  2. I am now getting 20 in City with Costco Premium gas in Phoenix for over a month, yes in stop an go conditions not highway. :D :D :D

I hope you are not going by the on board mpg computer. Those things are always optimistic by 2-5 mpg. Figure it out the old fashioned way with pen and paper. Or for those that forgot how to divide, use a calculator.

  3. But I believe that plastic piece you remove is now permanently gone? Correct me if I'm wrong. That plastic piece is what restrains the wiper from being pulled out more than about those 2-3". I read somewhere that if you remove it, you are "breaking" the plastic piece?

The black plastic piece is made to snap on an off.

  4. You must be getting your mileage calculation from the happy meter (on-board computer). When I calculate it manually I average about 15.5 overall with 17.6 the best I have ever gotten. I drive 70-75 most of the time.
Dont know yet-Mine only has 100 miles on it:)

I guess you are correct. The happy meter gives 17.5 while actual calculations bases on fillups give 15.5 . Why cant Lexus make the happy meter accurate?

Those mpg meters on vehicles are almost always optimistic. No matter who the manufacturer is.

  5. I need to change the rear wiper blade. I'm trying to lift the blade off the window and bend the arm outward away from the back of the car so i may remove the old wiper blade. The problem is it seems like it may break the wiper arm if i try to pull on it anymore. At this point the wiper blade is only off the window about 2-3 inches, the arm is not bent back and i cant bend the blade perpendicular enough to the wiper arm to remove the old blade. I'm really afraid if i pull on the arm more to get it away from the window its going to snap something.

Is the proper procedure to bend the arm out from the window and then turn the blade perpendicular to the arm to remove the old blade. Then insert the new blade and turn it parallel to the arm and bend the arm back so it is flat with the window?

    Thanks

    Bob

Remove the black plastic cover at the base of the wiper arm. It snaps off. Then the wiper arm can lock in outward position.

  6. hI GUYS , NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SWITCH OFF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS...IS THERE A WAY AROUND WITHT E FUSE, IF SO WHICH ONE TO BE DISCONNECT AND HAVE IT CONNECTED WITH THE FOG LAMPS, LET ME KN0W UR IDEAS

Even though most Lexus dealers will say they can't be turned off, the DRL's can be turned off. The dealer needs to use their scan tool and access the menu where they can be turned off. I had it done for no charge on my previous 05, then 06 and my current 07 GX.

If the dealer says it can't be done, ask them to look it up in the Lexus service manual, it's in there.

Now some dealers will say that it is a safety issue and they will not defeat it. Then it's time to try another dealer. I always had the DRL's turned off before I took delivery of the vehicle.

  7. I had the XM added to my GX. It works great. My issue is why does it only use half the Nav screen to display the title and artist?

If the song title or artist have more then 10 or 12 characters (I’m not sure exactly how many) then I’ll only see the first 12.

For example “Take me Home Country Roads”

I’ll get “Take Me Home Cou”

And the rest of the screen to the right is blank?

Does anyone else have an XM system that does this?

    Thanks

    G

It's normal. That is just the way the navigation screen is setup.

  8. I was told that the factory sticker price that you see on price sheets is cheaper because it IS installed at the factory. It costs the dealership more to do it.

The factory approved XM radio is either installed at the port or at the dealership. It is not installed when the GX is being assembled in Japan. Same applies for the tow hitch.

  9. Thats correct. Also, if you put your key in the driver's or passenger's door lock and hold it in the lock position, it will close all windows and sunroof.

Hmmm, my 07 GX doesn't have a key hole on the passenger side. I believe it's to prevent theft since that is the side most thiefs use to break into a vehicle.

  10. Does anyone know how I can purchase this part inside the side mirror pod?

Reversing too fast into the garage...I hit and sheared off the Driver side mirror pod. The mirror is not damaged. Wanting to repair it myself, Lexus dealer says I cannot buy parts to fix it, and cannot provide an exploded diagram of the internal parts (if I had this diagram I'd know exactly which part to try to buy). Im trying to avoid buying the whole painted pod and mount. Right now its duct-taped on and mirrow unit works fine.

The body-color painted mirror pod sits on and rotates on a painted bracket. I sheared a black plastic circular part (with 3 screws in it) that holds the pod to the bracket, and allows the pod to be moved/rotated towards the driver window, but does not (as I did) allow the pod to rotate towards the hood.

    Many thanks

The only replaceable parts listed for the side view mirrors are the mirror glass itself and the entire mirror assembly. You can check ebay. I've seen side veiw mirrors in various colors on that site.

  11. Picking up my new GX next week; dealer tells me it was delivered with chrome wheels (an "upgrade") retail $2,500; will let me have them for $1,250. Haven't seen therm, and I kinda like the liquid graphite. Worth the "upgrade"? Price sounds like about average retail at $1,250, so not sure about the "half off" part...

    Doc H.

Lexus doesn't offer chrome wheels as a factory or port installed option. Those were done at the dealership. Tell the dealer you want the wheels and tires that came on the vehicle. Well, that is unless you do want them?

  12. natestergx, did your GX comes with the optional 3rd row seat from the factory and the used Lexus dealer just didnt give them to you? If your GX did not come with that option, you do not have the barckets for a 3rd row seat and the brackets are really expensive to install. One easy way to tell is that the 3rd row seat option comes with the rear AC system. Do you have a HVAC control panel in the rear of your center concole and air vents on top of the 2nd row seat doors?
Thanks for the feedback. It didn't come with 3rd row seats or rear air. If I bought the seats from someone, and that included the brackets, how difficult would it be for the dealer or a body shop to install?

The 2 rear inside panels are also different and those things are pretty pricey. You also will not be able to use the retractable tonneau cover that comes with the non 3rd seat models.

  13. Has anyone tried 93 octane in a GX470? It's not available direct from pump in California, but one can blend 100 octane racing fuel with 91 to get 93.

I used 93 octane fuel when I lived back east in my 07 GX and now use 91 octane fuel out here and I notice no difference whatsoever. As long as its labeled Premium Unleaded, there should be no difference in performance.

  14. Yeah I am starting to see that around here too. As the RX become way too common, a lot of females are starting to buy the GX.

Up until June when I lived in upstate New York, 90% of the time, men were driving the GX. Now out here in California along the central coast, the same holds true.

  15. The strongest hitch made for the GX470 is the one from the Lexus dealer. This hitch is held on with 12 bolts. All other brands are only held on with 8 bolts. That right there makes a big difference in strength and durability. What is your life and property worth to you?
