Seatback Removal

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to take off the driver and passenger seat backs in a '99 GS300 so that the power seat motors/hinges/et al can be greased? My seats are not reclining/inclining as smoothly as they used to. It also sounds like they could need some grease. Let me know.

Remove the 4 bolts holding the seat down, carefully remove it, it's heavy. Set it on the ground on a blanket, flip it over and lube it up with a high quality synthetic grease.

To just remove the back, slide the seat to a position where the lower part of the back panel clears the seat tracks. Lift the seat to the up-most position. If memory serves me, there are two screws through the bottom of the seat back straight up. They are possibly recessed and hard to see. You'll probably need a stubby #2 phillips screwdriver to access them. The upper part of the seat back is held on by clips.
