  1. 1. How much should I expect to pay for knock sensor (both of them) replacement at a Lexus or Toyota dealer??? 2. Local auto repair shop can be an option?? I'm afraid to use them because I heard that replacing knock sensor can be a difficult job.
  2. Thank you guys. The fuel injector was recently cleaned. Also, it will be perfectly okay to have it done at none Toyota/Lexus dealer--i.e. Honda, Nissan, VW, Volvo--wherever the cheapest, right??
  3. Happy new year all! I went to Auto Zone and got the code. The employee said, two knock sensors are the problem. I looked at the thing and I believe the codes were P0350 (maybe P0300) and P0325.... Now, my questions is can I go to a Honda or Volvo or VW dealer to have those two knock sensors replaced instead of going to a Lexus or Toyota dealer??? (Only if Honda, Volvo, or VW dealer cost less than Lexus or Toyota dealer.... Toyota dealer recently quoted over $650 for a knock sensor replacement--I don't know if they that will cover Two knock sensors) Current problems include: 1. Check Engine and Trac Off Lights are always ON 2. Over Drive does not work 3. When my car's speed reaches over 45 or 50.... the car vibrates--I don't know if this is because of the Over Drive not working or because of the new timing belt and the drive belt replaced recently Will knock sensor replacement cure all of the above? Thank you as always!
  4. Vehicle: 2000 ES300 Mileage: 103,500 miles Very recent repairs: 1. Mass Air Flow sensor replaced at the Lexus Dealer 2. 90,000 mile service + Timing Belt, Water Pump, Drive Belt + Fuel Injection Cleaning at a local Toyota Dealer Problem still exits: 1. Still, both Check Engine Light and TRAC OFF lights are still on 2. Over Drive not working -- the gear does not switch to 4th gear/remains at 3rd -- RPM continues to go high as speed increases 3. I don't want to go back to neither the Lexus or Toyota Dealer 4. Toyota dealer mechanic last time told me that it may be the knock sensor that is causing the Check Engine and TRAC OFF lights to come on Questions: 1. Can I go to another dealer (i.e. Honda, Volvo, etc.) to have my ES's Knock Sensor replaced? 2. How much is a reasonable price? (Toyota dealer charges $650 total) 3. Can I have your opinion, please?
  5. OD is not working on my 2000 ES300. Currently Check Engine Light and Trac Off Light are both on.... and Over Drive is not working (OD button is ON position) Recently repairs and maintenance include: 90,000 mile service was done at a local Toyota Dealer; Timing Belt, Drive Belt, Water Pump are replaced at the same Toyota Dealer; Mass Air Sensor replaced at a Lexus Dealer; Fuel injection cleaning done at the Toyota Dealer..... Toyota Dealer said if the Check Engine Light comes on again, maybe the Knock Sensor has to be replaced as well... indeed, the light came on after I left the dealer. But, the mechanic at the Toyota Dealer didn't know about the OD not working thing. I believe it's a transmission problem.... am I right??? Now, should I go to AAMCO???
  6. Are the front and rear brake pads different for 2000 ES300? If yes, what are correct product number for Akibono brake pads?
  7. My ES300 now reached 105,000 miles and I recently had my car diagnosed by a local Lexus dealer and they recommended '90,000 mile service' which I haven't done plus Mass Airflow Sensor change and cleaning of Carbon Build-up--fuel injector cleaning. The mass airflow sensor was changed right away (cost $375) because they said it is the cause of the Engine Check light. But, I had the same light after the service, so I went back to the same Lexus dealer and they now said the fuel injector needs to be cleaned and it will cost another $300 and I declined. So, now, I have to do the 90,000-mile service that includes timing belt change plus fuel injector cleaning. Total service will cost about $1,400~ $1,500 at the Lexus dealer. 1. Is it a good idea to go to a local Toyota Dealer to save money? Will I save money there? 2. Will I have the same quality service (besides the loaner car) at a Toyota Dealer? Please give me your advice~~~ Thank you!
