  1. More than likely it is the rear speaker, however it's possible for one channel of an amp to go bad. <_< If it sounds garbled and it is from the speaker it means the speaker has been damaged and it will only get worse.

Can you suggest an easy way to test the amp? If it is the speaker do you know if I can get another from a different source?

    Thanks again for your time.

  2. Hi everyone,

Is there a way to tell if my rear speaker (’01 GS300 w/ML) is in good condition? It sounds like garble but not all the time. At low volume you cannot tell, but as the volume increases then you can clearly hear it. It started a couple of days ago.

    Thank you.

Hook up a test speaker and see if garble is still there, if it is amp is bad. If not speaker was bad.

    <_<

Thanks Turbo, I thought about it, but then I figure that if the amp was bad all the speakers should sound the same. I am convinced that it is the rear speaker only. I guess I was trying to figure out why. If it sounds garbled does it mean that the speaker is blown? I do play music loud, but never loud enough, that it would cause the speaker to blow. The car is out of warranty (50K) and I do think the ML components should last longer. Anybody else had an issue with the rear speaker?

  3. the headlight covers on my 01 300 are cloudy inside.  i tried cleaning the outside, but seems ok, but the inside are not clear.  any advice?  thx

Are you sure is cloudy on the inside or there is moister inside the headlight? I bought a can of PLEXUS (no relation to Lexus) to clean my wife's BMW plastic rear window, and then I used it to clean my headlights. What a difference. I just spray on the lens, let it stay on for about 10 minutes, and then buffed it. Amazing results.

  4. Are you sure they didn't send you the engine air filter, instead of the cabin air filter? I'm sure they'll take care of you if they screwed up and refund your money, including shipping. <_<

I'm afraid they did send me the engine filter, but when I called them he swore up and down that I had the correct part # to match the cabin air filter. They said I could send it back for a full refund, no problem. But that still leaves me without a cabin air filter. I called my local Toyota dealer, and they don't even carry a cabin air filter for a 2001 Lexus GS300.

I don't know who posted the previous message, but I'm not sure a Toyota cabin air filter is the same as a Lexus cabin air filter, seeing as they didn't even carry a Lexus cabin filter. They told me to call the Lexus dealer

I just received my filter from ToyotaandLexusParts.com. The bar code on the box says 'Element, Air Refiner', with the following part # 87139-50030 and it came in the red Toyota box. The charge was $25.50.

I just cheked the site and they are listing the price as $35.07

That is correct. But when you place the order it shows only $25.50. I just replaced the filter in my car and it is extactly the same as the old filter.

BTW-The old filter was very dirty. I drove out for lunch and the air was on high for maybe a minute and then it went into low. Before I would drive to my destination and the air would be on high for about 5 minutes. I guess the clean filter does the job.

  6. The original L-Tuned wheels were staggered with 18x8 +45 fronts and 18x9.5 +45 rears.  The L-Tuned parts are discontinued and these rears are some leftovers that are being cleared out.

The 9.5 is too wide to fit in front without some work done.  It will bolt on but it will rub.  I have seen a few put on 9.5 in front but it involved fender work, some negative camber, and even smaller tires to stretch the rubber to avoid rubbing.

IMO, getting 4 of these won't look good.  Unless you run spacers in the rear and do similar modifications, the front will look very aggressive while the rear is tame in comparison.

Thanks Neo. I see what you are talking about.

  7. My GS has black leather interior.  Has anyone found a way to remove the shine and give it a more matted finish?  I think there is so much leather cleaner/armor all stuff on them they look cheap!  The leather is in very good shape however.

    Any thoughts?  THANKS!

If the leather is shiney and hard, then you need to apply a conditioner. I use Lexol leather products once every quorter. It keeps the leather moist and soft to the touch. I clean first and then apply the conditioner with my hands.

  8. Hello,

I was looking a set of L-Tuned 18" Salina Wheels on EBay for my '01 GS300. The following is part of the description "The wheel in this auction is recommended to be mounted on the rear of your Lexus GS and is not intended to be installed on the front."

Could someone please explain to me why you can mont them on the rear but not on the front? Does size has anything to do with it? The size is 18 x 9.5, with a 45mm offset.

BTW - the item number is 7965586133

    Thanks,

  9. My race concepts were BREMBO's <_<

I just spoke with the Brembo US office. (the 800 number is under "contacts" on their website)

They mentioned that www.buybrakes.com is an authentic retailer for their product. They also mentioned the Tire Rack and some place in Florida.

Thanks for the info. I just happend to look on the bottom of this page and saw the www.buybrakes.com advertising. It looks like they have several options regarding Brembo products. I will most likely purchase from them.

  10. I decided to purchase Brembo rotors for my '01 GS3.

I have done a lot of searching in EBay with different prices from different vendors. Every single vendor advertises that his or her products are genuine Brembo. Is there a way to verify? Has someone done any business with a reputable vendor that can recommend to me?

  11. How do you tell the difference between II, III and IV. Is it only by the year or is there something else?

You are probably right, my '01 should be a gen II. I do have a friend that just updated his with same looking dvd like mine (v.03.1) and it is working for him. Same year car build same month same options. He is out of town and I cannot check my dvd on his unit.

Anyway, the person I got the DVD is sending me another one. Hopefully this one will work.

  12. Hi everyone,

I just received a DVD version 03.1 for my '01 GS300 which has the gene III DVD unit. I cannot get my DVD player to read the DVD disk. I am getting a "read error". I can read the dvd disk in my computer and I can access the directories.

The following part number is on the DVD=86271-33040, under that is the following number 464210-0337 with Data v.03.1

Is it possible that the dvd is for the gene IV dvd units? or the dvd is bad and my unit cannot read it.

    Thank you for your help.

  13. I am new to the site as I recently bought a 2001 GS 430.  I wanted to change out the yellow fog lamps to white as the car has the HID lamps.  My question is:

    1. What size lamps are in place?  I have been to several websites, ie. hidexpress.com and they say they are H3 and others say a different size 9006.  I don't necessarily want to convert to HID for the foglamps, just white halogen (hid style)  to match the headlights.  What do i need to do?

I have tried to search as i'm sure this topic has been extensively covered and the searches gave me too complex info (hid).    Thanks.

You need to know that the yellow lamps are part of the HID option. Another words, if your car has the yellow lamps then it came with HID. If you do not like it I'll be happy to exchange for you. I just think that you need to be aware of the fact that those yellow lamps are not easy to come by.
