  1. Can anyone tell me what problems or snags should I expecting when changing a lexus engine to a camry engine. My mechanic has told me that he thinks it will be a tedious job to do and has cautioned me that it is not as simple as I think. The engine looks the same to me except for the water housing on the lexus and es seems to have more sensors then the camry. I bought the camry motor from japan and it has 42000 miles on it so that seems very appealing to me since my engne is pushing 200k's. The engine came with a years warranty with exchange if I change certain parts such as the time belt, rear main gasket, and various other parts. To me a non mechanic that does not seem hard with the two engines out of the car. What do you guys think is it worth it I already got the camry engine and I am ready to go pending your opinions. Tyrosome and Sk I would really apperciate input from you guys. :chairshot: ;)

I fixed the overheating problem on my 93 es300 it was the engine coolant sensor at least that got my fan to kick on for now. thanks for all the replies :geek: :) Any way I've got a new problem my car will not idle correctly. It starts out good than it will idle at about 450 rpms what causes this and how can I fix it.:chairshot: :chairshot: :chairshot: thanks again fella's
  3. My car has been running great for the past six months but today I overheated. I changed the radiator and cap flushed out all the fluid and I thought I was ready to enjoy the next six months but my baby started to overheat again. I switch out a old busted up hose to the fan and now my car wont overheat while I drive but my baby will when I am idling what do I do to cure this?????????? I do not want to push her to far casue I love my 200,000 mile chariot. Will some please tell me this can be solve with a flip of a wrench.
  4. The center rod has somehow broken out of the :o :o housing I do not know how but it did. I can push it back down to the housing b ut it will not stay there. I have never had that happen on any of my cars when ever the :whistles: struts or shocks went bad the ride would be bumppy :chairshot: ;) nothing like this.
  5. I have a 93 es300 and the thing drives great but just yesterday I noticed that my hood had a nickel sized bump popping out of it. When I opened the hood I saw that my left side strut had broken thru the assembly :cries: and was pushing my hood up and seems like it may make a hole thru the hood :cries: . The car is not leaning or anything but it is making sounds whenever I drive over bumps. :( Should I change both of the struts or just that one the other one looks fine.

Thanks for the help guys but thank goodness my car head gasket was not blown the computer went out and it caused the engine to misfire I had the computer changed with a rebuilt one and the car is working fine. The trouble was a fuel injector was dumping fuel into a cylinder which was not able to burn all the fuel off thus causing the smoke that was billowing from the tail pipe. the new computer is throwing code 55 and 14, code 55 is the knocksenor on the right side and the code 14 is a ignition malfunction how much will this cost to fix? Can anyone give me some advice on this? Anyway the Tech who fixed everything said that he had to change my oil weight or something; would it be prudent for me to rebulid my engine or should I just play with my oil weight to keep it from burning off?( by rebuliding I mean redoing the o rings on the pistons and machining my head and the engine block etc; I know it will cost me a pretty penny to do, but ,hey, I am planning on keep the car for another three or four years) The car is a 93 es300 and like I said everything works on this car. 4000.00 for the car and 1800.00 for repairs not bad considering its a :P Lexus plus the fact that I hate car payments I think I am still in pretty good shape. Anyways is there any other thing I should do other than regular mtnce which can prolong the life of my engine and tranny .
  7. I bought a Lexus es 300 three weeks ago :chairshot: and thought I got a good deal except for a few dings and a leaky valve cover everything in the car worked perfectly. I got the car checked by several shops that ensured me that the car had no water or oil leaks. Well that did not hold true; I have blue and white smoke billowing from my tailpipe and engine compartment . I took it to a Pep boys in Miami,Florida and I was promptly shown the door they said their computer was not able to read the codes and I should take it to a dealer. I did get the valve cover done;could the tech who did my valve cover cause this ? Anyways before I got the valve cover done I went to a another place and they did get the codes out and said the code related to the knock sensor hearing something. That place fixed my control arms and cvs joints said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my engine any ideals? My car will not idle over 1000 rpms and shuts down after a few minutes No oil is present in my oil, Thank God, however what should I do from here a Master mechanic who once work for toyota is asking me 1500.00 to fix the problem; is it worth it? Help!!!! I do not want to waste any more money unless this will be the end of my problems. People are saying the engine is burning oil and I should get a replacement and other are telling replacing my engine will not solve my problems. After I fill it up with fluid the car works fine for five minutes then boom smoke and a heavy gas smell.
  8. I have just fixed a valve cover oil leak that was not much of a leak at all but it cause a burnt oil smell and I had it fixed. This morning I drove the car hard and white smoke started to come out of engine compartment does this spell doom. I see a new leak and it is leaking directly on top of my transmission. The area the oil is coming from seems to be close to the disbuter cap but I can not pin point it the oil does seem bad but it is causing smoke what can it be? And my check engine light comes on after I move the car and turns off when I shut it down it does not come on until I drive a few blocks my menchanic say it is a code for knock sensor but he say the engine is not knocking or even close to knocking- he turns it off and it just comes back on what can it be the same code over and over again 55 or 52. by the way the car is a 93 es3oo with 180000.00miles on it.
