No Cool Air From Ac!

My ac is on the blink again in my 96 LS. The evaporator, compressor, and drier have been changed. The sight glass is clear, but when I turn on the car and then the air, nothing!

The valve under the hood is down in the cold position, the controller works properly, the compressor is on and the condenser fan is running. What the hell is going on?

Well, at times I have seen that the condenser fan is not running, but later does. Even when that happens the air inside does not blow cold in many cases.

I live in Memphis, TN where the summers are damn hot and it's humid all the time, This is also the third summer that I have had it. I love the car but cmon son!

On top of all of that, when I least expect it the air comes on with NO PROBLEM AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!! WTF?

Only thing I can come up with is the expansion valve.

What causes that to go bad? Can i get to it by removing the radio, hvac controller etc?

I do not want to give out another $700 just to get that one thing right!!!!

Have the refrigerent level checked first in case it has all leaked out, the compressor pulley on the serpentine belt does turn all the time but is the magnetic clutch engaging?

The AC fan is designed to cut in and out and not to run continuously.

There are a series of air pathways, with servo-controlled gates in the ducts under the dash, that control hot/cold air mix. One of them could be bad. Try the A/C diagnostic, it checks for proper air mix function: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/3794-ac-codes/

Hope this helps
