thank you for everyone's input - ive removed the third row seats and havent really seem any difference in gas consumption. also ive asked my dealer about the rear spoiler - they say that its more a less just a styling feature and that it keeps the rear window clean - for some reason they were really trying to tell me not to have it installed because rust might form from the need for drilling (b/c its not from the factory) i was really surprised that they didnt want to make a few $$$. what i think ill do is as a new aftermarket air filter and see if there is any difference - ill keep the board posted - thx

Thank you for your posts. In response, my 2004 is getting between 11 and 14 MPG. (by my own calculations - not the onboard comp.) Thank you, JD

Hello: I am the owner of a 2004 LX and I feel - as of recently - that my MPG has gone down and that I am refilling the tank all too often. In fact, I have always felt that the tank of my vehicle was insufficient because prior to the LX I had a 1999 Denali - and I didn't recall refilling as much as I did and currently do with the LX. I have a few questions: 1. Is there any recommended way to improve MPG on this vehicle <-- I know, I know this is probably the magic question for everyone these days, but anything in particular for this vehicle. I have 35k miles on the truck and have performed all routine maintenance 2. Has anyone heard of adding an extended gas tank? Anything that would not be obtrusive to the interior of the vehicle. Something to compensate for how much gas this think actually eats - so that I don’t have to refill so often 3. I know that the manual says that premium should be used - and I have used this octane thus far. But how about a lower octane fuel? I know too that this might cause a decrease in MPG - but can this be substituted without damaging the vehicle / engine? 4. Would adding a rear spoiler improve MPG - or is this simple a styling cue? and one last one... 5. I know that the 2006 has a revised engine management system (increased horsepower) - but do the '06's also come with improve fuel economy? Thanks so much! And insight would be much appreciated! JD

I took delivery of my 2004 LX from Rallye Lexus (Glen Cove, NY) exactly one year ago. Expect between $4,000 - $5,000 off the sticker. Let us know how you make out. Good Luck!

When I purchased my LX470 I liked the look of the rear spoiler but did not want to part with $2500 to purchase the Night Vision / Spoiler package. I figured that I could do without it at that time. However, after owning the LX for one year I have become annoyed at how easily the rear window builds up road "dust" - as after getting a wash and doing three days of minimal highway commute driving the rear windows builds up an obvious film of dust. Those of you who have the rear wind deflector on your LX's / LC's do you find your rear window becoming dirty easily? - or, besides for looks, is this what the deflector is actually intended for - to keep the rear window clean? And, if so, does it work? Besides the dealer and ebay, does anyone have suggestions as to where I can find a good deal on an OEM spoiler? ALSO - Has anyone come across pricing for the new 06 LED tailamp units and front grill assembly. I inqured at my dealership today and parts had no clue. Thanks!

Hello everyone: I am the current owner of a 2004 Lexus LX470 with close to 20,000 miles. I have owned the vehicle since new and I will have had it exactly one year as of June 18th. In this past year I have had numerous problems with the vehicle which have included the replacement of (1) a major front suspension component (If not mistaken, I believe it was a torsion bar), (2) the HVAC blower unit, (3) faulty rear sensors for the EAS, and most recently (4) brackets for the entire (left and right) center row seats. This is my first Lexus product and for many years I refused to consider the make – until I was recently sold on its “supposed” undeniable reliability. At this time I have another problem… There is a constant “crackling” noise coming from the truck’s exhaust system. When the car is on (w/ and w/o A/C turn on), the noise is evident whether I drive the vehicle for short or long distances, no matter the weather (outside temperature). When I shut the vehicle off, you are able to hear the crackling for an extended period of time. After taking my vehicle to the dealership, last week, I left extremely dissatisfied. The service manager said that this is a completely normal noise having to deal w/ the expansion and contraction of the exhaust system as a result of metal tubing heating and cooling. He even went on to show me a completely brand new LX which was lifted – another tech proceeded to rev the engine for about 2 minutes and then he turned the vehicle off. The service manager and myself then stood under the truck, waiting for the noise to occur. It took about a minute, but this “new” truck started to posses the same crackling noise – however, not nearly to the degree that my vehicle has shown. The service manager then went on to say that the noise might increase in loudness / amount in a year’s time – explaining the reason that my LX had a more prevalent noise. Upon returning home, I began to recall that many of my previous new vehicle did have the same noise (but not nearly as much) – HOWEVER this noise ALWAYS went away as the car was broken in (I would estimate at about 2,000 miles). Yet it has not dissipated on my new LX. Does anyone else know what can explain this noise? Is this a normal noise? Does anyone else have a similar problem with their late model LX? To best explain the noise – it is a popping / crackling noise that comes from underneath the truck at its midsection (between the driver’s and passenger’s doors). It sounds as if a liquid (oil on a pan on a kitchen stove, for instance) is popping - but with more of a clinging effect (metal knocking against metal) Thanks so much for any and all input – and my apologies for the long post, Javad.

