  1. If you own anything import and haven't heard of Tanabe, you're not very focused on performance. They are a very large, well established, and reputable brand with a long history in Japan and here as well.

I have the same ones on my car, however that price is ridiculous. You can search google and find them for less. I also hope you plan on replacing the shocks with better ones, the OE shocks won't be able to handle the lowering, and the upper mounts, they will be degraded from age and make a ton of noise if you leave them in place.

i might end up waiting on this one than till next year if the car still runs, i have to get some engine mounts too.

  2. Looks good man and if your happy thats all that matters

BillyPowell do you know where I can find a chrome wheel that came on a 1997 LS? My left front is starting to peel.

    I found mine on craigslist.org

dont know where you are, but there is one in Providence, he has a car with 5 chrome wheels, he might swap you for his spare, since it would be a spare for him also...

dont cost nothing to ask.. 95-97 are the same

i would try www.kijiji.com its a big thing in my area, no one uses craigs or the bargain finder anymore. hey do you guy think i should just tint the whole tailights?, i just did over the amber.

  3. I can see RDM's point because of the area of the country he lives in.

This however may not apply to your part of Canada. I don't think your wheels look bad and wouldn't point and laugh if you drove by at all.

Looks fine to me but I live in the North East where the crappy roads ,potholes ,lots of salt in the winter etc dont allow Big Bling wheels to be used all year round. When they do they look like garbage from the elements and then I laugh at them!!!

What's it like up in your area of Canada Kuzwik?

in Alberta the roads are crap and yea winters are harsh, I didn't want large rims because I wanted to keep some of the ride quality and slow down the car, I changed my mind and got 17's. They are eagle alloys but I'm refinishing them with gritty polish as they don't shine like they are suppose too( my dad has this kit). Plus I wanted to keep it classy instead of large 19 inch gangsta rims. I have a VIP chrome grill coming in the mail aswell, and if your wondering about the blacked out over the amber tailights and front signals it was VHT nightshades, however most people dont apply correctly and it could look trashy.

  4. HI, i am wondering if anyone knows if the ALL RED LEXUS LS400 taillights are still available anywhere? For the 1st gen LSs, They use to sell on luxurymods.com but they only have the red\clear lights available now.

    Thanks!

I painted the amber on the oem taillights are with VHT nightshades as it looked dated, i just taped off the rest, much cheaper. My friends said not to tint the whole taillight as it would look trashy ( its the sandstone/ gold color)

  5. I am still not sure what you are doing (r12 or r134a) but if you do end up needing a r12 hose that hooks to a can I just saw them at autozone on my lunch break. You shouldn't need an adapter unless you are converting to 134a.

The kit from Toyota probably has the correct fitting for the high pressure side; I've used two retrofit kits and neither had the correct high pressure adapter but I didn't need it so I didn't care.

well i just picked up the retrofit adapter, doesnt look like its going to work, the one adapter that does fit doesnt have a pin to open the other valve pin in the air conditioner line. Not positive though cant know until my grandparents come again, which could be a few weeks. Meanwhile i have to open the windows which i hate doing because of all the dust, than that means i have to clean it twice a week :(.

  6. Sure, have a look! :whistles:

damn! how did you do that??? awesome, yea i think the gs300 rims look sharp on the car. Does anyone know how wide the gs300 tires are? i for sure want wider than 205 which is my ls400 stock. Im assuming they are 235 as its an 8" rim.

  7. I just saw that you were in Canada. Can you still get R12 there? If you are filling it with R12 a regular set of refrigerant gauges should work if you are filling it with a jug of refrigerant. If you are filling it with a can of R12 I believe you would need one of the old hose adapters. I have jerry rigged two different fittings together by cutting lines and splicing them with a barb and hose clamps; it is not ideal but the pressures are low enough you can get the job done. It might be easier to convert it to 134a, but you should pull a vacuum on the system.

I am still not quite clear on what you are doing since you mention a kit that you have.

The kit I mention from walmart is a r12 to r134a retrofit kit. It includes a few different adapters for different vehicle ages/types.

not sure my grandpa has a kit but he has r12 gas, i went to toyota and for 20 bucks they have the retrofit adapter, from r12 to r134 or whatever so i hope it works when my grandpa brings it next time.

