Hi,
It looks darker than what i can see at my car's dipstick.
I changed original bushings to Daizen for front lower control arm. I gave it my car mechanics.
If you do it yourself , you need a torch to head original bushings and press it out of control arm.

The GS400 you are mentioning has 180'000km which is quite a lot. It's been reported the early 90's lexus have been built with better quality. Therefore i'd chose 250'000km 92' SC400.
Also, SC400 corners so much better than GS.
The only thing on SC i am not happiest about is 4 speed gearbox.

Check if drain pipeline is connected into the drain on trunk floor (near to amplifier). I had mine unhooked until i found some water in a trunk compartment.

I sent the personal message to you couple days ago. If you haven't gotten it , please send me an email at stas81@inbox.lv .

Hi,
I need one too.
My 92' Nak 12-cd changer doesn't work well when road condition is worse than perfect.
I had ERR message coming up on half of CDs, however I found the cause. Changer's CD drive, when starting to spin the CD, just slipped . It wouldn't allow CD to spin fast enough.
I just put some paint drops on CD drive shaft, it solved the problem. CD changer reads all of my discs but works very poorly at bumpy roads.

Nice thread Jibby!
I have same year , same colour SC400 as you do. I bought the car while working in NY. I have left US 3 years ago but the car is still with me in Europe!
150k miles now. no big problems with it. However there are couple things replaced this year - radiator and water pump due to leaks.
I thought of installing some aftermarket parts and first things pop im my mind are Dragon Converter and NOS.
Would you suggest to start with NOS?
Anyone knows what is HP gain at flywheel or wheels?

Thanks for an advice.
After i bought my car in NJ and took it over to Europe (Latvia) i found out it is not too easy to find parts as model was never exported to EU.
Fortunately there are many internet stores in US that would ship parts overseas!

Hi,
Just to share the experience.
My SC400 has 160k miles. Starting from 130k miles radiator(top part) have been developed leakages. It has been fixed several times but now it is time to get a new one.
Buying aftermarket one due to high price of OEM. 150$ vs 450$
Best regards,

I reckon SC400 with original OZ wheel would look better if I'd use spacers. I was going to find ones but the question how thick could be spacers as bolts on which wheel sits doesn't seem very long to accomodate more than 30mm spacers.
Any suggestions?

I replaced rear and fronts with Infinity Reference Series "4 2-way speakers. Price for couple of speakers runs around 70 USD. Toyota/Lexus dealership sell Naks for about 300USD per pair.
Infinity is definitely not bad. Not much better compared to 10 year old Nakamichi and not worse as well.

The reason i am brake torquing is that car is quite slow off the line 0-20mph as engine is not at best efficiency at low rpms.

I looked under a car today and found out that oxygen sensor takes probe after emmision passes converters.
After removal of converters shall the engine work the same?
Also one mechanic told me that i wouln't pass emmision test due to high CO without converters. Is it true?
-
Oh really?
You've got automatic as well?
Thanks for advise. I shall spin it up to 4-5rpms then.
There was common opinion about this damagin tranny.
What would other club members elaborate on this?

I would replace air/fuel filters, brake fluid and possibly transmission fluid.
I replaced spark plugs on my previous cars but never noticed a change. Plugs last forever is engines
is generally in good shape.

Hi ,
Looking for general advice.
Do you guys ever practice "power braking" (pressing accelerator and brakes simultaneously) in order to engage wheelspin prior for off line acceleration?
I tried but very slightly - reached 2000 rpm with sligthly pressed brakes (just to keep car off from starting)
I noticed rear wheels started spining. I didn't experiment further as i am afraid to damage my beloved car.
Any comments on this?
Can i ruin torque converter or automatic gearbox by doing that?

Hi guys,
I am happy owner of 93' SC 400. I think as car is 13 years old now catalytic converters are toasted already. Other than increasing pressure in exchaust system they don't do anything.
Do you think it is good idea to remove 'em ? Shall it give some little extra power?
If you do not recommend that, please expain why.

Most of common problems (not serious ones in my opinion) are listed in Lexus FAQ at www.intellexual.net
other than that I cannot mention any common problem with these cars.

Hi There,
I had a problem with 12 CD Nakamichi changer on my SC400 '93.
It would display ERROR on half of my CDs...with no particular pattern i could notice.
After detaching tha plastic cover of CD i looked how it worked. I notice that cd driver would just
slip and wouldn't rotate some of CDs.
I tried to stick some little pieces of duct tape close to the center of CDs. And it worked fine after that!!!
Problem was solved so easily.
The permanent fix of problem requires the friction increase of cd-driver surface. I just touched it up
with some kind of paint. It works now.
My friend did the same and it helped as well.
Although after tinkering with changer, shock protection would not work well.
Any suggestion how to restore shock and vibration protection of changer???
Best regards,

Driveshaft Maintenance
in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Posted
Hi, I've got about 175'000 miles on my '92SC 400. It runs very well , although other than fluid and oil changes nothing have been done to it during last 50'000.
I think driveshaft or tranny is getting slightly louder.
Anyone heard of any maintenance or part changes to be done for high mileage SC? Any driveshaft bearings to be replaced yet?
