  1. I am not sure what you are talking about as I had a 4runner and the GX has better acceleartion

then the 4runner (I had a 2000 4runner Limited )... I had two GXs 03 and 06 and 03 actually had better acceleartion then the 06 which has more HP... well perhaps they are exactly the same. That also might be due to transmission not yet fully getting used to my driving... all in all the GX is quite fast... make sure you use Premium Gas... you want acceleartion get a TRD Supercharger. 0-60 in 7 secs...

The first time really had the GX out on a 2 lane road where passing power

is important. The 05 4 Runner 2WD had allot more pep.

Oh the GX will eventually get going but its gradual. That all wheel drive

really eats up the power. To bad cant be a select 4WD. If had spent

enough time behind the wheel of one, this would have been the deal

breaker. I would have gotten another 4 Runner 2WD. Even my larger

Avalanche has more kickdown to move on around.

  2. It costs around $600 actually (which is a huge OVERPRICE) and you should not have to send in anything... what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Add video input to a NON-RSES vehicle? if that is the case you need to get a composite (or component ) to RGB converter and splice into your factory harness which can be accomplished for under $200... (something like http://cgi.ebay.com/Audio-Authority-9A65-C...1QQcmdZViewItem )

people have done it... there is a very good discussion on this on 4runner forums actually... there is also Vaistech.com but their products are being redisgned and won't be available for a wee bit longer... ask around the forums, people have done that... if you have RSES then you already have the extra video input in your center console....

as far as how to hook something like that up you will need to splice into the cable going from the NAV system to the displya unit (its easily accessible by the NAV under passanger seat) and then right a switch that will switch RGB video from NAV to the RGB Video coming from the COMPONENT-TO_RGB Converter.. its a metter of wiring a relay/switch and a bunch of wires coming from NAV and the converter... I will find the link from 4runner forums as people have wired that w/o a problem.

I didnt find any refs for this, but was told by the local audio shop it would work. It costs 1k. They pull your board and send it to the company. one a/v input.

  3. Hey Pete,

Yeah you sent me the ebay links to everything before so I still hae your address in my email account... I will shoot you a message since I was going to have you send me the wiring diagrams... as far as factory harness its not that difficult actually if you already have RSES to tap into the Composite Video coming from the dvd player (two wires) and then run it into a VIDEO SPLITTER/AMP

    thanks

Hey all... several GS onwers have successfully added DVD Changer (or Player) to their vehicles. As I understand it 05+ vehicles come either prewired (or DVD ready if you have the harness) for the Players/Changer. I was wondering if anyone added a DVD changer/player to their car and where they got the harness (or modified it).

Also, I know some people added headrest monitors to their RSES vehicles I was curious what wires got tapped for audio/video and on-power.

Also if anyone has a link to a good source of connectors (ie plugs that can work with factory wiring) please let me know since this would make many DIY projects much easier.

    Please!! Anyone??

If you going to buy after market equipments I suggest you stay away from the factory wiring. It a pain in the !Removed! trying to hack the factory harness.

I have a procedure for an aftermarket DVD, sunvisor and headrest monitor installation if youre interested.

I have a DVD player in the glove box, 8" Right side sunvisor and four 8" monitor in headrest.

here are some picture of my GX. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2195868

the procudure is step by step, where to run wire, which wire to tap into. also with pictures. It about 20MB words files. Email me and I sent it to you. peter_gx470@yahoo.com

  4. SK allow me to disagree with you here... ERIX, GX470 has projector headlights and they work fine (if not better) for having HID bulbs in there. That being said it seems that the bulbs in the kit you have are poorly rebased and their beam pattern is not concetrated properly. You are getting the shadow of the bulb cap in the housing. Why? Probably due to the wrong bulb length being inside the housing (poorly focused beam). Return your HID set... get a decent set from of Philips-based kit... or talk to steillenmaxima98 on ebay... etc.

    From other what?

For the last time Erix you do not have a projector made for HID's.

