  1. i thook the car to lexus dealer and they said that the reving is cause by a bad knock sensor which keep the tranny from kicking into the higher gear (like a safe mode thing) so i took the car back to the independent dealer and they replace the two knock sensor for me. So far so good, it seem that the over drive is working and it kicking into the higher gear which there is no reving at all, 80mph is at 3100 RPM. I had two Mechanic told me that the knock sensor had nothing to do with the tranny but the guy at the lexus dealer said that if the knock sensor is broken than it would keep the car from going into the highger gear, that which would cause the reving. Well hopefully the knock sensor was it and everything works good from now on. ill keep you posted
  2. ok, let say you left your OD button off and drove on the freeway at 80mph. So the car is not smart enough to kick into a higher gear by itself? I dont know how the Overdrive thing work cuz my overdrive doesn't work. Can anyone tell me what happen if you go 80mph with the OD button off? thanks
  3. FYI - just got a call from lexus and they said the reason the car is reving is because of the Knock sensor ( i dont know if i spelled that right) . Does anyone know anything about this part. it gonna cost me $975. is this a easy fix that i can do myself or should i let them do it. if the car you are buying has the same problem as i have then i think you still would have a pretty good deal buying the car even if it mean puting out $975 or less to fix it, that would make it around 15k for a 99 rx300 with 48k mile on it. i think it a good deal.

  5. Thanks, also with the digital odometers is there anyway they can roll back the odometer with a computer? And how can you tell if the model is FWD or AWD, this model has a button on the console for 'snow' traction is that it?? ← my car doesn't say it a AWD but on the title of the car said it and yes my car has the snow traction thing too, so my guess is that it is AWD
  6. it will only cost 96$ for dianostic on the car and it up to you to fix it or not at the lexus dealership. if you do fix it there, they will wave the $96 and you pay for the whole cost of repair.
  7. i would check if the reving is going to be a problem because i just got a used 2000 rx300 and i think it has a tranny problem where it reving too high on the freeway, 5000 rmp at 80mph and 4000 at 60mph. that with the OD on. but it nothing is wrong with the engine than yes it is a good buy but IMO i think the price is too good to be true. is this at a indepented dealership or private seller. One thing i want to point out is that the powertrain warranty is 6 years or 70,000 mile so if you got a 99 rx then i think i powertrain warranty is over and so if you do have a tranny problem then you would have to cover the expense yourself. In my case it barely still under warranty and i got 67,000 miles.
  8. I always have the OD on at all time and what do you mean 4000rpm at 60mph is normal? that crazy !!! I spend most of my time on the freeways anyways so 60-80 mph @ 4000-5000 RMP is not good especialy when it stucking up all my gas at those high RMP.
  9. hey i have the same problem with my used 00RX300 i just pick up two weeks ago, im returning it to the dealer that i got it from (which is a small use car dealership) cuz it is still under warranty with them. Hopefully they can fix the problem, or have lexus deal with it cuz it still under warranty. I do most of my drivein on the freeway in california and sometime to keep up with traffic you have to go around 70-80 mph and at 80mph the RMP is at 5000. Please keep us posted on this issue, i would like to know if lexus could fix the problem for you and if it was covered under the powertrain warranty. thanks
  10. ← Sorry, you have a tranny problem, That is the exact symptoms on my RX300 AWD when it failed. If they drop the pan, it is probably full of metal debris. The valve body assembly is hosed. Grap that transmission immediately while under warranty, and make sure they flush the entire system and put all parts back in correctly. Read Transmission info on this site. You have joined the ranks of failures despite what Monarch says. Good Luck! ← how did you get your RX300 fix?
  11. yea on my 00 rx300. is it easy for them to find out if there is a tranny problem? because this problem dont really happen that offen, just when it wants to.
  12. i talk to lexus and they said if it the tranny then they will replace it for me, but can they find out the problem by hooking it up to a computer or do what ever they do with out driving it? im just afaid that they will just say everything is fine.
  13. i had this problem twice since it got it, i went to the lexus dealer today and ask if they can fix the problem for me but they first have to determine if my problem is still covered under the power train warranty, and in order for them to do that is that i have to leave the car over night and a $110 dianostic fee. I heard they can upgrade the ECU computer chip that should fix the problem? has anyone got there chip upgraded yet? and does it really fix the problem?. i know something is wrong with my car because coming home from dinner i was driveing on the freeway at 80 mph and i notice that the RPM is at 5, which i think is very high right? Can anyone tell me if this is normal My car is a 2000 rx300 awd. it has 67k miles on it. Man i just got this car and it giving me such a big headach already, im very disappointed with lexus for having this issue on a very expensive car like the RX.
  14. it does not say. but i called the local dealer and the power train for the engine and transmission is 6yr and 70k miles from the date of purchase. i hope it right cuz i have 67k on my car now.
  15. does anyone know the specifics of the lexus 2000 rx. i know the car bumper to bumper is 4yr 50k which ever comes first but how about the engine or the tranny. thanks
  16. last week i bought a use rx300 from a small dealership, it's a 2000 and has 66k miles on it. when i was driving home one day, i was at a red light and when it was time to go i steped on the gas and the car rmp only when up to 2k and the car move very slow until it picked up speed. At the next stop light it happen again so i steped on the gas and floored it and it still when up to 2k but then it finally kick in and the rmp when up to like 5-6 and the car took off. this problems only occurs when it wants to. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? the dealer has a 1200 mile or 1 month warranty which ever come first. but how will i prove there is something wrong with the car when the problem only happens when its wants to? can the tranny go out at 66k, ????? for a japanese car. thanks
