averona1 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 '95 LS with 220k. When backing out of my driveway in the morning, the car goes in reverse with no problem. However, when I put in Drive, there has been a delay lately (up to 10-15 seconds) before it triggers into gear. Sometimes tapping the gas helps it get into gear. Today I counted to 60 with the car in drive and no movement. I pressed the throttle, but felt like i was in neutral. I checked my fluid level, but seemed to be fine. It looked low, but I assume that's because the engine was cold. I turned the car off waited a minute and tried again. Ultimately, it got into gear and off i went. Called my indy toyota guy and said a rebuilt tranny could be $4,000, but they don't do repairs. Any other options? What about the transmission specialists I see around town? Desperate to extend the life of my prized lexus. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
landar Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Typical operation for a tranny that is low on fluid. It is hard to check levels with the dipstick. Add a quart and see if it improves.
steve2006 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I also read recently that the Aisin transmissions can have problems with sticky shift solenoids, when was the last time you replaced the transmission fluid?

landar Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 So, you are number "3"? (bad things come in three's). Sorry to hear Averona. Are you ok?