  5. Erix,

Well, my friend you did not listen :) the lights don't look like 6000k from the pics at all... as far as the dark spot yes its there due to the projector housing... that's why the fog lights are there.... as far as the pattenr it looks odd, that probably to a poorly rebased bulb hence the light pattern. As far as Chinese ballasts, trust me they are crap, as one of mine just burned out after 1 month of use!!! And in addition to that the bulbs FAIL to work with my Philips Ballasts :( hence lesson learned... btw: stillenmaxima98 on ebay sells decent bulbs, give him a holler otherwise I have a guy who has REAL Ultionon HIDs from Philips with slim ballasts... he is n California, and his kits are better priced then anywhere else (same as Xenondepot). but I would leave the bulbs alone if you are happy with outoput.

I just played around it, still no luck, I took another pic , have a look. is that ok for the stock bulb?

I tried to adjust the beam height, the ugly focus still there, there is no way to pull the bulb base out a little bit or push it in. it is very firm.

yes, the HId bulb's filament is backward a little bit than the stock one. about 2 mm ,

I wonder, if I buy a philips kit, maybe still like this?

  6. Antonio,

Just some pointers on this... as far as the Bluetooth speed sensor its that purple wire on the second from the left (looking from behind) connector not on the main plug that's the Nav speed sensor wire... as far as removing the side wooden panels... remove the center console panels first (driver side is easier use a flat headed screwdriver) then PULL the wooden panels from the bottom UPand OUT it will take some force so you ahve to be FIRM yet gentle... just keep the direction steady (no side to side wiggling) as those piece are around $700 each... there is a special TAB on the bottom that can be used for taking them out... again just pull from the bottom up and out... alternatively you can help by wedging something from the top of the panel (not to pull from top but just to help it separate a bit for even force..

Also, don't forget to wear a diaper :) as I was scared &&&&less the first time I did it, almost soiled my pants : :cries:

Now I just have to pull the "Speed" wire out of the connector on the back of the Multi-Display Unit this weekend so that the bluetooth capability is not crippled when the car is in motion and I've only got that stupid seat position memory button that doesn't work when the car is out of Park to fix.

    Daryl,

Did you disconnect the speed wire? If so, how long did it take?

Are the wood panels difficult to remove?

    Antonio.

  7. have you actually done that? My concern is moisture of course. The other course of action would be to mount the ballast to the foglight enclosure itself. I do have the ballast holders, that's not an issue. Even on the body are there decent mounting holes to use. I am considering swapping the ballasts to the Ultinon Slimlines with sep. igniters since the harness is longer and the ballast is much easier to mount due to size. Aain if you have a specific location in mind let me know.

    Thanks

They sell ballast mounts which are basically an X with 4 screw hole at its ends which can be mounted to the underside of the body close to the lights.

  8. I have Phillips ballasts (older thicker) and the sad part is the bulb connector is very short. Though I have another set of ballasts (similar to McCullouch in size ) that are smaller with a slightly longer connector that I can take off of the low beams and use on fogs. Again, the issue is mounting position since it has to reach the fog AND fit. There is a lip in front of the battery but to access that I need to either take the bumper off or somehow snake it from under the car since the tie wrap is a hard reach.

WHat kind of ballasts do you have?

  9. Just make sure you are stopped and parked. You SHOULD be able to add the phonebook entries to the 1-touch dial.. also was your phone PAIRED when you were trying to add entries... the system is far from perfect and is plagues with problems so don't be surprised.

I have a Verizon Motorola Razr and used my PDA to transfer my phonebook to my car. The problem I have is that the entries show up but I am unable to select one to call or to add to the 1 touch list. The entries are there but greyed out as opposed to being bold as they are when active.

    Any ideas.

