  1. Ah I am not really that aggrivated. Just when I was all dirty during my only weekend home I was getting mad.

I will return the 25$ piece of crap and on a good note the new cable can be pushed in when antenna is up and it will suck it down when I turn it off. :)

I bought a mast on ebay for 15 or 20 bucks and was not satisfied . It was shorter than OEM and didn't adjust to am and fm properly am is taller setting about 6 or 7 inches. So I returned and bought a OEM mast from Irontoad.com for about 42 bucks . Works fine and It only took a few min. to install

  2. My 93 LS 400 uses 9003 bulbs. I believe the 94 would use the same. The 90-92 LS models used the 9004 bulbs.

H4 bulbs can be used also. H4 and 9003 appear to be identical.

The correct Silverstar bulb would be 9003 ST.

Sorry about that I meant 9003 vs 9004 instead of 4003/4004

Thanks everyone I think I'll try the 9003 st

  3. Last night I tried to miss but clipped a deer moving into my lane on the interstate.

my wife was sleeping when she awoke to a big thump on her side of the car.

When she looked at me fighting to regain control of the car fishtailing at 70MPH

she thought this was the end. A couple of seconds later we were under control and

I was telling her we just hit a deer.

I am glad that we had just stopped to top off the gas tank and that we had put

all the luggage into the trunk . That extra weight in the back helped I think to regain

control. Earlier in the day I notice low pressure in one of the tires and checked them

all I firmed them all up with proper pressure . I am glad for that also.

Now I now why they say not to swerve away from deer during high speed just

take the hit and stay in control . The LS performed Quite well .

Does anybody know how to replace rearview mirror on my 94 LS? other than

that and a broken marker light assy. and a some slight wrinkles in the side of the

door the LS took the hit pretty well.

I am most thankfull that my wife an I are OK.

  4. It says right on the cap of your PS pump reservoir cap to use "Dexron ATF". So any Dexron II or III automatic transmission fluid will be OK.

Yes the factory fill fluid in the PS pump reservoir is clear to light tan in color. Many owners mistakenl think the tan color means the fluid is dirty, but it's not.  Even the factory fill fluid in a 2006 Lexus is light tan.

I thank you and others that have replied to my post .

But I would still like a answer to my original question ....

Can I mix the two ???? or should I flush??

  5. dude, slow down on the typing..... you're all over the place. first off, your tranny fluid shoud be ANYTHING but clear! Normal oem fluid is red. Worn out fluid should be dark brown. Clear is not an option for tranny fluid.

I'm Sorry again my original post was confusing. I was addressing the P.S. -

(power steering fluid)VS ATF Dexron (Auotomatic Transmission Fluid)

    For the powersteering resevoir.

I Was in a hurry that night ...... thanks every body for bearing with me.

  6. I think I understand you BlackLex.  Someone has told you that the power steering system uses clear PS fluid, and someone has told you it takes ATF - Dexron.  The correct fluid for the power steering is Dexron ATF (which stands for automatic transmission fluid of course)  The clear power steering fluid is similiar in most respects, but the factory calls for ATF, and all ATF's that I am aware of are red, and that's what you should use.

I have heard that the Dexron ATF that comes in powersteering from the factory

is clear in color. I checked and it is clear in color (like ps fluid) .I suspected that one

of the lexus dealers that mantained my car before I bought it replaced fluid with

ps fluid seeing that one had rebuilt ( changed the rubber rings) on my pump.

So I called and they told me that they indeed do use power steering fluid when

replacing fluid ! So I thought I would check other dealers . I called six different Lexus

dealers and half said use PS and the other half said dexron atf (as in manual)

I could hardly believe my ears.

The fluid in pump is a little low and I don't know what to top it off with. I don't

think mixing the two fluids in a very good idea. I guess I will have to flush and

replace with dexron atf to make sure.

  7. I bought the car with 125,000 on it . called dealers that had mantinance on car

one uses ps. fluid and the other uses tranny(dexron) Like in manual

I would like to top up but I hear that tranny fluid installed from manufacture is a

clear color . I have no Idea what I have in.

can I mix or do I have to flush and fill with dexron

    I now have 150,000 on

  8. Oxygenated fuel is perfectly fine for your Lexus.  The fuel economy reduction is very small, and the reduction in carbon monoxide is significant.  Ethanol is one of the ingredients used to oxygenate fuel, MTBE is the other.  Both carry extra oxygen atoms on the hydrocarbon molecule.  This promotes cleaner burning, especially in the winter-time, when oxygenates are used mostly.  The use of oxygenates also improves the octane rating of the fuel, and in the mid eighties MTBE was used to compensate for the reduction in octane caused by the elimination of tetraethyl lead.

