  1. I have 103,000 on my 2001 GS 430 The shop says I need to change the timing belt. I figured it had a chain any way; I am having no problems with the engine. What are some of your opinions?
  2. I just purchased the 2012 GPS update for my 2001 GS430. I did a lot of soul searching about the update and finally purchased the CD. I have a Garmin Nuvi and wished I would have just spent the money on an update unit with life time mapping. My Lexus Nav. will not take me door to door and still you have to go thought the override process to use the system while in dive mode. The passenger cannot make a search or use the Lexus GPS while in in driving mode. The $160.00 mis the lowest price I found beware of knock offs. The Garmin will take me to door to door and the passenger can do searches for gas or hotels ect. while in driving mode. I do not work for Garmin but I would recommend buying a mobile GPS. You can take it with you if you fly or in another vehicle.
  3. Well I bought the CD update for the GS430 and I really cannot tell a lot different. It now has my home street on the map but will not take you from door to door. I have placed local address that has been here for years and it will take me to the middle of the street. It will not start navigation until you get to the main Rd. The unit will still direct me to exit to an outer road only to get back on just an exit down the road no traffic hazards. Pride come before the fall I just thought a $2000 unit was just sitting there and not being used and I regret the purchase. Yes I purchased the upgrade from Lexus an OEM for $165.00. Not that it is a large sum but for a product that you cannot trust is a large waste. I travel in several large cities and cannot afford the option of getting lost. When I fly I can always I can always take the Nuvi for the rental car. I will stay with the on dash nevi it has always been able to take me from door to door even in Chicago.
  4. The problems that I read were not finding correct routes. Having you exit off the interstates and directing you up the outer road when no traffic was present. But I have ordered the update I will see for myself will keep the Nuvi close as a backup. Thanks for the input.
  5. I guess I did not make myself clear on the question. I have heard that the installed Nav if updated still has a lot problems and the safety lock out is a problem. Even for the passenger to use. I can spend the $169+ on the update or just purchase a new Garmin. Need some input on the problems with the in dash unit.
  6. I have a 2001 GS 430 the Navigation has never been updated. What I have read on other post is it’s not worth updating. I have Garmin and it works great. but feel odd driving around with an in dash navigation unit with a Nuvi on the dash. I know I will have to replace the Garmin someday but which would be the best way to go. Update or Purchase?
  7. Thanks for all the help. I believe I will stay with the Nuvi. I have life time update with it now. Appreciate all the replies. I am still very impressed with the car. Allen
  8. I have reset and still have the same problem. I drove into town and pressed home. The instructions had me turn on a highway 2 miles before my exit. I traveled the route and after 5 miles it directed me to make a legal U turn and go back to the major HWY. Totally lost figuratively and possible physically someday. No the auto correct did not complete the sig
  9. Thanks for the response to my problem. I have read the manual and the only place I find to change is the (change route and route preference) is this were I change to other than highways. I have turned on the three options. Where do make sure there are no advertisements linked to my signature? I haven't placed a signature on the site.
  10. I just purchased a 2001 430GS it in like new condition with 86000 miles. I am very impressed with the car I have owned Lincolns and Buick. My problem is with the navigational system. I can understand not finding an address due to needing updated but totally wrong directions I do not understand. I have tested it in local areas knowing where I was going and it want me to take roads that do not go to the destination. I was very excited about having an in dash system. But I trust my Nuvi more that this systems. Is there a way to readjust the system? It has new tires but they are the recommended size. I disconnected the battery and reprogrammed the home and removed all avoid points and marked points. Dealer states I just need to update the system at a cost of $200. But the sites have been around for years. Sure hate to have a Nuvi on the dash and a brightly lighted screen for decoration. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.