    Tom

  10. Well you asked for advice yet you have already made up your mind and don't really want to listen. Regardless, XD HAS a HARNESS and HAS an extra relay so reread the posts, some people like Capirato bought from other sources and did not use the long harness with relay and battery hookup making it a true plug-play kit literally (couple of connections). I mean do as you wish, I have had no problems with any other kit either, if you want to spend the extra money be my guest. Again, just so you know, EVERYONE uses the same D2S Philips bulbs they are simply rebased. MANY other outlets sell Philips Ballast with their kits, and many people have installed OTHER ballasts on their Lexus. Again XD does have A relay and you DO have to run a separate wire to the battery from the relay and then ground 2 wires (one for each ballast) to the car as well as run a harness to your factory harness. (as opposed to connecting 1 plug on each side to the factory harness and then another plug on each side to the bulb, on other kits).

    Peace

thanks for the great info !

the reason why I was asking the DRL model. is becoz of this topic

so just wanna make sure they are really 4157 before place order.

as for HID, how long have your bulbs been lasting till now?

and the harness and relays, OMG, I just changed a car battery by myself, so basically, I know nothing about anything on cars. after reading so many threads, I think I'd better buy from XD even though they charge $200 more, but if I am not wrong, I remmeber there's a topic on this , the conclussion is , no need to buy extra harness and relays if you buy Philips HID. I think I will go with XD.

  11. Well here is the info for you:

the front turn signal is 4157 and so should be the DRL. The only bulbs used in the car are 4157 7440/7443 and 198s (and of course the dome lights, etc.).

As far as HIDs are concerned I happen to wholehartedly agree that XD is overpriced, thoug he sells excellent ballasts (I am not sure about the bulbs since I believe ALL bulbs start out as Phillips D2s and are the rebased its the quality of rebasing that matters). I personally have a Chinese made ballast kit and it works fine. You can also try:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-6000K-H...23042QQtcZphoto

I have gotten bulbs from him (literally since he is in the area) and they are fine.... make an offer

    or even:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Xenon-HID-Conversion-K...0QQcmdZViewItem

you can't beat $165 and he has excellent feedback I shot him some emails he replies quickly...

Also as was said above you CAN piece a kit together using PHILIPS ballasts. Its NOT neccessary to have a relay type harness, if you actually look into Lexus wiring diagrams the Lights are turned on via a relay anyway, but regardless you can always make such a harness VERY cheaply (around $5 relays cost .99 on ebay you just need a 40 or 30 amp SPST or SPDT - just dont use the extra contact, relay)... or buy the harness from XD..... there are even connectors now that will convert a D2S connector on a ballast to an AMP connector for the bulbs that the above guys sell (I personally just do my own connector conversions).

    THanks

  12. Dave,

I did not mean INSIDE the enclosure but OUTSIDE of it.... there is a plug that connects to the enclosure on the H3 connector is on the inside.

    thanks

    Hey all,

Anyone know the exact size/name of the plug that is used to connect the fog light wires to the enclosure. I need its Male counterpart. That is, same thing as on the enclosure however in a plug form (ie so that wires can be connecoted to it). I am sure it exists I just need to know what size/connector type it is.

    Thanks

Not sure about it, but isn't that called H3 connector?

  14. Sadly Toyota windishields happen to be the thinnest of them all and are prone to cracking... my first GX had a small crack from a rock on a highway that grew quickly and I had to replace the windshield at a considerable cost (given its not covered by the warranty)... so don't be surprised that Lexus windshields crack easily... Personally I would not go offroading on a GX, maybe an older 4runner...

How did the windshield crack? Torsional stress? Rock?

    Regards

  15. David,

I wrote you a huge message but it bounced from the address you gave me:

    <Davidlamny@yahoo.com>:

    hmm odd

Hey Robizon! I couldn't pm right now, need 20 posts first. so, E-mail me please. Davidlamny@yahoo.com

about the cable part I found it. and the total is over 1500 all together. Do you know any place else that can do cheaper?

Foglight, there are one screw and one clip holding the foglight. you will be able to take it out...

send me a e-mail, then we will go throught...

  16. Hey David,

what cable it is I don't know... email DARRYL at lexus-parts.com and he will find the part number for you (that is where I got the DVD part numbers, pricing, etc..)

I don't have your email address and your PM is not working, PM it to me, so I am also posting below, PM me with answers.

