  1. I haven't received any serious inquiries from local owners. I'm wondering if I put this topic in the wrong section. My offer to do the new lexus (any newer model) for free. It really doesn't get any better than that. If anyone is nervous about having their gauges taken apart, I am a professional doing gauge modifications for many, many, many, many cars and motorcycles for the last 3 years. I am also a certified mobile electronics technician. I have run a car audio/video business for the last 7 years. I guarantee all my work for as long as you own the car. This should reassure those hesitant to have custom work done. I'm very, very good at what I do. :)

  2. Are you able to mod an aftermarket headunit? I wanted to replace mines with an aftermarket unit but the HU I want doesn't have amber lighting.

Absolutely! Here is a pic of an aftermarket unit I modded. This is a Pioneer DEH-P4800MP.

I don't like to mod double din touch screen units, because they are very sensitive (no, I didn't learn the hard way, I just know). :)

Just let me know what kind of radio you want to get.

  3. so if i were to ship you my cluster youd hook me up? with good time as well... hmm..

if this is so im liking you more and more...

well ill wait to see the workings of the first and let you know... cause like i said im very leary about doing it.. i can solder and such but lexus is a trouble some sensor car

Yes, you are correct, Lexus is a little tricky to work on. I did a gauge conversion on a 2004 SC400 (the gauges have twist bulbs in them, and the needles have built-in LED's (non-replaceable). Here are a few pics. (Click on the picture to view a full-size image)

I will wait until I do work on a local Lexus before I offer my services to those out of town. I currently do a lot of scion and motorcycle gauge conversions for people all over the country (a lot). I have a 1 day turnaround time for these people, so downtime is minimal.

I've had a few PM's, but nothing is set yet, so the offer for a free local swap is on the table. :)

  4. Thanks, I'm glad you like my work!

For the first mod, I would like to do work on a local car. I do mod gauges from all over the country (a lot of gauges for scions and motorcycles). I have a 1 day turnaround time for out-of-town customers. I'll ship the day after I receive the gauges/parts. This way, downtime is minimal.

I will be offering my services to those that are not local as soon as I get everything worked out on a local car. This way I can have the circuit done, removal instructions set (for those that need it), and plenty of pictures for my customers to choose from.

    :)

  5. Hi Everyone, I would like to introduce myself. I run a car audio/video business in Orange County, CA, and I have been doing LED conversions on cars and motorcycles for over 1 year. I have been doing countless scion gauge conversions, and have come up with some very custom work.

I'd like to offer my services to you guys for Lexus cars. I would like to know if anyone would be interested in getting their gauge converted to different color LED's, and would like to stop by.

I am VERY good with electronics, and circuits, so I am definitely up for the job. I have run a car audio/video business for over 7 years now, and I am a certified mobile electronics installer, so working on cars, and electronics is definitely nothing new to me.

I don't have any pics on my website of gauge conversions for a Lexus at the moment, but here are some pics of my work on the Scion TC.

I'm located in central Orange Country, CA (Tustin). I'm willing to do the first conversion on a local Lexus for free (must be a newer model).

    Thanks!

  6. I would check the connection to the speaker. There is no fuse for speakers, but I guess it's possible it became disconnected.

If it's plugged in the speaker, then test the speaker. Get a battery (9V or 12V) and quickly tap the connections of the speaker. If it pops, then the speaker works, and must be a wiring issue.

I have more possibilities, but try these.

(It could be the output is bad at the head unit too, but we can test that later).

  7. I am in Orange County on occasion. Do you have a recommendation for new tweeters?

Pioneer and Alpine have always been a favorite of mine as far as clarity and performance. Your RX 350 has 6½" component speakers, and I would recommend replacing them with the same type of speaker. Component speakers give a much more dynamic sound, as well as sound staging.

Here are a few suggestions for 6½" Component speaker replacements.

    Option 1:

Pioneer has a new line of speakers out called their PRS line. It is their highest line speakers which sound very good.

I recommend replacing with Pioneers PRS Series 6¾" Component Speakers. The model number is TS-C720PRS.

Here is a link to Pioneer's product page.

