  1. Hi, I've got about 175'000 miles on my '92SC 400. It runs very well , although other than fluid and oil changes nothing have been done to it during last 50'000.

I think driveshaft or tranny is getting slightly louder.

Anyone heard of any maintenance or part changes to be done for high mileage SC? Any driveshaft bearings to be replaced yet?

  2. Hi,

    I need one too.

My 92' Nak 12-cd changer doesn't work well when road condition is worse than perfect.

I had ERR message coming up on half of CDs, however I found the cause. Changer's CD drive, when starting to spin the CD, just slipped . It wouldn't allow CD to spin fast enough.

I just put some paint drops on CD drive shaft, it solved the problem. CD changer reads all of my discs but works very poorly at bumpy roads.

  3. Nice thread Jibby!

I have same year , same colour SC400 as you do. I bought the car while working in NY. I have left US 3 years ago but the car is still with me in Europe!

150k miles now. no big problems with it. However there are couple things replaced this year - radiator and water pump due to leaks.

I thought of installing some aftermarket parts and first things pop im my mind are Dragon Converter and NOS.

Would you suggest to start with NOS?

Anyone knows what is HP gain at flywheel or wheels?

  4. I reckon SC400 with original OZ wheel would look better if I'd use spacers. I was going to find ones but the question how thick could be spacers as bolts on which wheel sits doesn't seem very long to accomodate more than 30mm spacers.

    Any suggestions?

  5. Hi ,

    Looking for general advice.

Do you guys ever practice "power braking" (pressing accelerator and brakes simultaneously) in order to engage wheelspin prior for off line acceleration?

I tried but very slightly - reached 2000 rpm with sligthly pressed brakes (just to keep car off from starting)

I noticed rear wheels started spining. I didn't experiment further as i am afraid to damage my beloved car.

    Any comments on this?

Can i ruin torque converter or automatic gearbox by doing that?

  6. Hi guys,

I am happy owner of 93' SC 400. I think as car is 13 years old now catalytic converters are toasted already. Other than increasing pressure in exchaust system they don't do anything.

Do you think it is good idea to remove 'em ? Shall it give some little extra power?

If you do not recommend that, please expain why.

  7. Hi There,

I had a problem with 12 CD Nakamichi changer on my SC400 '93.

It would display ERROR on half of my CDs...with no particular pattern i could notice.

After detaching tha plastic cover of CD i looked how it worked. I notice that cd driver would just

slip and wouldn't rotate some of CDs.

I tried to stick some little pieces of duct tape close to the center of CDs. And it worked fine after that!!!

    Problem was solved so easily.

The permanent fix of problem requires the friction increase of cd-driver surface. I just touched it up

with some kind of paint. It works now.

My friend did the same and it helped as well.

Although after tinkering with changer, shock protection would not work well.

Any suggestion how to restore shock and vibration protection of changer???

    Best regards,

    Stas Ivanov
