I have 110k on my 98 gs. I am going to be having it alligned soon and im sure it will be needing ball joints. At least lower. Are the uppers something to consider changing I havent checked yet to verify but my dealer tells me they are built in the control arm and you have to replace the whole thing. Is this true? Also are there any bushings I should think about changing while its all opened up?Thanks
I just got my suspention done, all original parts around $1050.00+ labor
Trust me you'll need more than lower and upper ball joints, and re/ upper ball joints you need to replace upper control arm and this is painfull around $350.00 one side( i have paid)
Let me know whats up, i'll help you out

bicol-ini in the LS forums inspired me to install a transmission cooler on my GS3, Package arrived yesterday and I installed the cooler today, While I was in there I installed a filter also. The install took about a hour it was a simple install. Here are some pix. Thanx bicol-ini for the inspiration. B)
So, where did you get it from?
I think thats good idea, i'm not sure about shifting but temp (summer) and how much?
I'm a litlle broke now, just replaced most of front end suspention, let me know- it might be good investment

the tire fits rim fine, but we don't know if he'll rub without knowing offsets.
That's true,I agree offset is the KEY
Ask dealer, you are buying wheels from about fitment
Cool? if you need help, we will

To all of you with shaking problem:
1. Check your front suspention for any worn parts like: ball joints(lower&upper)
2. Check all bushings(metal/rubber)
Whatever you find as loozzzz, replace a.s.a.p
Than DO your aligement
AND AS LAST CHECK BALANCE ON YOUR FRONT WHEELS, AT LEAST!!!!! YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO IT IN TWO TIRE SHOPS, CUZ SOME OF THEM ARE DOING THAT 2 FAST WASTING YOUR MONEY. KEEP YOUR EYE ON TECHNICIAN (IF YOU CAN) OR JUST ASK ABOUT RESULTS OR PRINT OUT IF AVALIBLE

I got mine '00 GS 400 two months ago (original owner) with 70K on it for $17K and this is what i dicovered by myself doing inspection two weeks ago:
1. Upper control arm (ball joints worned) $360.00 each X2= $720.00
2. Lover control arm assembly ( rubber mounts worned) $136.00 each X2= $272.00
3. Lover ball joint (just worned) $61.00 each X2= $122.00
Total parts= $978.00=$20.00shipping= 1K
All parts are new and comes from Lexus Dealer
Labor $0.00= My tools and knowledge
After all i think investing 1K right after purchase is not that bad, trust me everything what is easy to fix (susp., brakes) it's not a big deal, Engine and Trans - thats another story
All i want to say before you make any purchase even from Lexus Dealer inspect SUSPENTION, BRAKES, ENGINE, TRANS., with your friend who knows STUFF
Good luck serching for Best "Lexus"

Please resize your pictures before posting them.
I have removed the images and made links since they are no where near 56k digestible.
Thank you for help with pics, i forgot that they were taken in HQ about (850Kb) each, i'll try to be more carefull with posting them in future, and how can i resize them since i'm not tech. advanced, thanks - Jake

Sounds like a pretty good deal if the car is in good condition. Congrats on the purchase.
Yeah, car is i would say 7.5 in 0-10 scale. I'll need some work with front end, lower ball joints are going bad, i'm going to find out how bad suspention is very soon just before i'll put winter wheels back on. Also breaks need to be replaced front/rear.
Do you have any sugestions? I used to run PORTERFILED on previous VW JETTA, great pads, but there is a problem with dust(alot), you have to clean wheels every weekend, stains are killer.
One more question, regarding sus parts, whats the best place to get them cheaper than dealer, most work on my cars is done by myself
Thanks in advance

Here is the easy part ask the company that sells RPM wells or maker what the center bore is.
Then you will be able to source a ring with an inner bore of 60.1 (toyota/lexus) with the outer diameter matched to your wheel.
Other than that you need to go to a rim and tire store who can take the rim off ,measure the bore and match one to it.
Make sure you are not using the oem toyota nuts as they don;t fit right if at all.
If you want a quick fix loosen each wheel so the nuts are loose but still on.
then slowly rotate the tire wiggleing it around as you tighten the nuts. It will snug the rims more centered.
Yeah, you're right-Thanks bro, gotta call tomorrow and check it out

Yeah i have had same problem, your thermostat is going bad bro, get this done before winter cuz you're going to freezzzzz your !Removed!, big time!!! that thing is located almost on top of engine where air box piping meets intake mainfold, don't have any pictures, sold my SC400 3 years ago with same problem at 135,000 miles :whistles:
-
I don't know about exhaust choice you want to make, but vibration thats what i'm dealing with, and i just got my '00 GS400 with 70,000 miles . From my expirience, problem we have: Worn engine/transmission mounts
You have, same issue i do. Unfortunetly you'll have to repace them sooner or later so start saving some money unless you're ok with litlle discomfort.
I'm wondering how much it will cost me parts/labor, Do you have any idea? :cries:

to ALL. New car, first post- dont be harsh to me, just got on bright side
Previously i have owned '94 SC400 than VW and again Lex, but need some room and GS 400 fits best
I'm in process of buying TEIN Flex coilovers and HP EVO's 19x8.5 front/19x9.5 both with +38 offset. I have done some research and i think i can put 5mm wheel spacers (rear) but still not sure about getting those.
ANY proven knowledge will be greatly appriciated
Thanx in advance-Jake