  8. Dealer loaner car should be driven within 'local' only? A long distance round trip is not allowed?
  9. Hi guys, My 2000 ES300 recently reached 100,000 miles and 250 miles after that, suddenly, ENGINE light and TRAC OFF light are on together. What should I do? I want to go to the dealer and get a complete check-up. How much would this cost? Then, I will bring the report to my mechanic and fix what ever needed. Please advice~ Thank you all!
  10. Mine is 2000 ES so the cabin air filter is located under dash and I know I have to pull the carpeting next to the gas pedal, but I can't seem to pull it all the way down. Should I use greater force? Wouldn't that damage the carpeting? I bought the filter online a couple months ago and I still have it in the trunk.
  11. Good information! I too have always wondered if a very expensive aftermarket spark plug can do a magic for my car. It is very tempting when you don't know much about cars like myself. Now, I know the answer. Thank you! :) Oh, what about the muffler then? I was thinking about MasterFlow.... OEM is still the best choice for mufflers as well?
  12. I know tirerack.com is great, but I want to have genuine Lexus wheels AND save money.
  13. Thank you all! I'm now 100% clear. :)
  14. I'm still not clear.... so, Dexron III Mercon is not to be used for my 2000 ES? I know it's different from ATF, but is it different from 'Type IV'? Well... I guess I will just return it and buy from Toyota dealer....
  15. But, you are not saying that only Toyota brand tranny fluid is allowed, right? Hmmm... is that why the manual does not even mention which tranny fluid should be used? How much does a Toyota dealer charge for a quart of tranny fluid? lexusk8, I always wanted to ask you which insurance company did you have when you totaled your '01 ES? Do you still have the same insurance company for your current G35? B)
  16. I went to Walmart last night and purchased Pennzoil Transmission Fluid (Dexron III Mercon) and also Pennzoil Brake Fluid (Dot 3) for my 2000 ES. I was going to go to a local Toyota Dealer to buy those fluids but Walmart was there and I just went in. I know Pennzoil makes quality oil, but other fluids are good too? Also, Dexron III Mercon is right fluid for my 2000 ES? I am also curious if ALL Lexus sedans use same Transmission Fluid regardless of model and year.
  17. Welcome and thank you for your offer! :D
  18. I love the fact that my 2000 ES300 has 16-inch wheels rather than regular 15-inch wheels. I know it's only an inch difference, but IMHO, cars always look MUCH better with an inch larger wheels; for most cars only 1-inch upgrade is enough. However, when purchasing a new car, wheel upgrade is so expensive and it makes me wonder if it's worth it to do so--they charge a very high price for the upgrade and do not even let you keep original wheels and I don't think that's fair! Therefore, I was thinking... if I don't buy the upgrade and buy larger wheels later as a separate purchase from the dealer, would they charge more than the upgrade price for same wheels? (wheel upgrade option usually cost $1,500 to over $2,000 and who would pay more than that for 4 wheels as separate purchase???) If they charge relatively same price, then, I can keep original wheels at the same price, right?
  19. Okay, I confess that I haven't pulled out the engine oil dip-stick nor checked tire pressure myself for more than a year now. How often do you check engine oil and/or tire pressure?
  20. 1. 2007 BMW X5 or 2. 2007 Lexus GX470 or 3. 2007 Acura MDX (99% dream; 1% reality) A close friend of mine recently purchased a brand new 2007 Lexus GX470 and all I think about these days is owning a luxury SUV myself. :cries: :P
  21. I owned a 2003 BMW X5 with Sport package, cold weather package and premium package. Wow... your 2003 X5 had all three--Sports, Cold Weather, and Premium--packages! BMW options are so expensive that it is very hard to find an used BMW with so many options. Lucky the person who bought your 2003 X5! B)
  22. Nice pic lexusk8. I'm curious what were you doing tooling around with the gear shifter. :-) I'm curious because I have the same car.... well, mine is a 2000 ES.
  23. What's AT Filter then? I see there are Type A and Type B AT Filters.
  24. I am sorry but I'm not clear on 'drain & refill' action. Is it... drain --> refill --> drive for some miles --> drain again --> refill again --> drive for some miles again --> drain again --> refill (???) or, is it just... drain --> refill --> drain without driving --> refill --> drain without driving --> refill (???) Also, is there a filter for the transmission fluid like the oil filter?? If yes, does it have to be changed as well??
