Regarding the 32 character requirement: the . and the extension have to be counted as characters. If your extension is .jpg, the you need a file name preceding the . that is 28 characters. That is what worked for me.

When I open the driver's door on my 2013 300h either when I am entering the car the first time I drive it during the day or after the car has been parked for about an hour or longer, I hear a rather loud humming/buzzing type sound coming from under the hood on the passenger's side of the car. The service manager at the dealership where I bought the car did not know what it was, but checked a 300h that was on the dealership's show room floor and said he heard the same sound but did not know what it was. He then said he followed up with someone at "Lexus" who apparently told him that the sound is the ABS brake motor making sure the pressure is correct and that the sound is normal. If it is normal I am surprised that the service manager did not know what it was when I first asked--could I possibly have been the first 300h purchaser to call that sound to his attention? Plus my owner's manual has a page that talks about the sounds you may hear with the 300h, and I don't recall this one being mentioned. If anyone reading this post has a 2013 300h, please let me know if you also hear this sound when you first open the driver's door after the car has been sitting over night or after it has been sitting for about an hour or longer. I solved my own problem. After much experimenting I found that the download worked if the file name of the image to be downloaded is EXACTLY 32 characters in length, as opposed to UP TO 32 characters as the owner's manual states. I made the length of the names of 2 images 32 characters long, in one case counting the . between the name and the file extension as a character and for the other image not counting the . as a character. The image with the dot counted downloaded. I then removed the USB stick, took it back to my computer, removed one character from the name of the image that did not download, plugged the stick back into the USB port on the car, and the renamed image then downloaded also. Sounds as if a programmer made a slight error in writing the code for this function. I have sent an email to Lexus customer service. I wonder what kind of response I will get.

I have been trying without success to download pictures via USB drive for the nav screen to display when the nav is turned off. The system is supposed to accept up to 3 pictures. I have followed the instructions in the owner's manual regarding names for the folder the pics are put into on the USB drive very closely, and although the system recognizes that the USB is plugged in, when I click to download them, the system says it can't find them. Has anyone experienced this problem and solved it? I also can't get the system to play music files from the USB drive. Anyone else have that problem?

I just picked up my ES 300h in Iowa last week. I bought it for $3,000 off sticker plus body side moldings thrown in for free--I think they list for $199. This would have been just about at dealer invoice based on invoice information I saw in the web. I dealt strictly over the internet and told the sales guy I would make an offer and they could either accept it or reject it, but I didn't want to go through the horrible negotiation process. He was able to adapt his dealership's usual selling process to accomodate my preference not to haggle and we made the deal in the matter of hours--the time to exchange emails and time for him to get his manager's approval. It was the best car buying experience I have ever had. Incidentally, if you are a Costco member, through their car buying program a Lexus dealer in Schaumburg, Illinois, will sell a Lexus for $700 over invoice.