I would recommend amplifying these speakers with Pioneer's 4 channel amplifier - Model Number GM-6200F. Here is a link to Pioneer's product page.

    Option 2:

Alpine has a set of similar 6½" Component Speakers which also sound phenomenal. The model number is SPR-17LS. They are Alpine's Type-R speaker (top of 3 lines - with the exception of their Type-X line - which is for custom staged vehicles and show cars at $3,500 per pair

Here is a link to Alpine's Type-R Component Speakers product page.

I would suggest amplifying these speakers with this Alpine amp. Model number MRP-F450. Here is a linke to Alpine's product page.

If you want to follow this setup with a subwoofer to complete the system, I can recommend a few options. You probably don't want to be setting off car alarms with your stereo :D , but I can recommend something nice to give that extra emphasis with your music (nothing that will overwhelm your speakers).

I will PM you with pricing information, or you can PM me or e-mail me at MobileVideoSpecialists@cox.net.

  8. Hello everyone.

I am not satisfied with the quality of the speakers in my new 2007 RX350. Does anyone have any suggestions for upgrades?

Furthermore, I live in the Fresno, CA area. Can anyone recommend a decent installer? I am willing to travel.

    Thanks!

I'm a little to far from you, but I'm a great installer! B)

But I don't know anyone in the Fresno area

  9. Does anyone know were you can get this.? I have no idea and need one imediately unfortunately there is no contact information for this person. Please e-mail directly to jmlaudio@hotmail.com thank you so much for your time and consideration

That's a custom piece. The radio and center channel speaker shown in the pictures in the link you posted just mount normally using the factory radio bracket.

The trim piece was just fabricated (probably out of abs) to make it look nice.

  10. I always keep disposable cameras in my cars so that I can take pictures if there is an accident.  It was useful a couple years ago when a truck rear ended me.  I quickly took pictures of the positions of the vehicles, the damage, the truck's license plate, and the truck's driver :)  Got insurance judgement 100% in my favor.

very smart, but I heard that disposable only last for a short amount of time in a car, and the sun can ruin it. So I hear.

  11. Can anyone confirm whether there is an aftermarket dual screen system that mounts in the headrests *that ties into the existing dashboard system* (so the driver can view the movie when parked)?  It's not clear from this thread.  Thanks!

Yes, you can integrate the dvd to play in the front monitor. PAC is the company that makes the part for it. It is a pain in the !Removed! to install (as I do this for a living), and it costs about $350 - $400. It is really meant for a backup camera, but you can plug in a video source from a dvd player and have the audio run via fm modulator (not a big fan, but best for factory systems).

P.S. I am doing some research on the 400h for my uncle (he wants to buy one). what is the RES/RSES that everyone is talking about? It seems to me like some kind of option. Thanks!

    Thanks.

Rear Seat Entertainment (or Rear Seat Entertainment System) is one of only 3 options available on the 400h, and as I understand it, the system is actually included in very few of these vehicles. I.e., if you want it as a factory installed option, you may have to wait until "your" ordered vehicle is made and shipped from Japan, rather than getting on a dealer waiting list and scooping up a vehicle when your name comes up.

It is a fold-down monitor, 7" I believe, mounted just to the rear of the sunroof. Lots of people complain that it's too small AND blocks their rear view (seemingly mutually-exclusive traits), but it apparently has the attributes of (a) being linked to the front dash system, therefore allowing the drive to watch the movie when parked (which prompted my own question), and (B) including a built-in inverter which (I believe) provides a 120V AC power source in the trunk rather than simply another standard 12V DC plug (though one could always purchase an inverter and simply plug it into one of the 12 V plugs...not sure if the built in inverter is "better"...I think there is another thread on that topic).

  12. Wow, I can't believe all that! That would make me really frustrated. I am doing some research for my uncle before he buys a 400h, and I always thought it was great that lexus gives you a lexus when your car is in for service. paying $50,000 for a car to get a $15,000 (that smells like smoke, gets less mileage, and who know what other abuse that car has had) when you need repairs always made me mad! I hope something works out for you to either get that damn bumper soon, or at least get a nice lexus w/navigation to use in the meantime!
