  1. I have a 2000 Lexus RX 300 with over 200k milage on it and I was just told by a Lexus dealership that both of the Transmission Cooler Lines are rusted. Is this typical for a vehicle that old? I live around the Boston area and with all the salt on the ground during the winter months, I figured that this must be something caused by that. Anyway - I'm trying to get an idea of what this will cost. The dealership quoted me over $425.00, is that about right? I was thinking of just going to my local garage guy down the street.

  2. I changed the oil and filter on my 05 RX330 today and I was cleaning the engine compartment. I noticed that the metal portion of the transmission cooler hoses closest to the bottom of the radiator have a coating on them which almost looks like corrosion. The pan under the front end of the car protects these hoses and the bottom of the radiator but they are still suseptable to get road salt and snow in there. Has anyone else noticed this? The film on the metal looks like the type of coating that you see on an aluminum chair when it is left outside.

Did u ever get this fixed and how much did it cost? I was at a Lexus dealership earlier this week and they quoted me over $400 to replace 2 of the cooler lines. Not sure if that is all the lines the vehicle has, that's just what they pointed out since they are rusted.

  3. I have a '92 SC300 and I just came across a small issue (but an issue none the less) regarding the driver's side door. It seems to lagging in the downward location ever so slightly. Because when I close the door from the inside or out, the latch on the door itself is hitting where it should be closing to the small "u-shaped" bar that is actually on the right-side body of the door closing - if that makes sense. I'm assuming there just needs to be an adjustment to the bolts. Probably loosening them up, setting the door up a little and then tightening the bolts. has anyone ever did this? Is it a two person job? Can a jack be used to lift the door up ever so easily to then adjust the setting?

    Thanks!

  4. I have seen a couple of threads about cleaning out headlights on our cars , pretty much all that involve , removing them, baking in an oven, taking apart, cleaning, buffing , putting them back together, and reinstalling them. WAY TOO MUCH DARN WORK to clean some lenses.

I have a body shop along with all else at my shop , so for giggles i decided ( BY HAND) to take some 3M PERFECT-IT 2 and some meguires cleaner/wax and give it a go.

All i did ( BY HAND ) was get after it ( WHILE STILL ON THE CAR) with the 3m perfect-it 2 two times and then apply the meguires and I SWEAR IT LOOKS LIKE BRAND NEW!!!!! NO BUFFER AT ALL! I did BOTH headlights AND the lower turn/drive lamps in less than 30 minutes! Im going to hit it with the buffer tuesday just for that BLING effect but it really doesnt need it at all! The 3m is an AWESOME compound, only costs about 20.00 for a bottle (which will probably last you for a couple of years!) Plus you could use it for other things on the car i.e. scratches.

I couldnt see the headlight projector they were so oxidized! Now they look like Brand new! And i MEAN brand new! And to think i ALOMST spent over 300.00 last night on ebay for a new pair!

Ill post some pics tonight when i get home , somebody try it and tell me if it isnt worth the MERE 30 MINUTES to do it.

see ya guys , Joe P.

    Joe:

Did u have any water or condensation in either headlight fixture?

I have a '92 SC300 and this condensation is driving me crazy.

But I like your suggestion to clean out the foggyness - I have that as well.

  5. You are lucky. We are also 2nd owners. My wife and I own an RX300 '00 and during a routine oil chg it was brought to our attention that the rear main seal was leaking. A whopping $1800+ to fix. I called the customer service center at Lexus in CA, and I'm still waiting to hear back. We were both in shock and very disappointed when the service person told us about the seal. What kind of reliability trait is that, especially if @ 70k it would have fell under the warranty.
