  1. Hi, I am not an experienced mechanic - simply an average worker with average income. So, I am looking for reasonable service price. My 2005 Lexus ES 330 is hitting 90K miles and I need to do the timing belt change. Could anyone recommend: 1. What are the line items I need to look for, when asking for a quote: ( Presently I am planning to ask for timing belt + water pump -- although the manual only states "Replace Timing Belt") 2. Approximate / fair reasonable cost 3. Where should I change ? Toyota dealers in San Francisco / San Jose Bay Area ------------------------------------ Some of the stuffs I found from this forum: ------------------------------------- I had my ES 300 timing belt done at the Toyota dealer last year. $800.00 for the timing belt, accessory drive belts, water pump, main oil seal, cam seal, and thermostat. I was going to change the belt tensioner too, but the dealer said it was still good. It's cheaper to bundle as many preventive maintenance services as you can at once. $950 $429 Did it on my 01 ES last week. $750 for a completed package: - Timing belt. - All accessory belts. - 2x timing belt idler. - Belt tensioner. - Water pump. - 3 seals (forgot what the name?).
  2. Fellow lexus owners -- i am a newbie with regard to cars -- in 2005 i bought a new Lexus ES 330 (2005 model) and now (august 2007), I am a gentle driver , now I have 40,000 miles on it. i have not changed my brakes. 1) how do I know when to change the brake? 2) Should I bring it to the shop to ask for it? 3) what's the normal mileage to change brake, for gentle driving? 4) where should I change the brakes and how much is the typical? Dealer or not? I don't want to spend so much money. I am in San Jose, California (San Francisco Bay Area). THank you for your help!! Jenny --chat about work---
  3. Dear all, I wonder if anyone in SF Bay Area has suggestions as to where to bring Lexus (ES 330) for minor maintenance schedule (oil changes, etc) where it is more affordable . Aside from the major service 30K, 60K, 90K, which I believe would be better to be done in dealer. The dealer here charges quite a lot for 10K service Lexus Stevens creek -- $189 Lexus Magnussen -- $ 155 etc... Does anyone ever bring their Lexus to Walmart Oil change, or something like that... ? Thanks Fran
