Looked at a lot of posts but didn't really find an answer, so I’ll ask.
Bought a 96 gs 300 with 121,500 miles on it for $6800. Fair deal?
Car seems to be in fair shape, but not perfect. Average for the miles.
Anyway, the first night I got it the check engine light came on 15 miles after I purchased it. Took it to the dealer and they said it was one of the front o2 sensors so I had it replaced. Worked fine for day and a half and the light was back on, this time with an intermittent miss. Got the codes checked at AutoZone and they said id was P0305? - misfire on cylinder #5. Took it back to the Lexus dealer ship. We both came to the conclusion that the motor had been pressure washed and it may need a new set of wires and plugs. Dealership wanted $400 so I opted to call up a few local shops that work on Lexus - $265. They said they would like to see the codes before throwing parts on it, but the Lexus dealership had cleared the codes when I picked it up. It also seemed to be running fine so I wanted to wait under the CEL came back on. Everything was fine for about 2 weeks until my son went down a very bumpy road and he said the light came back on, but it doesn't miss.
I have not driven it yet. plan to drive it myself to see if there is a miss and take it back to AutoZone to see what code comes up. If it's still misfire on #5, I’ll check the wires and cap to see if they look ok on the front end. If it's the same code I would like to clear it to see how long it takes to CEL to come back on, but last time I was at AutoZone they stated that the company would not let them clear the code.
What’s the best way for me to clear the code?
Take a fuse out or unhook the battery?
Pos or neg side?
-how long to unhook?
If I disconnect the battery will I have to put the radio codes or any other codes back in?
Are these the last 4 #'s of the vin?
Sorry for the long post, any help appreciated.