hello everyone. i have a 2004 lx470 with a little more than 10,000 miles on it. about 2,000 miles ago i began to hear a low rattle coming from the top center of my dash - usually driving at about 40 miles per hour or more. recently i took my vehile in for servicing and while test driving it with a mechanic we were unable to reproduce the noise. regardless they took the vehilce in (for the 10,000 mile servicing, aswell as a few other things). in the end my truck was returned and they supposidly resolved the dash board rattling (because they were at a later time - while the truck was at the shop - they were able to reproduce the noise) by adding more insulation. once home, the noise came back, and this time it is louder than before. if i press down on the dash above where the navigation screen is the noise completely stops. the noise sounds like it is coming at the top center front most part of the dash where the dash meet the windsheild. has anyone had a similar problem - any suggestions before i take it back to the dealership AGAIN? THANK YOU.

Actualy the slide makes a lot of sense. why does toyota need to have TWO road going soccer mom full sized SUVs (Sequoia and Land Cruiser) that undeniably overlap. Seems like with the intro of this new plant in TX - they are getting a new Sequoia, a new Lexus LX based off the Sequoia and a "RETRO" Land Cruiser - w/ what I'm sure will be superb off road capaibilities.

I found this power point from an automotive organizion. Based in Michigan (where im sure there is much insight) they seem to think that the Sequoia will be redone in 06 and Lexus' new LX550 will be based off such. Check it out - page 5 of the ppt. - http://www.oesa.org/pdf/presentations/KimK...resentation.pdf. JJ.

Sam - I could not agree more. Major oversight. On both the vehicle's cupholder design AND the Lexus accessory dept - where ALL of the travel mugs sold are tall and thin. The only "wide and low ones" are just regular mugs (the non travel type) that do not have lids. I wish there was some sort of plastic insert (into the cupholder area) that would remedy this problem. JJ.

Does anoyne have the "Euro" clear font side markers / turn signals on their LX? If so where can I find a pair. I've been looking for 6 months and have not found them. It was no problem finding such for my Benz & Rover, but for the LX - impossible. Thanks, JJ.

Does anyone know where I can find instructions to remove the 2 "inner" tail lamp lenses (that are located on the lift down portion of the tailgate) as well as the third brake light lense on an '04 LX470? I have figured out how to remove the 2 "outter" lamps, but I am not able to figure out the others. I'm trying to add a tint to the lenses - I've seen it done on another LX and a very light tinting has a dramatic effect on the car's rear end. Later, JJ.

What's up everyone? The two front center cupholders on the LX470 are EXTREMELY shallow! I purchsed two lexus coffee mugs and they are always just about to tip over when I make a turn. I know that there are two additional cupholders in the center compartment (that are deeper) - but they are also MUCH more akward to use. Has anyone come across any mods that can be made to the two shallow ones in question - so to make them more functional? Thanks, JJ.

I know that these features are called CBEST / LPS (Lexus Personalized Settings) - however, is there a way to adjust such W/O bringing my vehilce to a dealer??? Thank you, JJ.
