  1. the canister on a 99 es is under the rear axle. if you get under the car and take a flashlight you will see it. it is about the size of a cereal box, just thicker. to gain better access to it, you can disconnect the exhaust from the rubber hangers.

there really isnt much to look at on it 'cept a black box and a couple hoses.

if you are getting the code for the box, you are covered under the warranty up to certain mileage. i am not sure what mileage but i have a 99 so mine was not covered

  2. how much were the parts and from where? any other recommendations?

i have a 2000 es and have one bad rear strut (weeping), but some noise, mainly up front.

i figure i need upper bearing mounts and should probably do 4 struts. 126k mi.

there's a balance somewhere between a great price and rolling around on the ground for a few hours.

maybe it's worth it, maybe not depends on the individual.

also a sense of accomplishment if you do it. i don't think it's that difficult, but do i wanna do it?

if i can save a few hundred, maybe that's cash spent elsewhere.

    thanks-

from www.ajusa.com the 4 struts and strut mounts(including bearings) shipped were $500

  3. Hello,

I just bough 2 sets of KYB GR-2 to put on my 2000 ES300 and a local shop quoted me $475 for installation not including an alignment. I think thats pretty ridiculous. I could see maybe $250 with an alignment. For that price I should just do it myself at the local DIY shop that has all the necessary tools. Just looking for some input. Thanks.

    dude, do it yourself.

rent the spring compressor tool from autozone, it is free, well, $40 deposit and then you get it back. i got the one that compresses from the outside not the inside.

just remember what position the strut mount and bracket come off, so they are reinstalled correctly, and do one side at a time.

you may want to replace the strut mounts at the same time also, it is just easier.

make sure you have a long breaker bar for the strut bolts

  4. bought my 99 es 3 years ago for $12,000 from a dealer, 70,000 miles. they replaced a maf sensor, and rf strut mount.

i replaced the tires and had an alignment.

w/in the past year i have replaced the

    alternator $175

    all belts and battery $650

new tires, trans flush alignment $550

    struts/strut mounts all 4 corners $500

    charcoal canister $230

    a/f sensor $170

    rear sway bar links $125

new rotors and pads all around $300

    plugs $50

    plus all normal maint.

so since the beginning of the year i have spent $2700 in repairs. this !Removed! is mine til 250k.

i guess for how much i spent on the initial purchase and what i have repaired i am good til them except tires and new pads somewhere in the future.

now a speed sensor is bad, but i have no idea which one :chairshot:

  5. I have a 94 es300 55,000 miles on it. No codes are coming up Cars runs great I have 2 questions.

    1. Last night the Temp. here got down to 45 Deg. when I started the car I assumed it would idle high for a period of time then reduce to normal. What should the cold start up idle be? It didn't idle any higher than it normally does.

    2. The car would not shift into overdrive on the way to work. It is a 15 mile drive on the interstate at 70 miles per hour. On the way home no issue. I would certainly think some where along the way to work it would have warmed up enough to shirt to overdrive. This is the second time this has happened in the last week.

i would start with the cold start sensor 1st
