  1. I have a 93 GS which had a broken cupholder when I bought it in 2001. I replaced it for $125 from the dealer. Expensive but well worth the savings in aggravation and has worked beautifully since.

I have the same problem with my 93 gs300 but I think it is insane for lexus to charge that kind of money for a cupholder. The only thing wrong with the thing is 2 little clips broken off at the back of the holder. I think I will try to just "jury rig" something to make it work before I pay that kind of cash to the dealer. Im not putting you down for paying it but I just would'nt.

  2. I have a '93 gs300 with a broken cup holder. Any good source for this? I have not had any luck with several online 2nd hand car parts places.

I have the same problem with my 93 gs300. I tried to glue the little clips back that had broken off but it did'nt work so it just pops all the way out and into the floorboard, lol.

  3. This has been talked about a million times on here...

Try a search, but you're not going to find much on a DIY repair, as it's pretty complicated. Best solution would be to purchase used WORKING needles on ebay and do a swap.

The needles are illuminated with a bunch of little tiny SMD's (tiny LED lights) in a row. But, Lexus engineered the wiring incorrectly, so after time they heat up too much and slowly burn out one by one. They heat up so much, that they can literally melt the housings. This is why it's nearly impossible to replace each individually. Only solution is to replace the entire needle.

Wow! I did'nt know all that about the illumination but thanks so much for explaining it to me. Can you get these needles from lexus? I guess if you could they would be expensive to buy from lexus. I had thought about just painting it with flourescent orange paint or something but that would look really crappy. At least I would be able to see it though. Anyway, thanks again for your response.

  4. Can anyone tell me how I can remove the spark plugs that are under the intake manifold on my 93 gs300 without having to remove the intake manifold itself?

Can't be done as I recall.

    Cop & paste:

Just remove the air intake box. then remove the throttle body , which should consist of two connectors and two coolant hoses and the throttle plate cable. all very easily accessible. once you have the cable, connectors and coolant hoses dissconnected, there is one nut at the bottom of the throttle body and two long screws at the top. slide the throttle body of the rod at the bottom. then remove the three bolt that hold on the big rubber gasket. now disconnect the three coils (which the little clips will break, but dont worry. after removing the wires and coil IMPORTANT!!! blow out all the debris in the alley due to it might fall in the engine while removing the spark plugs. perform service and dont worry if you mix up the coils it wont matter. just make sure the the wire go in the rght spots. then assemble together.

Thanks intakergs for your prompt and descriptive response. I am going to try to follow your instructions and see if I can get this done myself. I really appreciate your help for sure.

  5. I think you can find cheaper prices then that, i have my own mechanic shop, charge someone around 600

I paid $ 2 or 300 something for parts and I did it myself save $$$$$

I also did mine myself and was amazed at how easy the whole job was. I changed the water pump, timing belt, and tensioner all in a day's time and spent around 300 dollars for the whole repair. It was the easiest timing belt replacement I have done.

    93 gs300.

  6. before you bake them, try cleaning them up with Meguiars PlasticX. It made a huge improvement on mine and only takes a couple of minutes. Yellowing and haze that appeared to be on the inside were actually removed, especially near the top of the lens. It's worth a shot, if it doesn't work just throw them badboys in the oven.

    ----------

PlasticX is great stuff. I would use it even if you don't think you need it.

    Won't solve water problem though.

I have to agree that Meguiars plasticx is really great for cleaning the lenses. I tried it and I was amazed at how good it worked. I am a firm believer in meguiars products anyway. They have always performed great.

  7. Hello

I need your advice on my GS400, want to change spark plugs. What spurk plugs are more economic and good for my car?

here are they all of them are DENSO:

    Iridium Power

    Resistor Plug

    Double Platinum

    Platinum TT

    Iridium Long Life

I have heard that these new "e3" spark plugs are really great. I haven't tried them yet but probably will soon. They cost about 7 dollars a plug but if they perform like they claim they will then it will be worth the money.

  8. I had noticed a while back that the red illumination for my speedometer needle had been fading away little by little. Well now it has faded away completely so I can't tell how fast I am going and that is not good when you are traveling on the interstate. I sure don't need any speeding tickets because of a faulty speedometer needle. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how do I go about "fixing" it myself? I am an avid do it yourselfer so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  9. Hey, I have decided to change my own brake pads from now on to save some money and save on labor costs. I was just looking for input about front brake pads...cheapest websites to buy from..so far im looking at lexuspartsonline, but they just have 1 type of pad listed for 51$

I am curious to know if people use metallic ones vs ceramic..i have heard that sometimes the metallic ones can cause alot of noise problems...im still learning about alot of this stuff so bare with me.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have read that ceramic pads last the longest, leave the least amount of brake dust, and have the least fade. That's what I am going with when it comes time to change my pads.

  10. I have a 93 GS300 parts car that was wrecked in the front. only the front body parts were damaged so just about everything in the engine compartment is still good. I have used some stuff for my gs300 like the seats and various other stuff. but there is alot of stuff i dont need like the computers and such. Still has both airbags. So if you need something just ask and I will let it go for cheap and im willing to ship. thanks

I am in need of the cup holder if yours is still in operating condition. Mine just pops all the way out of the console lid because the little prongs that keep it in place are broken off. I also need the front passenger side power windows control panel. Mine still works fine but the burlwood panel has flaked off and it looks bad. Does yours have the trunk mounted 12 disc cd player? Mine works but always stops about halfway through the cd and shows an error message. Thats about all I can think of at this time. Thanks.

  11. You can have a look here: replace timing belt

Thanks so much for the help. I went ahead and tackled the job without any help from the internet and did it in one day, including changing out the water pump and it was a breeze. Ran into no problems and everything went smoothly. This is the third belt I have done and it was the easiest of the three. The other two cars were a nissan sentra and bmw 325es. The bmw was also pretty easy because it too was a rear wheel drive like the lexus. Thanks again for replying and for your help. Greatly appreciated.
