  1. I have found Lexus is NOT making gold emblems for the 400h.

Any available are the 33o set, or they dip the silver ones in plating.

They are made of plastic though.

    jerryray...Are the factory emblems plastic??

Put a Thundercloud grille on your new ride. They're on special at this time. My brother's going to put one on his black 400h. I've seen a picture of a black one with the TC grille. Looks awesome in my opinion. :) :) :)

  2. I'm going to order a Lexus trailer hitch from an internet site I found. They have the cheapest price. I have never ordered from them before. I know exactly what part I need. As part of the ordering process, they ask for the vehicle's VIN. It's optional but if you don't provide it, there are no returns or exchanges.

I'm not really comfortable with giving them the vehicle's VIN and I don't see why they would need it for a trailer hitch. Other vendors I contacted didn't ask for the VIN. They just offered to order the hitch, ship it to me and charge my credit card. The site I want to order from is quite a bit cheaper than others. What should I do?? Thanks.

Of course, I have to give them my credit card info. If I give them the VIN, is there a chance it could be used for some illicit purpose or am I just being paranoid??

  3. Why in the world would he spend money on a battery unless it was late Saturday and all dealerships were closed?

He didn't want another OEM battery. He thought it was "cheap." So, he replaced it at his own expense. :( That's the story.

Just out of curiousity, what kind of battery is the "cheap" OEM battery?? I've never seen it.

  4. Yep, all you do is press down that little button, or open a cover to reveal a button that lets you press in the large button on the shifter and lets you put the car in gear or neutral.

Interesting. Doesn't seem very secure to me and obviously it's not.

  5. see the dealer they will cover the battery

I told him that Lexus would make good on the battery. But, yesterday he bought an aftermarket, "heavy duty" Exide battery for the vehicle from a local parts house. Next visit to dealer: "Mr. Smith, you installed a non-OEM battery. Your warranty is invalidated." I can hear it now!! Don't know why I'm so paranoid?? <_<

  6. haha true..well they would need something to pick it up also

This is where you're wrong. Breaking into a car is simpler than it seems.

    1. Break window.

    2. Climb in.

    3. Press Shift Lock Release and put car in Neutral; release parking brake.

    4. Attach tow cables and pull onto flatbed, or if the flatbed lifts all the way off the truck and onto the ground, push car onto flatbed and secure, then raise bed with car on it to transport.

Not from experience or anything.

Vehicle can be shifted into neutral without having the key?? Shift lock release??

  7. While I was installing my hitch a couple weeks ago I noticed that the rear bumper is basically a plastic bumper cover over a kind of styrofoam!  It looked and felt exactly like the kind of foam used to make bicycle helmets  :)

After bike helmets receive a hard impact they are supposed to thrown away because the foam crushes in order to absorb the impact and it no longer protects you the next time.

I wonder if it is recommended that after you get into a collision you replace your bumper even though the damage doesn't look that bad from the outside because the foam inside might be crushed.

That's nice. $52,000 for a styrofoam bumper?? Guess it saves weight, huh??

  8. On a new vehicle? $650 on a $42,000 vehicle isn't inexpensive? Definately get them on a new vehicle. Retrofit into an old one? I'd pass.

I love the HID lights and hate driving a car without them. They come pointed down a little from the factory making it easier to overdrive them, but thats easily corrected.

Easily corrected as in manual adjustment???

  9. I have a Motorola V710, this phone does not transfer phonebook contents.

I have entered a 1 touch number manualy, but there does not seem to be a way to enter Name that goes with the number.

I think it has to come from a phone book  transfer, which MY V710 does not do. So it seems you cannot create a new phone book.

    Can anyone confirm this?

Owners manual  is very poor regarding this..

jerryray...This has been discussed at length in another thread. Here's the link to that thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=20877&hl= If you check out this thread, you may find an answer to this question.

Perhaps this post can be moved to the other thread??

  10. Hope someone can help with this problem. We have a several year old VCR. Yes, they still exist. At any rate, I use it to record TV shows and play them back at a later date. The last couple of times, when I play back the recorded program, part of the sound drops in and out and the HI-FI light goes on and off. It's as if one channel of the sound is dropped. Very annoying. I tried a different tape, same problem. Could it be a dirty record head?? Any help appreciated. Thanks

  11. The converter 82670-48050 is only required for vehicles without the tow package.  The hitch PT228-48045 comes with the wiring harness.  If you install by yourself you'll need a torque wrench and 12mm, 14mm, and 15mm sockets.

speedyg...Have you actually installed your hitch WITHOUT the converter or is it still in the box?? Also, regarding the converter, according to some websites I have visited, part #82670-48045 has been superceded by part #82670-0E040. This is an expensive part, about $150.

