. No big deal, I assume?
Also I headlight (low beam) out. Just a routine bulb replacement?
Thanks!

HI. Looked at a GS300 for the wife so we can be an all Lexus family!
VIN JT8BD68S9X0074483
Thanks for the help!

There are people that think using aftermarket hood struts will cause the world to end too.
-
Almost for sure a balance issue.

My 98 is at 117,000 and I wouldn't think twice about going across the country in it. Great cars.
-
My 98 idles at around 550-600 in gear with AC on. With AC off it drops to around 400.
-
So far so good with Bridgestone Turanzas....only about 15,000 on them though.
-
It's been about 14 months since I got my LS 400, and not one bit of trouble...NONE! That's MUCH longer than I've ever gone with other (American) cars...even new ones. These are truly wonderful machines! Just wanted to share.

No!
One of the things I love about my ls is that you cannot really tell when the ac is on. From an acceleration standpoint, or noise (well a little). Every car I've owned up to the ls400 would pause, shudder, bog down, or hesitate on A/C.
The ls should not. You may be able to hear the comp. but not much. Maybe at idle w/ the window down.
Sounds like the re-built wasn't rebuilt too well.
I'd check:
1-Amperage draw- could be a bad connection/ ground issue -check if it is within spec.
2-Oil charge- make sure the comp is not working overtime-- low oil will burn it out quickly. The whining on acceleration sounds like a low / no oil issue. Takes a lot of oil. Ask reman how much. Comp's need to come loaded with oil (the right oil for your refrigerent --r12-mineral oil-- 134- (pag or ester?). They are NOT compatible. Make sure comp was charged w/ oil when installed. May need more.
3- make sure ac low side pressure is somewhere in the 25-35psig range at idle after a couple minutes. This changes upon ambient outside temp. Add a refrigerent charge if low. What refrigerant are you using? Above is for r-12. Google: r12 a/c pt chart.
Idle should auto bump up, upon engaging a/c.
Check for leaks. Don't assume a new system does not leak. Do it before warranty runs out.
Sounds like another bad a/c job done by amateurs.
Save that compressor!
It does bump up upon engaging. r134 . I will find out how much oil in system.
Talked with mechanic he said compressor was full of oil and he added two ounces. He said he can try to add more if i want but he thought that would be enough. I want to know what you think. Air blows well, just that slight wine or humm when i turn on compressor. car seems harder to accelerate when the air is on. I will have him check pressure but he said he checked it and it was fine before he gave me the car back. I will also have to have it checked for the ground and amps.
I had a reman on another car (not a Lexus) and it was noisy too and pulled the motor down a bit. Sounds like it's just a low quality reman.

My GS has that....don't think my LS does.
