  1. about the gasket - there isn't one! The factory used silicone to seal the oil pump. also i have rebuilt this engine so I had to buy an engine kit which also did not have oil pump gasket. I have not been driving this car with those symptoms so I dont think the motor will sustain any damage, I had it idle for as long as 3 hours one time, but you're right at higher RPM's the oil pump (if it is indeed the problem) wouldn't supply enough oil to the cams... aaarrrgggg I'll have to remove it again, what a pain.
  2. skperformance - im suspecting the pump as well reason being is that I had to take it off and then re-install it when i was working on my engine I'm thinking I might have a bit much silicone to seal it and might have cloged some passage ways partially because oil is getting to the valves, you can see it when you take the oil cap off. im not sure if that is so though and I really dont want to take it all apart again. The thing is it didnt gave me that light before the repairs. On a diferent note, my power steering is not working properly either, could it be linked in any way? I understand that it is a self bleeding system just move the steering wheel from one end to the other and that should get rid of air in the hoses. Im so burned out by this ES
  3. thanks steviej, that would have been my next move to start checking the sensors, there are a million of them on these cars... as for the oil change light there is no such thing that I have seen on my es... oh well more diging around... this car is starting do drive me nuts.
  4. What year toytota does she drive? Does anyone know how to reset those lights?
  5. skperformance - my coolant is full I have checked and re-checked it a thousand times ... plus it has an oil can pictured amf1932 - The light doesn't go out or blink until i shut off the engine and if I start it again it only takes a few seconds to light up and as I mentioned the light comes on only after about 3-5 min or when when the engine warms up... Im really stumped by this one, dont know which angle to approach it from
  6. thank you lexusk8, that is odd the dipstick shows full! what the heck is going on here??? I have 10W30 semi-senthetic oil in there what could be wrong with it? It only lights up when the car gets hot....
  7. bump.... Oh C'mon no one has an owners manual to a 92 - 93 ES300???
  8. I just peplaced a lot of things on my '93 ES and now when I start the car I get a Yellow oil light the one that looks like it has waves under the oil can. I was wondering if any one knows what that means. I know the red oil light means that you have low oil pressure which is ususally one of two things 1) Bad oil pump or 2) No Oil... I chacked my engine fluids they seem to be ok... If any one has an owners manual (it should be listed there) please look it up. Thanks. Lito
  9. WOW! Thanks for such a detailed directions I'm sure that some readers will find it useful I have done mentioned above a time or two in my life, I just wanted to get the fluid specs. :D I have just rebuilt an engine on this thing and didn't want to get the "simple" part wrong... poneyboy you mentioned that you keep the cap open to bleed the air out of the system? There is a much simple and faster way of doing this... fill up the radiator until the coolant won't fit anymore. Close the cap start your car and drive around the block, let the car cool (just to be on the safe side) and top off the coolant reservoir to the full line. You can check it in a day or two to make sure the coolant is up to levels. Reason why is because eventually and I mean only a few miles or so all the air from the coolant system will exit through the reservoir and get replace with coolant... Anyhow every one has their way of doing things this is just an alternate method some one might like to try.
  10. Thank you for posting the specs I am sure that some one besides me will find it usefull as well. As for the coolant goes ethelyne-glycol is kinda pink and DexCool is orange looking which I am told is also OK I have been told (more then once) NOT to use the green coolant because it damages the water pump so on and so forth. If you ever want to check or replace tranny fluid in the second location which keeps the differential lubricated, it is located on the back of the transmission, facing the firewall. It's a wierd looking alen wrench type plug. Be carefull if your car is tilted it will start to run when unscrewed. Thanks again, Lito
  11. Hi Fellow ES300 Owners... I am working on my ES300 and don't have an owners manual, I am replacing all the fluids under the hood and would like to know fluid specs. I am sure that some one on this bord has an owners manual please help me out by listing some of the not so obvious ones here... Engine Oil - 10W30 - ???Qts. Transmission Fluid - What kind does it take? (I belive it has two places to put the oil in, is it the same oil or differnt oil) - ???Qts. Powersteering Fluid - I heard it was tranny fluid, is it true? - ???Qts. Well I think I read enough about antifreeze - so I know it's Red kind DexCool - ???Qts.(Gallons) Bake Fuid - DOT rating? - ???Qts. and if I missed something important please fill in the blank. () Thanks, Lito
  12. thanks steviej It's too late for that I have got lalf an engine taken appart, im replacing water pump, timing belt while im there and I guess the head gaskets. Reading old posts it seems alot of people are heaving trouble with those, so might as well. I was reading one of the threads and some one found a head gasket set for $100, any one know where? the cheapest I found online is $240+ and in town nothing less $350+...
  13. Thanks for your sugestions, speaking of coolant, I drained WATER from there, who ever owned this prior to me didn't take good care of the car. Right now I filled it with DEX-COOL Orange Antifreeze is this the right stuff? By the way the steam is coming out from the head that is next to the firewall, it's really hard to see where as there are a spider web of tubes and hoses and also from the tail pipe at high RPM's. I don't know maybe those factors will make sence to some one, as some one sugested to me that it might be a head gasket. Is there any way to chek any of these symptoms to see if it is head gasket. Im getting desperate here. Thanks again for any sugestions given. Lito
  14. Just bought my firts lexus... it's a 1993 ES300. It is a fixer-upper. I have problems with the cooling system, today I started with replacing a thermostat and a radiator cap it runs better and last longer before the temp needle starts climbing past the middle. So my next step is to replace my water pump and hope that it fixes the overheating problem. I notices alot of white steam or smoke coming from what looks to be the head (I might be wrong) now Im woried. Has anyone else ran into this kind of problem? What could it be, and what should I do. Oh and by the way does any one know whow long does it take to replace the water pump hourwise, Im doing everything my self so I am kind of curious as to how long I will spend on it. Lito
