  1. Does anyone know if these mirrors are plug and play with a 2007 IS? I'd consider swapping mine out if the signal lights were ready to go, but don't want to have to do a bunch of wiring to get there. Thanks.

2007 IS250: Mirrors: Non-Dimming Non-Tilting Set - Both mirrors feature Light Emitting Diode (LED) puddle lamps (part of the Illuminated Entry System) located on the underside of each mirror to facilitate entering and exiting of the vehicle at night.

  2. What this actually shows us is that gun control and gun laws have very little to do with crime, either for or against. It is the culture and population that does. In countries with a very homogenous population, which Canada had until recently, crime tends to remain very low. Look at Scandinavia for example, regardless of what their gun laws are (e.g., Switzerland, where almost everyone serves in the military and is REQUIRED to take their service rifle home). Countries that have non-homogenous populations, like the US, Great Britain, the Balkans, etc. tend to have more social conflict, less concern about harm to others, less of a sense of "we're all in this together" and hence, more crime. Even with strict gun laws, like the UK. I don't think the US is even in the top 20 for violent crime anymore, but people in other countries will always point to the US as crime riddled. We are not, we just tend to publicize it more.

  3. The bulge is only on the AWD. THe back seat is only big enough for kids, although my son is 5'11" and he fits if the passenger seat is moved forward. While the ES350 is more powerful than the IS250, it does not have, in my opinion, better "performance." It is front wheel drive, and all the power tries to put you in the ditch to the right side of the road when you hit the gas. I HATED driving the ES, and it confirmed for me that I will only have RWD cars from now on. The IS will drive a little stiffer than the ES. You need to decide what you want. A comfortable ride and plenty of leg room, or do you want performance and better handling. With a few cheap upgrades, an IS is a much, much more fun car to drive than the ES. After driving the ES for 2 weeks while my car was in the shop, I have decided that the only Lexus cars I will drive are the IS or GS. Possible the LS, but that won't be for many years as I am not that old yet!

  4. I have a 250 and really like it. I came from a Mini Cooper, and before that a Dodge Ram pickup, so this 250 has TONS of power for me. However, while my car was at the dealer (for a week and a half!) I had a loaner. It was an ES350. Even with the front wheel drive (which I discovered I hate), it was clear the 350 has MUCH more power and quickness. If power really matters to you, don't get the 250. Power mode doesn't do much other than make it feel sportier.

  5. My father in law is considering the Lacrosse. If you go into an American car with the right mindset, they are great. You are getting a car that gives you more features for less money, but be sure not to own it for longer than 100,000 miles My wife's Tahoe was fantastic until we got to around 95,000, so it got traded in on another Chevy. She loves them.

  6. I've had great service by my dealer so far, but I think for ongoing maintenance, I'm going with an independent. We have one here that is a former Toyota service manager. I'm going to see how good they are on my next service. The only downside is no loaner car. I've had my car at the dealer for a week now, but it's been ok because I'm in a new ES350. I wont' get that with an indy, for sure. I have a third car, so it's not an issue of having transportation, but it's nice to stay in a Lexus. I just can't justify the cost of service at Lexus if I can get the same work done elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

  7. I agree that Lexus is being pigheaded with the Nav thing. I could see if it was the law, or if all other manufacturers did it. But since they are pretty much on their own on this one, I wish they would relent. It doesn't really bother me too much, but I have cussed Lexus on occasion when I have to pull over so my wife can enter a new address. I agree with his assessment that the voice control sucks. It gets most things wrong, and takes WAY too long to accomplish anything. I don't understand why auto companies don't just contract out their GPS to Garmin or Magellan. Those guys really know how to do it, and we as customers would be way happier.
