  1. hey guys....just wondering if (other than looks) there is much benefit to having a staggered set up on rims.

if i got 20X8.5 all around, am i going to gain/give anything up? the reason i ask, is because i found some rims i like and they only come in 8.5

just let me know thanks alot

  2. the inside of the headlight bulb is filled with gas and yes...i think it is supposed to be clear.  if it has any blackness to it then its blown.

Do you have any idea of why my lights will not turn on unless I turn the switch several times. I used to be able to just turn the light switch to ON and they would come on with no problems. Any suggestions on what I can try to solve that problem??. Could it be that since one light bulb blew it causes the rest of the lights to act funny..not turn on when the light switch is on

could be exactly as turbogs300 said...ballasts could be burning out....

your bulb could be fried tho. when i had to replace my bulbs, same thing would happen....i would start the car and it would look fine, and then it would slowly start to die out, eventually dying and then not being able to turn back on.

i would suggest going to www.xenondepot.com and ordering a new set of bulbs, and maybe ballasts as well if you have the money...i think the ballasts are like 130USD or something like that.

if you do replace the headlight bulbs, replace both sides at the same timem, otherwise it looks bad

  3. had my e36 325is up to about 135mph (~210kmh) on the way to my gramas house for breakfast. haha it was like 630 in the morning and it was a 2 lane highway....long and straight as you could see. as im slowing down to pull into the turnoff for their community i see 2 cop cars exiting. haha the speed limit was 60mph and i was THAT close to getting caught.

havent taken the gs out for too much fun yet. just enough to make my friends !Removed! their pants haha

  4. i dont think SRT is just some hack shop that takes old washing machine PVC piping, bends it to kinda fit, and the sticks a wal mart intake filter on the end; and includes in the package a 15$ "ecu upgrade" available on ebay under the "one make fits all cars" category. haha

i mean if you look at their site, everything is lexus related. its a high performance lexus tuner, which i am finding are few and far between.

    http://www.divisionone.org/inside/srt/srt.html

i mean when the owner of the shop drives a car like in that link you have to assume that :

    1. he knows what hes working with

    2. He enjoys working with what he is

    3. hes not just some guy who sells lexus parts and drives a different brand car

    just my opinion

also, i dont think ive read anything bad about the SRT intake on here or anyother board

  5. The answer is really simple, but not one you probably want to hear.  You drive a lexus not a sports car.  If you want more performance, go buy a sports car.  That's why I have a GS300 and a Corvette.  One is for *plush* driving, one is for performance.

This is true but if you have a BMW or certain Benz's (both plush luxery rides) you can have both. Lexus hasn't caught up to that yet...or at least mine hasn't. So I just want to see if I can make the ride a bit more like I want. I'm sure others feel the same...

It is true that with BMW and Mercedes you CAN have both, but that doesnt always mean that you indefinitly WILL get both. When looking at the cars that produce these large levels of HP and TQ you need to look at what models they are. i mean yea the e39 M5 has 400 hp all day long.

    BUT, consider that it is

    1. VERY expensive to buy

    2. VERY rare

    3. Even more expensive to maintain

    4. in the shop more than on the road

mercedes has been putting out some rocket ships as of late. but if the letters on your car dont have AMG associated with them anywhere your not looking at astronomical performance (500s and 600s are pretty fast still)

lets compare some cars here shall we? looking at 1998, brand new GS's on the market. the gs300 and the all new gs400

    gs300 vs benz e320 ---

    lexus gs300 had 225hp and 220tq -- 20mpg city / 25mpg hwy.....not too bad

    merc e320 had 221hp and 232tq -- 21mpg city/ 28mpg hwy

how much of a difference is that? i honestly dont think that someone would complain about the "lackluster performance" of the gs300 and praise the "supercar performance" of the e320.

    gs400 vs benz e430

    lexus gs400 had 300hp and 310tq -- 17mpg city / 23mpg hwy...not bad for a V8

    merc e430 had 275hp and 295tq -- 19mpg city/ 26mpg hwy

now, if im doing the math here right.....the lexus ACTUALLY has 25hp and 15tq MORE than the mercedes. and an interesting fact here is that the lexus was actually about 1 whole sec faster than the merc 0-60. hmmmmm

gs300 vs bmw 528i--- (i would have compared to 530, but not avail. in 1998)

    look above for lexus stats

    bmw 528i had 190hp and 206tq -- 18mpg city / 26mpg hwy

ummm...haha i mean 35hp and 14tq difference??? not to mention the lexus still got better fuel economy in the city????

    gs400 vs bmw 540i----

    gs 400 same as above

    bmw 540i had 282hp and 324tq -- 18mpg city / 24mpg hwy with an auto

    15mpg city/ 24mpg hwy with the stick

now...the only thing lexus loses out here in is tq...and the 540i is a torque horse there is no denying that.

