Took the '93 into the dealer for various issues. When I got it back today, the tach needle registers just fine. I didn't report it to them, so they did nothing speciffic to repair it. Either way, it works well now. Guess I dodged a bullet here!

Could be the valve cover gasket.

My "splash guard", according to my Lexus dealer , is missing. He recommended not replacing it.

Ouch. Sounds like a vacuum or mechanical operated internal damper/door has malfunctioned. It's all inside the dash. Good luck, as this won't be easy or cheap to repair.

Got my '93 yesterday. Noticed last night the tach needle/pointer isn't moving. It lights up just fine. Am I looking at a new gauge cluster, or what?

There's a company, ABCMARTS, selling new struts for LS hoods on E-Bay for $40.00/pair plus $9.95 S/H. I thought I'd pass this along for those in need. I've got a pair ordered. I'll post results when I get them on.

Welcome,
I've read that some of the electrical switches are fairly easy to remove. And with cleaning of the switch/contacts. Will function again.
Thanks. I'll try cleaning the switch first.
By-the-way, Walt, your avitar is spooky!

New to the forum. I've been lurking for a couple-a-days. Decided to join as I'm about to purchase my first Lexus, a '93 LS 400. The car is a one owner, serviced, Champaign Gold, tan leather, with just under 100k. I think I got a pretty good deal at $7 large, considering the Dallas market. Several really good dealerships in the area, too.
Thanks to all for the posts on issues to look for before purchase. The only non-functioning item on the car is the power mirror switch. I know I can replace that, easily. Otherwise , I look forward to owning and driving this oh-so-nice car. Until then, I shall remain....

Well, that was one of the easiest swap-outs ever. a grand total of 15 minits. Couldn't have been easier, and the hood stays up! The struts arrived here, from Florida, in 4 days. too.
