sean116688
I have a 1994 Lexus LS400, approximately 210,000 miles on original engine and transmission. Recently, it has developed a very noticeable exhaust smell when running. When the engine is shut off in the garage, the smell is particular objectionable and stays in the garage for quite a long time. I wouldn't characterize it as a rotten egg smell, but it is quite objectionable. It is not noticeable in the cabin at all. I checked underneath the car when it was running, and it didn't seem to have any leak in the exhaust system. I don't have any code showing on the dash. Any help is much appreciated. Alexander the o.k is back
Xiang, Sounds like incomplete combustion byproducts. Check all ignition related components such as: wires plugs distributors and most probably a failing coil. Search the forum your answer is already here. Other things to look for: oil / PS fluid dripping onto heat shield or cat. If you or a friend has an obd2 scanner, hook it up and post what you get. I think obd1 was thru 1993.
