Just received the Navigation 10.1 DVD from SUPERSTITION SPRINGS LEXUS PARTS on Ebay for $199, shipping free. The upgrade from ver.4.0 to 10.1 installation was very quick and works flawlessly. If anyone wants to know the step by step, let me know. Even a caveman can do it.
Gave SUPERSTITION SPRINGS LEXUS PARTS outstanding feedback for the quick and efficient delivery.

What are the steps involved for installation in an 06 RX400H?

And you get voice dial to work on the 06 400H, through the car system, how?
The Vaistech SLI I have had for a few years shows all ipod info all the time, (on the radio screen) as well as providing an aux input for my XM Radio( Not shown on the radio screen).
-
My, just purchased, 2006 RX 400H does not list any telephone commands on the Voice Command Help Screen, and attempting "dial by name" or "dial by number" results is, mostly, POI interpretations. All the other voice command functions are present and all the ones I have tried have worked ( with some misunderstood commands, for some comic relief). I searched many threads about phone problems, but none of those solutions have worked. I don't have an edit contact screen ( or at least haven't been able to find it) as one thread suggested.
Is there a way to update the firmware for the NAV and not just the map database (version 4.2 on the car)?
TIA for any help or insights
Jay
Hi, I too just purchased the same car. I had my dealer install the iphone so I don't know how to do it, but you might want to have the dealer/seller set that up for you? They wized through the screens so I never would have figured it out. But I do notice the voice commands are way off. Saying "Auto A/C on" comes back with "Turning audio system on."
Are you saying that if you hit the cars phone button, you have voice dial with your Iphone?

Hi all. I am a newbie to this forum and have just purchased a 2006 RX 400h for my wife. It is a beautiful vehicle and was lovingly cared for by retired genleman who suddenly passed away. I purchased it from his daughter and all she new about the Lexus was that he loved it.
As to my problem, he was a very progressive 72 year old and had a MP3 hookup hardwired into the audio system so he could use his ipod. Unfortunately the receipt for this work is not in the extensive service records which came with the vehicle so I do not know who to contact to tell me:
How the heck do I use it!!
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Scott
Did you plug in your i-pod and push disc to see if it works?

Good luck getting most of them to work. It's a bit like talking to an oak tree.
Tom
"Remember that the mighty Oak was was once a nut like you"
I have always found voice command, entertaining!!

Remember you will loose the override with the 7 disc!!

Hi bob. A quick head up. If you cut a speed sensor wire, be very carefull. The speed sensor acts to stop the vehicle from over reving in the event there's a loss of traction. The HSD can be damaged in the event where there's an over-rev because the sensor normally causes the ICE to shut down to prevent damage. With the sensor cut, your warranty will be voided if/when that's the cause of HSD damage. The lockpick NAV over-ride lets you into destination NAV inputs (and bluetooth dialing off the mfd) without the risk of accidently smoking your HSD.
I'm not sure this is entirely true, if you cut the top Blue VSS wire, it was my understanding that it only affected the bluetooth screen. The only change I've noted over the last several years is that the ideogram wheels don't turn. VSC worked perfectly for several very slippery hrs, this past winter.
My suggestion is if you cut the wire, put in a switch, just in case!
I've also noted that my Vais SLI update did not remove the "I agree screen". It may be because of the cut VSS wire or I may just need to reset the unit.
If anyone else has noted this change, please let me know before I remove panels to reset the SLI.

Please help....
I just got my brand new RX 400h (which i must say is a fantastic car) with all the nav system, and the preinstalled ipod connection. On the website it says that i can control, from the console, the artist, song title etc.
All that mine shows is 6 round icons on the nav screen numbered 1 to 6, without any text. How do i get it to display song name and artist (at least)?
I dont know what is the model that was installed, but i suppose its the standard one which they are shipping out with the rx400h....
please help me......
Is the i-pod music coming through at all & info not showing up?
if not push disc button again and see if it works and i-pod shows up!
Otherwise check with the installer on how to work!
My Vais unit works just fine!

I had an inverter wiring problem on my 06, last year. The inverter was replaced twice before they found out there was a short in the harmess, which, once replaced, fixed the problem. Guys flew in from Japan to check out the problem!
-
Mine does it over speed bumps on my street, especially in the rain. I think it's related to the brake regeneration cycle & ICE. Dealer had no comment!
-
Just seeing if it will actually say the street names. If not, I am not going to waste my money.
Thanks for the look !
Nope, Buy a Nuvi if you want nice features like that!

If the navigation is the same as the one in my '06 GS300, open the glovebox and look at the top right corner. Do you see a dvd drive slot?
Tape Menu, and then you will see a button appear that says Map DVD. Press that button, and then you will see a choice to eject said dvd. Insert the new dvd and sit back and enjoy as the update commences.
Contact me if you have any more questions or need more info:

The Nav unit is located in the back under area near spare tire. Do a search.

Let me get this straight, for $250 I can update my 06H Nav with new software that will disable my override while in motion, not really update the maps in my region and provide no other important improvements! What a winner!
I believe, for the money, I'll just pick up a garmin with, voice recognition, text to speech, traffic updates, i-pod and bluetooth voice dial.
Our Garmin's ok for geocaching (its a game ... pretty fun), but those too, can be a major rip off. When it comes to upgrades? Our garmin ... can get an update that's 2 years newer than what you have, for HUNDREDS, only to find out your 5 year old community, with 10's of thousands of homes, are STILL not yet incorporated into the new edition. (shaking head)
No guarantee that this won't happen for your $250 Lexus upgrade.....

