  1. This thought had occurred to me and I tried to move the wiper position but not knowing exactly which position it is in, I did not want to force it. I put reasonable pressure on the wiper and stopped before I thought I would damage it. Do you have a good description about how much pressure you should apply? Also I guess you are saying that somehow it knows which position it is in and will adust sweep accordingly. If it didn't shorten the stroke in the snow position it would wipe past the pillar.
  2. My 2001 GS300's (bought 2 months ago) driver side wiper sweep stops about 3-4" from the window pillar. I kind of thought this must be the way it is because of the 2 positions (reg and snow). The sweep must be restricted to allow for both positions, right? But I've been checking other GS300s and I've seen where the wiper was stowed at the bottom of the windshield and the dirt showing on the windshield showed it travels to about an inch of the pillar. In other words a full sweep and still hidden away when stowed. The service advisor (one day it would be nice to talk to someone who actually worked on cars) I called said there is no adjustment. From what I've seen, there must be. Anyone know how?
  3. This happened about 4 times this weekend. When braking to a stop (less than 5 feet from complete stop) the engine surged where I had to press on the brake pretty hard to stop where I expected. It was like I hit the gas and brake at the same time. Thought that might be what happened the first time but definitely not the other times (it would actually be quite hard to press on both on the GS300). Anyone had this happen? It is idling very smoothly so I really couldn't believe when it happened the first time. I was able to see the RPMs go up about 3-400 for about 2 seconds when I caught it the other times. I tried to make it happen on purpose and of course it wouldn't do it. Anyone had an experience like this?
  4. I've owned my GS300 for almost a month and my wife has complained when she puts her purse on the passenger seat, the seat belt warning light comes on. My solution, don't put the purse on the seat! Well, the other day I put a tape measure on the passenger seat and the damn idiot light comes on. That is way too sensitive. I asked the dealer but they said there is no adjustment, so maybe someone here knows something.
  5. Got the smudge yesterday :) Thought I'd detail the steps while it is still fresh in my mind. Grab bezel by the ribs in between the displays and pull straight out to release 4 clips. Disconnect turn signal indicator wire harness. Remove 4 screws to remove display module. Carefully manuever display module out of recess. If all you wanted was to replace a warning indicator light, this is as far as you would need to go. Disconnect 2 more wire harnesses from rear to completely remove display module. To access backside of lens, remove 3 more screws in front and release 4 snaps on top and 2 on bottom to fold apart. The front and back of module is now only connected by flex circuit. Total time was 20 minutes max to disassemble, clean and reassemble (only 15 if you don't drop a screw into steering column). The engineers did a great job making this modular, connectors can't be connected wrong, easily worth the effort. Told my wife I got the smudge which she replied "what smudge?"
  6. Thanks, that's just what I was looking for, now I'll know exactly where to pry.
  7. Just purchased a 2001 GS300 with 50K and have a few questions. There is a smudge on the back side of the speedometer lens that I just can't ignore. Does anyone know how to snap the front bezel out to access the lens?? It's pretty thin, I'd sure hate to break it. I was reading the manual and the maintenance schedule doesn't mention anything about replacing the timing belt, yet there is some discussion here about replacing timing belt. Do I replace it at 60K or when? If and when, I will be doing myself so if anyone can give me any "gotcha's" to watch out for, that would be great. I could use "gotcha's" for replacing spark plugs too. The manual also mentions something about a flat key which I didn't get. How important is this?
