Nice movie SD. You guys have a lot of courage. Thanks for keeping US safe!
that isn't as bad as it could be really....but it still bites!
you will defintly need to get to it from underneath and the apply a bit of down pressure too, equally on both sides if you can (maybe a big c clamp?) just be gentle so that it looks unoticable when you are done painting

James,
Thanks for your generous offer. After reading some of the posts I think I'll take the advice and replace them with regular lug-nuts.
Thanks again!
I'm doing some general maintenance this afternoon and one of my tasks is to replace my nuts. I know it sounds painful, but it's a relatively simple procedure. I bought 4 new ones, non-locking, so I will have 4 leftover locking nuts. You are welcome to all four of them (what would that be, one set? two sets?), as well as the magic key, for nothing. I won't even charge a handling fee....no comment on that. I just got tired of having to deal with that goofy key for a set of wheels that isn't of value to anybody.

Thanks Tom,
That's exactly what I need.
Color: I am considering a red myself, but not sure the exact color red to use. I like the look of the red calipers on some of the vettes around town.
But the gold looks good, if I had a gold package I'd be more gold-inclined.
Thanks again,
javapda :D

Javapda, I dont know how old you are or how much experience you have working with cars but you have to learn that using a little force is the way a lot of things come apart, especially on cars. You will never get a ball joint apart etc. without applied force. I'm a mechanic but I didn't know how to get the headrests off either. I asked my Lexus contact at the dealer how to do it and he told me this method. It worked good and I was able to install my sheepskin seat covers. I am impressed with the fact that you are hesitant to believe every post here. Not everyone knows it all on these boards. Including me. Being a mechanic
30 years gives me an edge but I didn't work on Lexus cars every day, so I ask a lot of questions also. I fixed my car a couple times already by getting the answers here.
KennyR - yes, I am new to this care and I LOVE my LS400. Thanks for your feedback!

That's the best I have until I get it back up on jacks again.

Aside from generating more posts for yourself, what exactly is the point of this post????
Ouch.
Is there a better place to put stuff like this? When I wanted similar information I was unable to find it. Had something like this been available it would have helped me quite a bit.
Thanks

Has anyone have any experience painting their brake calipers?
If so, what type of paint? What precautions taken? Favorite color for calipers?
-
Is it me, or does it look like the pads have worn down about 2mm of that rotor? If so, then I'd say you're probably due for a new rotor.
See what i'm talking about? It looks like the pad's wear portion of the rotor has worn down about 2mm of rotor. It's tough to say though, as SK says. Got a better picture?
Is this picture better?

When the brake pad sensor detects wear.
Does this show up as a light on the console "BRAKE"?

Does anyone know of a place to get an Engine Under Cover for a 1996 Lexus LS400? See the image below:
Mine is weathered and time for replacement.
Thanks

Ouch, this is a tough crowd.
But really, have any of you removed it? By pulling it out I'd like to avoid damaging the head-restraint position control mechanism.
Thanks

My 1996 LS-400 has motorized head-restraint (driver's side). How can the head restraint be removed?
Thanks :)

Anyone know where to find sheepskin headrest covers for the LS-400?
Thanks B)

Any suggestions for repairing a small (~1.5 cm) crack on dashboard?
The crack is from exposure to sunlight.
Thanks