    Also,

For the fog lights the ONE screw is holding the enclosure to the car (on the side) or is there also a pin? I am gonig to install FOG HIDs (which btw is easily done w/o drilling holes but by simple removing the connector then using the vent hole)...

also, did you get your bullbar? as far as the dvd i think its a 12 pin cable not sure, but its not there in non-rses cars that is the slot on the back of the multi-control unit is empty...

    thanks

BTW: so you have XenonDepot lows and fogs? what color temp? I have 8000k lows and will have 4300k fogs... I am using his ballasts for the fogs but will be using different bulbs.

    David the part number is:

    8627260040

Thank to Robinzon!! And do you have the diagram of that?

One question, what kind of cable do i need to connect the DVD player to Navigation(6 Pin or 12 Pin)??

  17. Hey all,

I recently stumbled onto this, and though this is in the Repair Manual, finally here is a concise all in one diagram of the RGB wires in the factory harness that can be tapped to add an External DVD/Playstation/etc. to your factory front screen display (mostly useful for non-RSES vehicles with Nav). This diagram is courtesy of PAC which manufactures a VERY handy VCI-X Composite (ie RCA type video jack) to RGB converter with switch... (do a search on ebay for VCI-X). THough their adapter are a bit expensive... this will work with any other hookup though.... the PIN number have the R. G, B, SYNC etc written next to them so that you can figure out what's what and the wire colors are listed for all LEXUS vehicles.

  18. Thanks for the quick responses, so I guess its not THAT scary :) I intend to install HID fogs shortly, the lows are installed but I did not remove the battery yet I WILL have to this time to reposition the ballasts and install the complete relay. I don't see why the windows need recalibration does that have to do with the automatic obstruction avoidance in the windows? as far as mirrors and windows I guess when you reconnect the battery I assume they remain where you last left them so that you can simply hit SET + M1?

thanks for the info. BTW: did you guys simply screw the HOT wire off the HID harness to the exisiting screw on the factory clamp? I think I still have a GOLD battery contact somwhere that I did not use for an audio install and I was thinking of maybe using that..

I removed my battery for HID installation and had to reset power seats, mirrors, and windows.

The radio station presets and bluetooth phone book entries were not affected.

  19. Daryl, just so you know there are TWO Violet/Red wires... I believe the one you are referring to is the DVD speed sensor for RSES, just so you know BLUETOOTH has a SEPARATE Speed sensor wire (same color but its the smaller of the molex connectors). I don't have the 06 wiring diagrams (just the 04) hence I don't remember the exact connector, and yes you can take the individual pins out of Molex connectors if you press on the white tab inside the pin well.

I agree. I'm willing to pay the $100 so that I don't have to hit the "I Agree" button like a trained monkey for the rest of the time I own the car. I don't think it is possible to get rid of this without something like what Costaltech offers. However, I'm happy to save $50 and just cut the Violet and Red wire myself. I actually think you should be able to pull the pin from the connector and wrap it in electrical tape. This would make it easier to put the system back into it's "factory config" if needed.

If you want to see how to get access to the wire, check out my web page that describes how to install the Vaistech iPod integration unit. Look at steps 18 and 19. In step 18 you can see the back of the Multi-Display. The connector you're going after is the one in left of the picture (center of the Multi-Display). In step 19, you can see the Violet and Red wire. It is now plugged into the Vaistech connector and has been turned over.

    http://www.emba42.com/lexus/

Its the Prius version (05 I believe) its really the only one they have... as far as bluetooth, as people misunderstand, they do sell a BLUETOOTH unit for $149 and what that does it simply enables use to DIAL DIGITS while driving (that is if you don't have bluetooth it won't enable it for you, and if you DO have it it will not disable it). Baiscally its another override similar to the NAV but just for Bluetooth Phone dialing... the equivalent of that would be cutting a Purple/White wire on the second from left (loooking from the back) connector on the Nav system (that being the speed sensor to the phone dialer).

I have an '06 and was wondering:

Which one of the coastaltech units works with the GX? Is it the Highlander or Prius unit? Also, is there something else I need so that my bluetooth will continue to work with their NAV enhancement?