the only point im trying to make is that if your going to compare anything, you need to compare apples to apples, and oranges to oranges. i mean you cant compare a 1998 lexus gs300 that cost lets say $45K? brand new, or even for that matter a 2005 gs300 that costs maybe $50,000 fully loaded to a 2005 Mercedes E55 amg that is selling for $81,250 new.

also, dont forget that when the gs400 came out in 1998 it was one of the fastet production sedans on the market, i think with the exception of the jaguar XJR. and it stayed that way until the e39 M5 came into production. but, as im sure everyone has read and is already aware, the production numbers of the M5 didnt classify it in the same category as the lexus or the jaguar.

just something to think about if you have time to read all of this hahahah

  6. just wanted to let everyone know that this weekend my 6500k kit came from

    www.xenondepot.com

they look amazing. like stock only a little bit more of a bluish hue to them. none of this purple or any of that stuff. i was a little hesitant about losing light output but there was none of this. they also had a sale on right now and i got them for pretty cheap in comparison to what you would pay at a lexus dealer for their replacements, and these ones look better. they also shipped the next day and i had them pretty much 2 days after i ordered them.

just thought i would let everyone know.

OH, haha almost forgot. if you ARE going to replace your HIDs, replace them both at the same time. it just looks better and you can be gauranteed similar life expectancy, which should be lifetime. ;)

  7. HI guys, im new to the club and i have a question.  Im thinking of getting the new 06' gs rims 5 spoke or g spider on my 98' gs4.  Will it fit?  I have now 19' zenetti 5 with low profile tires and im looking to trade them.  It's in good condition.  The reason i want to trade them is the fact that nyc has too many pothole and driving has become more stressful for me to dodge them and watching the pavement all the time.    I'll also do a trade for  00' 5 spoke 17' if you got em.

i looked at those rims but still havent made a decision on whether or not to buy that set of rims. if you are interested in still selling/trading we could do that if you would email me at

    dbrigley@bolder.net.

i might have missed you and you have already sold or traded them but let me know. i have stock 17" 5 spoke, and 16" 6 spokes for my car.

  8. decided to go with the 20" style, but in a 19" setup

Can you elaborate on this statement? I am not sure I understand.

    sorry i should clarify....

i started a post a little while back asking peoples opinions on what style of rim i should go with. one style was a 19" mesh style, and the other a 20" 5 spoke design. i decided to go with the 20" 5 spoke design, but in a different size (19")

hahah i guess its being a bit naive to think people remember previous posts. should have clarified

  9. So i was at my local shop yesterday and my man there hooked me up with a package deal for some 19s.

i started a thread a while back about choosing 19s or 20s. well i decided to go with the 20" style, but in a 19" setup heres what the wheel looks like:

    http://www.jazwheels.com/wheels.html

the wheel is called Trinity. it is in the second row, on the right. if you think that this wheel or any of the other wheels look kinda like AXIS wheels, its cus they pretty much are. i guess when 2 of the founding people of AXIS left AXIS, they started JAZ wheels and brought their designs with them. anyways, thats besides the point.

here also is the tire included in the package. it is brand brand brand new from dunlop known as the DIREZZA

    http://www.dunloptire.com/dunlop/display_t...rea=Performance

i guess this is a brand new tire and am hearing nothing but good things about it.

So here it is. the package price i was quoted rims/tires mounted and balanced at a local speed shop is:

    19 x 8.5 fr with 245/35R/19

    19 x 9.5 rr with 275/30R/19

total package price is $3195 CAD or $2550 USD

anyone have any say in this price at all? i mean its impossible to ask if this is too much or too little, as everyone has different budgets. if anyone has an opinion it would be greatly appreciated

  10. 1991 Honda Accord Ex-r (or in usa LX i think)

fully loaded, got it for my 16th birthday. 500$ total repairs in 2 years of owning. amazing fuel economy, great starter car

    1991 Nissan 240sx

ABSOLUTE Lemon, but i loved it cus i learned to drift and absolutely bagged the SH*T out of it haha. had it for 1 month. big !Removed! can and lowering springs, i was the man

    1993 BMW 325is

Nice entry into luxury car world, but again a lemon and was wicked expensive. all started with a burnt out headlight and went downhill from there. gremlins galore. still loved it and looked awesome with 18" Hartge from germany.

    1998 Lexus GS400

My new baby. absolutely my favorite car ever. i am biased but oh well. love the effortless power, luxury, quietness and look. am going to tint the windows and fix the shoes. still only 53K miles on it and runs like new. best car i have ever driven, aside from 996 carrera. :P
