trubr1t (or anyone!?) thanks for your write up. but I'm having a problem getting the antenna mast out of the car. after removing the nut and plastic covering, i have a friend turn on the radio and i pull straight up on the antenna as i hear the motor running. it won't budge. the initial problem is that it won't move up or down anymore. but i can't seem to get it out in order to replace it! help!

I'm reading articles about replacing the antenna mast of a 2001 rx300. I'm trying to remove and replace the antenna. like i read, i've removed the threaded piece that holds the antenna in. i've turned on and off the radio and HEARD the motor running. I'm unable to remove the antenna from the side of the car. its stuck in there. with the radio OFF, i grab ahold of the antenna. i have a friend turn the radio ON and i pull tension straight up. its only comes to about 12 inches in total out of the car, it never fully releases and comes out. what am i doing wrong? everyone makes it sound so easy, and the youtube video also seems like a breeze. help!
