  1. Thanks for all your input. I know mini vans are the smarter choice for me but was looking for any reason not to buy one. Oh well, I guess they'll be calling me the mini van man pretty soon.

We have loaded 2006 Sienna Limited; we also have a 96 LS400 and my brother have a loaded 03 GX470. My wife and I both prefer the Sienna over the LS and the GX. The fit and finish on the Sienna come close to the Lexus but not quite. BTW, does anyone one knows what generation the navigation system is on the 2003 GX470? I am looking for an update navigation DVD for him. Thanks.

  2. Evening all,

I just happen to be in the garage working on my snow blower (another story about Home Depot). I heard a very soft flapping sound. Initially, I thought it was some kind of animal but it keep repeating about every minute or so. I found that the sound was coming from my 96LS in the front driver side's fender. Anyone has any idea what this noise is? Pls advise.

  3. Hi,

I wonder if this behaivor will effect the car or it is normal,

in LS 98 , I can shift the gear from D to 3 to reduce the speed, which is easier and make the break pads last longer.

is this kind of behaivor will effect the car some how .

in manual shifting cars , it is possible to do so and no effect if you do it in the right range.

    Regards.

Why would you want to? It is cheaper to replaced the break pads than the transmission. Just my 2 cents...

  4. Good moring all,

Can anyone tell me how much oil an LX470 take with and without replacing the oil filter? Also, where can I get an owner's manual for this vehicle? It's a 2000 model with 53,000 miles. Thanks for your assistance...

  5. Yeah, it's quite simple: http://www.lexls.com/drivebelt.html  FYI, there is a sticker under the hood that shows the proper routing of the belt ;)

My 96 LS drive belt is making noise recently when it is cold outside. The noise will stop once the engine is warm. I had this belt and the timing belt replace about a year ago. Is this noise normal? If not, how can I adjust the tension on it? Another question, if this belt tensioner is spring loaded, should it adjust by itsef? pls advise....

  6. That's interesting...My telescopic memory feature is buggy as well. Sometimes it will return to the last position on startup, sometimes it won't. I just resorted to turning the auto feature off :(

I can't imagine why the seating memory would affect the telescopic position, but what do I know. I lost seat memory when I replaced the driver seat with one in better physical condition. My telescopic memory was buggy before the seat swap though.

I'll look through my service documentation to see if the seat and steering memories are connected in anyway.

Ok guys...I don't believe there is a connection between the seats and the steering memories....here is the link to the steering issue. Good luck !http://www.clublexus.com/index.php/article/articleview/2077/1/41

  7. Hi,

First time on the forum. Just got 1995 LS400 from Lexus of Marin. 100K miles. Dealer service records every 5k mi since new documented.  Car stalls or has really low idle around 300-400 after prolonged freeway driving.  It starts up right away after putting it in neutral and drives perfectly fine.  I have found postings that suggest it is the ECU.  I am wondering if LEXUS is offered a recall or any special program so I don't have to eat the whole bill if it is indeed the ECU which it sounds like it is.

On a side note, I am going to change the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and both coils because I feel the car miss occasionally in idle.

I can live with the problem, but would like the car to run perfectly since everything else works perfectly fine.  The dealer gave me 100 mile/30 day "major mechanical" warranty. but I don't think that the Major Mechanical clause includes ECU, or at least the dealership will give me a hard time about it.

    Will appreciate any advice.

    Yo

I had the same problem with my 96LS...my dealer here in Columbus OH replace the ECU and the problem was solved....They didn't charge me anything for this service. This was done about a year ago when my LS has about 79K miles on it.....

  8. My driver's sioe heater doesn't work either. I've been waiting for someone to reply to your post to help me out as well. Too bad no takers so far.

I have a 96 LS and none of the heater on the seat work, driver and passenger. Each seat has three heating elements in them. They are costly to replace. My dealer quoted me over 2k to replace the heating elements....I decided not to have this replace. You should do a seach on this site for instructions on how to replacing the elements. I have seen it on this forum before...good luck...

  9. Good day all,

I have notice that my tilt/telescopic does not complete the travel cycle when the key is inserted or removed from the ignition. I found the technical service for this problem but I am not sure how to removed the following parts:

    1. End pad surrounding ignition key cylinder

    2.No 1 under cover

    3.No 2 safety pad

    4.Steering columb cover

Thank you for your help.

  10. My 96LS power antenna decided to stop working today. I can still hear the motor running when I turn the radio on and off. I have removed the antenna and found that the drive cable is only about 7.5" long.

    1. Should this drive cable be longer?

    2. How hard is it to remove the cable if it is broken in the power antenna motor unit?

    3. What is the cost of the mast itself?

Thank you for all input. Cheers to all.

    KT
