  1. Last night I was driving my family around in my LS and it was bottoming out quite a bit at slow turns, should my shocks be replaced? If so, I here that kyb is a good replacement for my LS, or should I just bust open my wallet at the dealer?
  2. Yea, I figured it out, there were a few unmentioned wires and a pop off clip at the top of the box with wires attached you have to maneuver out of the way to get the box out, but it was pretty obvious after that. Got it out and replaced my motor.
  3. I'm trying to remove my glove box so I can install a new blower motor, can anyone tell me how this is done?
  4. It didn't take him long at all, maybe 15 min. He also cleaned my throttle body too. He charged me like 56 dollars. This tells me it's not hard to get to. We just gotta find a diagram somewhere on the internet that shows you where it is. I'll see if I can find one tomorrow morning. Happy Thanksgiving :)
  5. Hey Exec, just pull the hoses off the plastic box. You'll have to pull the clamps back so you can pull them off though. Use some plyers to compress the clamp and pull it back. The box should come out with the rest of the plastic duct work as one unit. If your having some trouble getting the hose off after you've pulled the clamp back, just use some WD-40, works miracles. Old hoses just need some caressin'.
  6. Hey ExecLex, the filter is a screen that can just be cleaned and put back in. From all the research I've done through the forums, it seems it's not necessary to replace. Replacing those ocvs should take care of the problem if you've already cleaned the filters and are stilling getting the 1349 code. I'm not sure where the filters are at though. Let us know what happens.
  7. Ok, so I took my car to a napa mechanic after doing a lot of research, and told him about my infamous ocv. He cleaned out the filter and a couple other things, plus I think he cleaned my throttle body. As far I can tell so far, the problem is solved. Car is humming down the road again just fine. He did recommend me a fuel system service and told me I'd need new spark plugs if he did it because all the carbon build up being cleaned would crud up my spark plugs. Sucks cause I JUST replaced them.
  8. My car has pulled a p1349 code, which brings up vvt malfunction (bank 1). Are there any common causes for this code? I took it to lexus and they changed out some vac lines thinking that was what caused it, but it came back on. Granted, my vac lines were leaking as there was a hissing noise (like air leaking out of a hose) coming from my engine, and now the noise is gone. Also, when the car is coasting down the road, sometimes it will idle funny, like the engine is about to die. Anyone know what this might be??
  9. Can you tell me where they are located generally? I think on the older models there were drain plugs by both the catalytic converters. Is it pretty much the same with the vvti engine?
  10. I need to flush my engine coolant on my 98 ls400. I know there's a plug at the bottom of the radiator, but are there any other coolant drain plugs on the engine I should know about?
  11. Hi everyone, I have a 98 Ls that has a funny air vent issue. In the one of the center vents, there is a plastic piece on the side that is missing that helps all the vent fins move together. I noticed this when I tried to move it down and thought I broke it. Does anyone know where I can get this piece or what I can do? Lexus wants me to buy a whole new unit.....screw that
  12. So here's the deal. In the morning my Ls will rev up higher than usual at first pull away. I've read some threads where they say this is just a cold start and the computer locks it out to warm up the fluids. It will always ALWAYS switch exactly at 2500 when this happens from 2nd to 3rd gear. However, the dealer told me that it will need a new transmission in the future. It drives fine the rest of the day. Does everyone think this is a computer locking out the transmission or is it just a bad tranny going out?

In the morning, when I first pull away, my car will rev higher than usual (like 2500-2600 rpms) before it decides to shift into the next gear. It shifts smoothly, not rough, when it does this, and the rest of the time it shifts fine from a stop. Is my tranny going bad?

I just bought a 98 Lexus Ls400 and everything was working fine until one day the speedometer just stopped working, the needle would just stay at zero, and then the next morning while I was driving it started working again. Same thing with the tachometer as well. They both have been working on and off. All of the other gauges work. Does anyone have an idea what it might be? Also, a piece of plastic that is situated underneath the car right under the engine has gotten loose and drags on the ground. Whats the name of this part so I can get another one, or should I?
