Brokedown
2001 RX300 with 35K miles: Problem: Sluggish behavior, oil leaking Dealer Diagnosis: Bad piston rings (documented issue with this model) Action: Warranty replacement of engine Question: Has anyone heard of this problem, is it related to or the same as, the oil sludge issue I have read so much about. Also told that there was oil in the coolant but it is not related to above problem....can this really be the case, sounds highly unlikely that its not related. Any feedback is welcome. monarch
Bad piston rings (documented issue with this model) Where did you read that "Bad piston rings are a documented issue with this model" ?? What is the maximum amount of miles you ever drove without an engine oil change? How often did you check the oil level inbetween oil changes? How often did you check the coolant level? Brokedown
The dealer indicated that this was a documented issue with engines in the Midwest due to some fuel additive. He said there was "excessive blowby" occuring in the engine which was a result of the piston rings. Apparenty there was a coating that was used on some engines that reacts negatively with the fuel additives. The car has had regular oil changes and maintenance. No eplaination for the bad coolant.