Does the DVD upgrade disable the override that allows changing info while in motion?

If they don't let you do it, go to the store of your provider and have a rep go out to the car or borrow their phone to try. I did that with my wifes Sprint Katana and my old Samsung.

larrytrk, my filter is very clean white. Do you think Lexus replaced it with a non charcoal filter? I've had my 400h for two years/21K miles so for it to be this clean I figured that it had been replaced especially after reading this post from skyfish400h I thought it was going to be frightening when I went to pull my filter out...but as I said, it was and is very white. Rey
? Check with parts dept., see what filters they use. Check receipt for part number of filter and ask.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHARCOAL-AC...2QQcmdZViewItem
I think this may be optional, according to dealer?
A search reveals both types of filters being offered, mine happened to be charcoal as OEM.
-
If you have more than 10K on your RX and you have not looked at your cabin air filter yet... do it now.
Mine is at 30K and so the manual says to replace it. I waved off the dealer since this is an easy thing for anyone to tackle. I picked up my $21 NAPA filter and pulled out the old one, right there at the parts store...
There are no words to discribe it.
Just trust me, if you haven't doen it yet, at least take it out and shake the leaves off of it, but if its black then you will need to replace it, vacuuming will not help.
Here is how to access the filter:
The OEM filter has charcoal imbeded in it which makes it black, Lexus replacements are therefore more expensive as the aftermarket filters lack this.
You can vacuum and wash the filter, since it is plastic and reuse, however I don't know if the charcoal will still be active.
You can check this info if you like. I replaced with a toyota filter, Non charcoal and will replace with the washed filter next time!

After demo’ing several ’06 and ’07 RX-400Hs we bought a “Taste of Lexus” 2006 demo car with 300 miles on it, full original warranty, Mark-Levinson audio, premium plus, NAV, rear enertainment system, etc.
We were shocked to find when we took it home that the Mark-Levinson stereo had *no* support for MP3/WMA CDs!!!
We recall that all the various demo cars we had driven supported this and even said so on the front panel of M-L head unit in the dash.
Our dealer (Lexus of Stevens Creek) offered to make it up to us by adding the VaisTech iPod adapter for free. We got that going and then found that the VaisTech iPod adapter *only* displays the CD TEXT on the 1/2 “ LCD of the CD changer in the dash … *not* on the full color NAV screen!!! Impossile/dangerous to see while driving and *not* the touch screen, color NAV viewing capability.
This dealer's tech rep thought they had dip switches mis-set on the iPod adapter installation. WRONG!!!
It turns out that this ’06 RX-400H does *not* have the AUDIO button in the dash along with MAP/DEST/INFO, buttons, etc. Therefore this unit cannot receive CD TEXT into the NAV screen.
So we are stuck with tiny CD TEXT scrolling in back lit mode about 8 -12 inches below the beautiful NAV screen. DIfficult to see, difficult to use.
We have had this car for almost 10 days now and have been haggling with the Stevens Creek Lexus management about returning this car to get an ’07 that supports AUDIO touch screen on the NAV screen and MP3/WMA on the CD changer.
QUESTION: Does anyone with an ’06 RX-400H have the AUDIO touch screen capability on their NAV screen and support for MP3/WMA in their Mark-Levinson CD changer? We get different answers depending upon which tech rep we speak with. Some believe that our car was early production run and did not get this feature, while later ’06 production units may have.
Anyone have an opinion or some data?
THANKS.

No Nav screen for Audio on 06's that I know of. Not so sure of same on 07's, either. I put in Vaistech i-pod and love it, only way you can go.

whoa whoa whoa back to the original post. 120K miles and still on original brake pads? LOL that has to be a record.
I never got more than 46K on my brake pads on my 2000 RX300 AWD and I thought that was pretty good. 120K sounds too good to be true!
I do however expect at least 60K on my 06 RX400H AWD, we will see!

Thanks for the replies..I am now straight on the "I Agree" vs the Nav/Bluetooth workaround. Further cruising of the forums and the internet took me to a place that sells a gadget called "Lockpick". There is no description on what it is specifically, but it says it will eliminate the "I Agree" screen and the need to input the workaround for the Nav/Bluetooth limitations. They also have a gadget that will allow connection of an iPod to the sound system..and be controlled, displayed thru the Nav screen, including photos and movies...might be worth an e-mail to them to get a clearer description of what the gadgets actually are.
The tire info was also appreciated. I've had Michelins on my wife's Camry. They replaced Bridgstones, which I thought rode like steel wheels, way too harsh, even at the factory recommended inflation rates. The Michelins were a softer ride, but lasted over 40K miles. I do like the Goodyears on my 4Runner, but that's a completely different scenario.
Bob
The available i-pod connections will not show through the Nav. screen. They go through the radio LCD display.
Easiest Bluetooth workaround is cutting the Baby Blue wire to the nav.(Speed sensor) as shown in previous posts. Allows full usage of Bluetooth at any speed. Only disadvantage is the ioiogram wheels do not turn!
I agree screen is not worth worrying about! IMHO, unless you get full Nav use at speed, without setting overide.

Have it on my Porsche, should have put it on my RX400H. Front ends are very easily marked by stones and bugs. Had a removeable bra for my RX300. More of a pain to use, the Clear Bra is a good way to go!!

My $200 Garmin, with voice commands, in my Saab, was set to answer to GARMIN, works for my wife, for me it answers to HERMAN.
I refuse to upgrade my V6.1 and loose on the fly changes, just on the chance a few new streets may show up.
