  1. So a friend of mine was helping me clean the throttle body and he accidentally broke a really cracked hose, so he tried to replace it. Since then I have been having this weird issue where I am idling at 1,100 RPM's until the car starts to get hotter. Attached is the image and you can see the hose that was replaced with non oem parts, kind of rigged up. What is the black plastic cover and what are the three hoses that go into it? I am trying to replace all three because they are all sort of damaged just from the heat over time.
  2. Thank you, I may very well have bent it, I had to use a prybar because it would not come off. I will check it out, I may just reseal it with some permatex.
  3. Pretty set on low fluid level. Found a leak for sure, going to redo the trans pan but this time with a gasket.
  4. I had the chance to start it up today and check it out some. Let it sit for a few minutes, same response. I noticed I have a very tiny leak coming from my trans pan. But could this be the culprit? If so I suppose that makes the real culprit for not sealing the trans pan better. Here is a video of what is going on
  5. Generally mine would be too. It's not consistent right now, though. Sometimes if I pop it into D or R it immediately goes. It's sporadic. I haven't been able to drive it a whole lot since I did the fluid, perhaps driving it will resolve it?
  6. Hello everyone, been a long while since I have posted on here. Recently pulled the trans pan from my 98 LS400, changed the fluid out (it was really dark and smelled awful, not sure when the last time it was changed was) and read up on the fix for p0763 shift solenoid c. I fixed that issue and the code is no longer there after cleaning the trans and putting all new T-IV fluid in. No leaks from what I have determined thus far. I made sure that it was filled up to cool after cycling P - L both ways. I even went ahead and d/c the battery to clear the ECU. I was receiving error codes p0420 and p0430 as well, but they seem to come and go. Now that 0763 is taken care of, the trans runs incredibly smooth and performs better than it has since I have owned it. However, upon starting up and going from P to R or D, sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds for the car to automatically go forwards or backwards. And in some cases, I have to give it gas up to 1200 RPM just to get it to finally move. Any ideas?
  7. She has been running fine today, I will keep you all posted.
  8. Just recently bought a 1998 Lexus LS400 from my uncle at 238,xxx miles (has been passed down and taken good care of by family). Three days ago I was driving home on the interstate with cruise control going about 70 mph (full tank of gas) when the car started to sort of sputter. By sputter, I mean I felt the car jolt forward abruptly, and then feel as if it was slowing down. It kept doing this even out of cruise. Eventually, my RPMS read under 2,000 and I began to lose speed on the interstate. I had to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get any acceleration, this lasted for a few prompt minutes before it no longer worked, and I just consistently lost speed until I was able to pull over to the side of the road. In doing so, I was unable to accelerate anymore. I shut off the car, and restarted it, battery light came on. I was able to take off and make it to my subdivison before it did the same thing, except this time turning over but not starting back up. I tried several times, and the battery never did die. Two days later I try to start it to load it up on a trailer, and it starts fine. I take it to a guy who knows a bit more about cars than I do, and he has it sit and idle for 2-3 hours. The car doesn't shut down. He suggested the possibility of water getting into the gas tank, or possibly needing to replace the fuel pump and/or filter. I drove it back home, and it began doing the same things on the interstate, now it is dead again. So I am completely oblivious when it comes to the subject of cars, does anyone happen to have any speculation or insight, perhaps guidance on what I should be looking at? Car also has an engine light, I tried to check it out and it didn't come up with a code. I'm going to go back out in the morning and try to get it started, I was suggested by an ex Toyota/Lexus mechanic to buy the chemical by HEET to remove water from the gas and put it in.
