  1. I have a 2008 IS250 AWD with the 6 CD changer. When a CD finishes playing and the next one is automatically loaded an 'ERROR 3' is flashing. If I push the advance to next CD button and then push the advance to previous CD button, then the CD plays fine e.g. CD 3 finishes and CD 4 loads - ERROR 3 is flashing. I push the next CD button and CD 5 loads. Push the previous CD button and CD 4 loads and plays OK. Anyone else had this happen?

Are these factory CD's or burned at home?

  3. I need some advice from ANYONE who has heard anything similar about what I am going through with my IS250. I have had problem after problem with this car and I am about to pull my hair out!! The car is an '07 with 27k miles on it. I am currently in need of my THIRD set of tires on the front and am on my second set on the back. Let me first mention that I do not drive this car hard.....never over 70mph and I baby it to the point of ridiculousness. Anyway, we took the car back to the dealership when it had less than 10,000 miles on it because although there was very little wear on the back tires, the front tires were cupped so extremely that the road noise was horrendous and it felt as if the vehicle was out of alignment. Anyway, the lexus dealership argued that the vehicle met specs, and it could not be an alignment issue. They suggested that we contact the tire manufacturer because the tires were probably defective. We argued back and to make a long story short, lexus put two new tires on the front and "fixed" the alignment problem (that they originally said did not exist). We've heard the whole "they are sport performance tires, so don't expect them to last much more than 15,000 miles" but I just took the vehicle by a shop yesterday and once again the front two tires are not worn excessively, but excessively cupped unevenly and need to be replaced. This repair shop checked the alignment and although it read to be within lexus's specs, we were told that it is so close to being out of spec that I will never be able to keep tires on the car because of the camber (not sure if I am explaining this just right). They also told us there is no way to repair this issue by just "aligning" the vehicle. Now I am in the process of contacting Lexus again, but I am afraid that what I'll hear is....the vehicle meets specs, end of story. I am just SICK thinking that my first "luxury" car will be one that will cost me a small fortune in tires and drives worse than our Chevy Pickup that has 200k miles on it!! Not to mention I've had MANY other trips to the shop with this thing.....squeaky dash that had to be removed, rotting trim around windshield, etc. If anyone can give me ANY advice on what to do at this point I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks in advance!
  4. How do I remove the Inner (closest to the engine) screw that attaches the side engine compartment cover? The other fasteners are the push through type. Manual says to turn the single screw type fastener counter clock wise and that will loosten the fastener but I am unable to remove the cover from that point.

Second question. The salesman that sold me the car said that the car did not have a timing belt. True or false?

Not sure about the engine compartment cover, but as to the timing belt, I found this:

Timing Belt (except GS 300 and IS)

Replace every 90,000 miles or 108 months. A qualified

technician should perform this operation. (The GS 300

and IS are equipped with a timing chain, which

    requires no periodic inspection.)

IMHO, all vehicles should be manufactured with timing chains, rather than belts, but there is that whole 'planned obsolescence' thing that makes the dealers so much money.

    Cheers!

  5. We bought our first Lexus yesterday- an 09 IS250. Having waited until later in the year I think we did pretty good, but didn't get everything we could have.

Is the Platinum Shield (Paint protector, Fabric protector, Leather Protector) worthwhile buying? We held off on all options so as to keep our cost down as much as possible.

The dealer tried to offer us what they tough was a good deal by cutting the price in half and not charging us tax. The original price was $2495 for 5 years, but he offered $1250 (without tax). I just don't know if this is a good deal or not.

One thing we missed out on by buying a model later in the year is tinted windows. We took the model as is because the price was good price with the options.

I didn't think to ask at the time, but can dealers add easily window tinting? Is the quality good?

Have any of you ever had to purchase an extra key/remote? I'm guessing these cost a few hundred$ or so.

    Thanks

  7. My oil filter kit that I bought at Lexus has only one "o" ring. The "pinned" how to oil change in this forum shows two "o" rings. My IS 250 is RWD and the car shown for example is AWD. Is there a difference in oil filters for these two models?

Yes! There is a difference. I also have a RWD and was issued an AWD filter element by the Lexus parts manager last year. Upon checking the box before I paid for it, I discovered it had addition hardware that I didn't receive for my prior oil changes. The parts manager quickly realized he had given be an AWD filter element and swapped it out. Not sure where the extra o ring goes or whether or not the filter elements are different. I'd just insist on getting the right part for your car.
