I know nothing about Lexus cars, I've been a consumer of products from the other side of the pond.

However, I'm in the midst of looking for a new luxobarge and stumbled across a really good deal on an 06 LS430. To convince me that I should get this over an XJ8 I wanted to ask you folks in the know a few questions:

What can you tell me about the engine?

Any weak points? What about routine maint? Does this thing have a t-belt or chain?

I assume the transmission (6 speed?) is solid given the lineage of Toyota?

Is there anyway to disable the steering wheel from retracting everytime you stop? Albeit cool I'm looking for a long lasting relationship with a car and it has been my experience that such electro doohickeys break, and I'd hate for it to give up in the retracted position..... what about all the electrics in this vehicle? What is the life expectancy?

What other bits of information have you on this car? Why should I consider it?

(I noticed that you had a really nice buyer's guide for the LS400, but I didn't see one for the 430, if there is one please direct me.)

I don't know what you consider "cheap" but Parts.com has the rear bumper molding, part number 52751-50020, for $110.20.

i went to my local auto body paint store and got a roll, and it was enough for the whole car.mine was faded and when i replaced, my ls looked new again. what little wonders could do. Mine is also a 2000 platinum series(silveron blk)

Buy it or i will, Im right up the street. Whats the sellers # lol

THanks KillerFatty.. I replaced plugs about 4 months ago, but did not do wires or cap and rotor.. Wires are originals I think.. I hope that does the trick... 1st I will run OBD1 to see if any code is coming up... although nothing lights up on dash.

Totall yodd, i never heard of any gaskets going out on a v8 lexus, especially an engine gasket. Take it to someone who knows what there doing- chutch

What shape are your tires in?

I have a 96 LS and though the tires looked good, I had a major problem stopping and with skidding / sliding.

The Traction light was on a lot also.

After changing the tires these symptoms went away and the $1,000 bill was better spent on the tires then accident / fender-bender repair.

i have new good years, do i need to switch the battery? How do i reset the vsc? Can i take it to auto zone? Any info is appreciated and thanks ahjgta for your help.

I am taking the turns at 5mph on dry pavement by the way. A beeping noise is also heard while the vsc activates. This is annoying, Yet if i turn the vsc switch off and take a turn, nothing happends.It only happens when the vsc is on, Any insight and thoughts are real helpful guuys, thank you.

Please help, snow coming soon. I had a 90ls 8 years ago w/o tracion and it was fish tailing like a bat of hell.

i believe he knew of the title condition prior to purchase, right lextuned? If not, screw going to the dealership, call a lawyer and take him the disclosure statement that should be part of your paperwork indicating a clean title and no damage "to thier knowledge" to the car....and make them EAT it!

Honestly, I think you paid a little on the high side, but probably not by much, maybe $1,500.

For a rebuilt title he overpaid by a lot IMO.

In all fair honesty, it drives better then my co worker's 2000 ls400 with 40k, and he even has the air ride in his. I bought it from a private party, yet the test drive and records is what sold me. Every one told me not to buy it, yet for so low miles and the year i wanted also, it was also hard for me to find a solid color ls400, rather then the 2tone.I appreciate your input gents, btw, Im not a fan of the 430's in my opinion, im more of a fan of the 4.0l motor;)

i would go to a wrecking yard and just get a good used speaker from a 2006 ls430 speaker, ml system is the best of the best

Check your timing belt to see & make sure it has not snapped off, it will never even try to start, if timing belt is good check your compression on left and right bank

could be alternator, starter, or a disease.

Ebay would be your best bet.

yeah but some people are a little fishy on ebay regarding fitments and year changes. i need concrete info, but yet thanks for your input-chow

i just bought a 2000 silver/blk leather ls400 platinum series, 59k miles, 60k service done. all the goodies except nakimichi and navigation/air ride. excellent shape in and out, i paid 14k. downfall it has a rebuilt title. and no frame damage. No airbags were deployed also and all were intact after the accident. it got damaged in the rear quarter panel and the p.o fixed it. i personally am in love with this vehiacle. Yet did i get ripped off due to the title, please help? thanks

i have a 2000 ls400 platnimu series, and someone stole my shift knob. it is blk with maple and i have a platnimu series which its wood is different then other ls400 models. my question is will a 2004 rx330 maple shift knob fit on my 2000 ls400. Any input is deeply appreciated gents- chow

well hello there, I might be willing to sale my ls400. The reason why im so eager to keep is that i purchased it from a second pre ownerd owner whom just purchesed it from the lexus of tacoma dealer, which all there vehicles are pre owned. It has all the ls400 options that was offered including the 4700$ air sports suspension system. It has 122k miles and just had a 2500 major serivce inlcluding brakes done. owwwwww easy does it now.. Now since some of you have so much pride (from being in this chat room for years) which is not a good thing to live by due to causing arogance and ignorance. I state my opinions in general not aiming towards anyone, and thats anyone. Now if we shall have non maturity in this areana this shall not be accpeted. No pre judging here. Period Now the newer lexus 95-97 just went plain cheaper. No fogs, looks like a avaoln hello. plain jane ( my opinion before we get lil over our heads) you have the duals on the older years why did they bring them back in ls430 hmm. My point is fully loaded older ls400 really has much more craftsman ship than 95-97 years. I dont know but tell me . No im not a young one and some loser that drinks to get rid of probs or to have fake fun here. Can we all just get along.

SO youll send the 90 ls400 on the way to junk yard with bad air strut, cant cough up 400$ to replace one well this is a sign you shold be driving a 90 accord with all manual options, just because the lexus is affordable dont buy one if you cant afford to maintain so value of car is pointlesss towards your point. Correct meif Iam worng, just having the air sus and changing it to sport mode, and having the car lower and high speeds and better corninering come on . All sacarfice to dinky struts instead, this is a low ballers point shall i say i dont knowand again correct me if im worng

well why would it be a nightmare to fix when you can buy rebuilt ones with lefetime warranty for 400$ is this not worth i, hey its a high dollar car meant for spending high dollar. But for400 is not bad since its goes out every 10 years is this not worth it? let me know any other suggestions if i can . Thanks

Hello there guys, i have a 90 ls400 one owner fully loaded with the color i wanted maroon , deep burguny on the same leather, i jkus love them colors when waxed. Any how i have the air suspension now does it lower after a certain speed, whats the goods about them besides there expensive which i dont carejust love seeing all them buttons on the shifter console, whats the big diff bewtween them and factory springs > My apperication to all help. yeah im away from the car i havent touched it since just looked at it i dont have key yet but car hasnt been started for a year, just love that color combo the burgundy on burgundy and the fact its loaded with every possible option, heated, trac, naki, memory, air suspension, just loev the way itll look once i can get a hold of some facotry 98 chromes rims, anyhow thinkig ahead of myslef just wish for me the best that air sus is properly in place

Hello and good day, i have a 90 ls400 with 123k i purchased from a guy, the car hasnt been drivien for a year due to it ben in a very minor accident, anyhow i contacted the original owener and he said the car is flawness and he jsut spent 3k on the car in services and etc.. anyhow the car been sittin sicne oct04, well i bought it the thing is the car is sitting low on all 4 sides evenly but the car is sitting low and hasnt been started up since oct 04, now the dealer tells me jsut start the car up and the system will get back up. Is this true the dealer told me that the ls400 when they sit for a while they leak air. well i figure since the car is sitting evenly on all four sides that taht could be the prob i havent fired it up since, so help is aprreciated .
