I am looking into the purchase of a 2001 Black IS 300. The car has 187K miles but appears to be in excellent condition. Edmunds has it listed at over $10K even with the mileage and I can get it for a good price. Does anyone out there have high mileage on their IS, and if so, what key items should I look for relative to potential issues with the car? I appreciate any input.

I have a 1999 ES that I bought used in March 2005. It had a similar problem with the restraint light flashing. First of all, the manual states that if it blinks it has to do with the seat belt tensioner, not the air bag. It had been taken to a dealer by the previous owner and it still would blink periodically. I finally checked all of the connections and was able to get it to stop by ensuring all plastic connectors were tight under the front drivers seat. It has started blinking again once since March and it quit immediately upon jiggling the connectors.

I always have it on Auto, but it does it in that mode.

I have a 1999 ES 300 w/82K miles that I bought about 3 months ago. Enjoy the car immensely but one thing about the ventilation system bugs me. When the inside of the car is hot and you start it up, the mode automatically switches to recirculate versus fresh air. This is fine if you have the A/C on and want to cool the car down quickly, but it does this without the A/C being on. Then you just get recirculated hot air, no fresh air. Is there a way to change the default mode on this or is it just the way it is?