  8. i have a link from kijiji, some guy is selling what i think to be ls430 rims, i will ask him to lower as a set of two tires is $500.

how would these look do you guys think, i was looking more at 18 inch instead.

also how bad would these look on the car

  9. In that case the seat is working as designed. I will say that the seats in the early LS cars sat very low and don't raise all that much. For shorter people I can see where they still might be low even when raised all the way. I saw someone mentioned about all the adjustments but even with all of them I have never been able to adjust the seat exactly how I would prefer.

yea im about 5 6" so im short, your having problems finding a good setting too?

Maybe give us a photo from the side of your seat raised to the maximum height. My barely 5 foot tall wife drove our 90 LS many times over the 13 1/2 years we had it and she seemed to find a comfortable position where she could easily see out. The 95-up LS has a noticably higher potential seating position than the early LS.

    yea ill take a pic

  10. thanks man, ill check my fluid levels as i have not seen any brake fluid leak. I can get a new accumulator does anyone know where its located and how to replace it.

Mine is RHD so I would assume that your's is located on the passenger side at the rear of the engine compartment, there is an L shaped black plastic cover over the pump motor/accumulator to remove simply pull it upwards.

will brake fluid leak out? anything i should know? Im pretty sure its the accumulator as my brake fluid reservoir is just under the max fill line.

  11. Hi. I have a right hand drive 1999 LS400 from Singapore. I bought an Auto Tap OBDII reader from USA to use on this car. The auto Tap does not recognise the vehicle. So I tried another brand here, and it didn't work either. It was suggested by one person, that there might be a factory code or password required, so only factory readers can be used. Does anybody know if this could be the case, or are the RHD cars different in some way, or is it just my car that has a problem?

Also, I wanted to have a look at a spark plug, to see how they look, as the car has just turned over 90,000 kilometres. The bolt that holds the coil onto the plug came out okay, but I couldn't get the coil off. It came part way, and felt as if it was stretching rubber. I assume it has stuck on the plug. I don't want to pull too hard, in case it does some damage to the coil or the connection down to the plug. Any thoughts how I can safely get this off? Many thanks. Cheers, Keith.

not sure about the codes, but i had a hell of a time changing the plugs in my 92, just keep pulling and turning, i thought i broke a wire at one point but hooked it up to my multimeter and was fine. Lol the job took me three hours and !Removed! knuckles, my 05 neon takes like half an hour to change the plugs.

  12. When you say R14 I am assuming you mean R134A and not R12. You can buy the retrofit adapters almost anywhere (autozone, walmart, etc.) for ~$10. They come in a pack with a few different pieces for different applications.

sorry i mean R12...just woke up its exam week, yes i was at parts source and all they sold was the same adapter that came with my kit, i need one slightly smaller or possible one is metric and the other imperial, walmart you say?

  13. so i ran the daig mode and nothing came up, so i need to refill the r14, my grandpa brought a kit over to refill it but the refilling nozzle that screws onto the line does not fit, i went to parts source and idiots working there didnt have anything. Called toyota and they couldnt think of anything and told me to call service, anyone know what to do?

  15. The dimmer knob has an adjustable level with a default full on at one end. If you put it on the "click" setting, the lights stay bright all the time which is very annoying at night. Therefore, Lexus installed a dimmer which automatically dims the instrument panel illumination when the headlights are on. If the exterior lights are off, the instrument lights remain on full. Like swo said, twixt that knob and you are good to go.

could also be a fuse, i bet there are two different fuses for the night and day dimmer.

  16. The seat raises in the front and back and I guess the front part on yours isn't working. Could be the switch, could be the motor, could be trash jammed in it. I'd start by looking under there with a flashlight.

hmmm ill take a look but it does work, it will lower and raise it just seems like it should be able to raise more, it could just be that im weird, i dunno.

  17. Lexus power seats are among some of the most adjustable that I have used. You should be able to get a comfortable setting. It sounds like the tilt axis of the seat frame is not properly set (too far forward). You should be able to easily tilt the seat by pushing up/down on the side adjusting lever. Find your owners manual and carefully check each axis for operation. It is possible that some motor or switch has gone bad.

yea i did, if i tilt it back more than it is, its more comfortable but than i cannot see as much as i would like too, i often find myself adjusting every day its really annoying. THis is why im thinking the front portion of the seat needs to come up more and maybe is stripping as this has happend on the recline function where it would twist the back half of the seat, but i fixed that already.