There is some thought that older carburetors may be susceptible to the ethanol, in that alcohol will react with the old neoprene diaphragms and such that those fuel systems use.  There is no component in a modern injected engine that will be affected by oxygenated fuel additives.

Oxygenates REDUCE emissions, so use it when you can.

I'm not sure but it seems as if everybody is confusing oxygenated gas with unoxygenated gas. I asked if unoxygenated gas was safe for my car because that is the gas that at the pump says boats, collectables, small engines, etc. ONLY

could someone please clarify? sorry for the misunderstanding

  9. Oxygenated fuel is used to reduce emissions in smoggy areas.  While it does reduce emissions, it uses more gas and hurts performance,

Is oxygenated fuel another name for ethenol ?

All unleaded gas has ethenol does'nt it?

Is the only reason why they have stated on the pump

collectable ,boat, small engines ONLY Is so everybody

won't use unoxygenated gas and thus increase emissions?

Emissions aside , is unoxygenated the best fuel for my 94 LS 400

    performance ?

Will it hurt my LS ?

  10. I scoped out the noise and it seems like its coming from the tensioner pulley assembly

can I replace the bearings or  do I have to replace the entire assembly?

The bearing can easily be replaced by itself for a bucks. No need to replace the entire assembly. :)

Bought a new tensioner pulley for 50 bucks + surpentine belt 30 bucks from irontoad

installed both in 20 min. problem solved . I wish now I would of brought the pulley into

local machine shop and had a new berring pressed in. oh well less than a hundred bucks and it runs quiet and smooth right from start up.

    Thanks everybody!

  11. Eleven months ago I bought my first lexus. It's a 92 LS400 and had 208K miles. I was impressed by the good mileage I was getting, about 23-24 all city driving. Throughout the winter however I noticed a decrease to about 17mpg. This wasn't a gradual decrease,  I just happened to notice that was the best I was getting. With the changes in temp. very cold here often zero degrees and colder, using the auto start on the coldest days, and driving on winter tires....could this have caused my drop in mileage?

Talked with mechanic today during oil change and had the air filter changed then added fuel system cleaner. Along with with these changes and warmer temps in the coming weeks I'm hoping this will help bring my mileage back up. My next step I guess would be to change the fuel filter.

Now here's my question. Where exactly is the fuel filter on a 92 LS400? Someone once told me it was in the gas tank....which would be quite spendy. I'm hoping I was misinformed but if that's the case I need to budget accordingly for this next repair. I've seen lots of post of fuel filters, but never one for the 92.

Winter tires probably have more rolling resistance than summer tires.

Warming your car up in the winter takes longer especially when you want the

cars interior toasty warm. autostart+10min. warm up . burning gas going nowhere

    is bound to drop mpg.

  12. Also its not the brake system, I had it checked less than a month ago and it checked out alright.

<_< You might want to try spraying silicone spray on the antiroll bar bushing

I had some clunking up front over bumps and that did the trick for me

Wheres the antiroll bar busing? Where do I spray i might try this too

there in about a foot from the inside of the front wheels . antiroll bar and swaybar

are the same thing. It's easier to get at if you take the wheels off first . then just

spray around the rubber bushing . on top if you can so that gravity can work it in

through the small gaps on top of the bushing.

This is just a temperary fix that should last months . If this is the problem you

have you will probably need to replace bushings in the future.

  13. mine drove me nuts and it turned out to bethe  waterpump bearings.  So I did the waterpump and while I was there did the timing belt, all the pulleys and tensioners.  Once one fails they all seen to follow and you end up doing the job twice.

My water pump was replaced with 90K maintenance . I bought the car with 125K

and it did it then too. From what Ive heard waterpumps last a while longer than that

and if they make noise they would go out soon . My car now has 140K and the water-

pump is still not leaking and seems to be working fine.

Does anybody know the serpentine belt replacement intervals?

  14. My 94 LS 400 makes a intermitent grinding noise from the front of the engine

when the temp outside is below 35 degrees untill the car is fully warmed up.

Has anybody else run into this?

I scoped out the noise and it seems like its coming from the tensioner pulley assembly

can I replace the bearings or do I have to replace the entire assembly?

    could it be something else?
