BillyC
OK, the concensus seems to be that my starter staying engaged too long on my 91 LS 400 is caused by a sticking solenoid (plunger). Consequently, I have a few questions: 1. Is a replacement solenoid available, or must the whole starter assembly be replaced? 2. How is the starter accessed? 3. Is this a job that a "do it yourselfer" can handle? Thanks, BillyC 91LS400
90LS400Lexus
That is something I would also like to know, as my 90 LS400 with 228,500 does the same thing. I do not want to to ruin the starter, because I have heard that is big $$$$!
99lsguy
BillyC, This is a big job - $800+ probably @ lexus dealer..... its buried under the intake manifold in rear of engine. Procedure of major component removal: disconnect acclerator cable remove air cleaner/intake connector Disconnect throttle body Remove intake manifold assembly Remove water bypass joint obviously, you'll have to drain coolant/replace gaskets, etc....several items... If you have another set of wheels and devote the weekend....you can get it done
