  1. Anyone using a cover everyday? I have to park my new IS250 out in the sun while at work (8-5) and am considering purchasing a cover to use everyday. Of course I would get the top of the line cover so I won't scratch the paint. I can just imagine that putting it on and taking it off everyday will get old quick. I've been used to going from garage to garage up until now. My company is moving and there is no covered parking anymore. I guess if a cover is not the way to go, I'll just tint the windows. Any advice?

  2. I don't have it yet, still deciding on colors. Light colors will not show spider webs or hairline scratches as bad as dark colors. In addition, dust is not as noticeable from far. I wash my car all the time and would use a chamois if it was a dark color. However, if someone else wash your car and used a towel, would it cause swirl marks on a metallic dark color paint? I have a silver Mercedes and it is easy to clean. I was debating if I should get an IS in granite.

  3. I've used Wheel Wax on my Mercedes. It is made for wheels and will withstand heat. Most wax breaks down due to heat. Wheel Wax will not. It is supposed to repel brake dust as well. It doesn't prevent brake dust but it takes longer for it to be noticeable on the wheel. Also dust come off easily when cleaning. I stopped using it because I got tired of waxing my wheels. I just clean them regularly. If you want to buy it, just Google Wheel Wax.

This is why I'm interested in knowing how bad the dusting is on the IS. I don't mind cleaning it once a week. But for my Mercedes, I have to clean it twice a week to keep it looking shiny and clean. So any additional info on the dusting is appreciated.

I wash my car so often it doen't get a chance to build up.Whatever you do don't put anything behind the wheels like those "Kleen Wheel" products. They hold heat in and will warp rotors,I don't know if they even still make them but stay away from anything that will build heat.I think my dust comes from my speeding on freeway ramps. My other performance car is a 450hp Fox body Mustang that handles like crap.

What I don't understand is... being the 350 is a 4 wheel braking system.... why is it just the front wheels that has brake dust?

Yesterday when I was cleaning the wheels... I noticed the front is bad... and the rear didn't have any black what so ever?

The reason is, the front brakes work harder than the rear. That's how they are designed. You need more stopping power in front than the back.

About how many miles did you drive before you saw noticeable brake dust in the fronts?

  4. Wow! That's pretty good. Did it take you a while to get him to go that low, or was he pretty willing to make you a deal? And what style (250 or 350) and options did you get?

I didn't get it yet. Still deciding on color. I used to work with the salesman. I think that's the standard discount he gives to people he knows. I'm looking at the 250. Thinking of tungsten pearl and black leather or granite and black leather. I was contacted by another dealership and he offered $2k below msrp (typical discount). The salesman I know is $300 lower. That is a small difference. Now I want to see how much the broker (who I got my last two cars for $500 below invoice) can get lower. I know invoice price for this car is out of the question (for now).

  5. What's the difference between the 2 headlights? I just bought the IS250 and it says I have Bi-xenon High Intensity Discharge headlamps? Is that a combonation of the 2 you mentioned? I am confused?

Wait a minute...I thought HID is not available on the 250. You have to get a 350/sport or luxury package to get the HID. When you go to lexus.com, the 250 cannot be equipped with HID. What's the scoop?

Also, if you want to convert to HID, the wiring would have to be changed right? You can't just change the bulbs.

  6. I don't have mine yet but planning on purchasing one soon. How bad is this brake dust issue? I have a Mercedes and have to wash the wheels constantly because of the black brake dust. After washing it then driving 100 miles (after 3 days), the wheels are no longer shiny and I can see the black dust accumulating. If I let it go for a week and drive 50 miles a day, it would surely be dark by the end of the week. Especially the front wheels. Do you guys have this experience with the 06 IS? Is it as bad as German cars?