  12. Battery is covered for a number of years ( I can't remember the number but I thought around 8). I'm sure they'd be happy to cover the problem with no question. They are the Best when it comes to being accommodating.

Hybrid battery is 8 yrs. Don't think they're that generous with the 12-volt battery, are they??

  13. I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I know that the RX400h, a $50K+ vehicle, doesn't have an alarm system because a guy in Brooklyn had his HID headlamps ripped out while parked on the street. Do the high-end Lexus models--LS, GS--have factory alarm systems???

  14. Just talked to my brother. He has had his 400h for 1 month. He said the 12-volt battery is dead and it won't hold a charge. He also made some comments about the quality of the battery that I won't repeat here.

I assume that the battery is covered by the Lexus warranty and will be replaced for free if found to be defective?? If not, trash it and get an aftermarket battery???? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

  15. On the window sticker for my car, under Luxury, next to Roof Rails with Racks is "Towing Prep Package".

Is is possible that the sticker is wrong?

The converter 82670-48050 is only required for vehicles without the tow package.  The hitch PT228-48045 comes with the wiring harness.  If you install by yourself you'll need a torque wrench and 12mm, 14mm, and 15mm sockets.

Update: On 8/2/05, I contacted Lexus.  I was told that the junction block assembly, part #82670-48050, is NOT required on the 400h because it is already installed at the factory.  That "jives" with what I found on lexus.com.  According to Lexus.com, the specifications for the 400h are as follows:

    >

    > Trailer hitch: optional

    > Trailer wiring: standard

    > Towing Prep Package: standard (listed under Luxury)

    > Tow capacity (max): 3500

    Thanks to everyone who contributed.

ted...Based on what I have seen on lexus.com, my telephone conversation with Lexus customer satisfaction and speedyg's post in this thread, the sticker on your vehicle is not wrong. So, I don't understand why the dealer charged you for a junction block assembly when they installed your hitch. Supposedly, it's already there!! I think you should have a conversation with the dealer and/or Lexus Customer Satisfaction regarding this matter.

  16. The manual looks quite normal for a jump start. So, you can (according to the manual) jump start the 400h. I used my 400h to jump my RX 300 recently. Getting to the 400h's 12v battery is a simple matter of removing the cover by popping several pins -- all spelled out in the 400h manual.

Having said that, I accidently left my 400h's dome light on one night. I had done this before on my RX 300 and had to jump it the next morning. On the 400h, it started with no problem. I can't claim that the electric motor's batteries were what helped here, but I was sure surprised when it started with no problem. It could have been because the 12v battery was so new that the dome light wasn't enough to drain it.

I was under the impression that most new vehicles will shut off power if a light is accidentally left on for more than a certain time period. Even our old 94 Nissan Quest had this feature. I know my Corvette does as well. Why wouldn't a 2006 Lexus?

Not the rx400h, I had the doors open for 4 hours and the door lights never went off.

Another shortcoming of the 400h. What do you expect for $50K...perfection?? :whistles:

  17. Does anyone know the part numbers for the gold trim for the RX400h, perhaps who has the trim in stock.

    TIA

luxurymods.com has the gold trim but, as far as I know, not for the 400h. I have corresponded with them about accessories and was told they could check on what I wanted, e.g. black pearl emblems. Steve at L-tuned would, of course, be a possible source as well. The prices ain't cheap. If I recall correctly, luxurymods gets $300 for the gold trim. But, it may be too soon for 400h-specific parts.

    Your vehicle is silver???

  18. Well after a bit of more research i have decided to take the grille guard off my Rx330.

It didn't look right anyway. If it was polished stainless steel i might have reconsidered. It's not worth it. The black doesn't look good.

Good choice, in my humble opinion. Frankly, I don't know why grill guards are even legal when driving on public roads. From what I have read, grill guards are more dangerous to the occupants of your own vehicle, clearly more dangerous to any car you hit (acts like a battering ram). And I think they make the Lexus vehicles look less "slick" anyway. Just one person's opinion.

I do like the looks of the polished stainless steel grille guards for the Rx300 though. I like it with either a blue or black rx300.

Kid...have yours painted to match your vehicle. How would that look?

My brother wants to put a center grill guard on his black 400h. At first, I thought it might look cool. After thinking about it, I don't know. Might look like a Subaru. At this point, it's a moot point because, to my knowledge, there are no grille guards for the 400h.

Oh, by the way, today I had to go to the post office. Always very scary. I saw a Kia Sorento. The grille does look just like the Sport grille for the RX330. :( :( :( :( :(
