My battery in my key fob is just under a year old. I went to use it this morning, and it wouldn't unlock. I have a 2002 IS300 that I bought used. The key fob the garage gave me cracked and you had to be careful, or it would fall out. I had a new one made, but when I went to pick it up, the man asked me if I realized the key wouldn't work on the door. Evidently, this car had been wrecked, but didn't show up on the carfax report. They had to have replaced the drivers side door. The key code that is in the manual does not match the code the key man had to use to copy the old key.

I called a local key place and the guy told me he could try to get in, but if it doesn't work the first time, it will completely lock him out to try again. He suggested the next step would be to call a Lexus dealership and give them the serial number of my car so they could send a replacement key fob. He also said it would take seven to ten days to receive the new one. The trouble is, I still wouldn't be able to open up the door with the new one.

Anyone have any ideas what may have gone wrong with the fob? Can a new key be made just for the door alone?

Thanks in advance,

Bean

Lexus doesn't put passenger side key locks in them. I've also seen them on other foreign cars the same way. Turns out it wasn't the fob after all though. I had forgotten I was a Triple A member and called them. The guy got it unlocked and when he tried to jump me with his hand held, she rolled over right away and almost started. (Bosch battery less than a year old) Forgive the odd words I make up because I'm just a 51 y/o woman who just recently learned how to put gas in her car, but the hood holder upper thingy was broken off, so the thing would rest onto some sort of hose. This car was suped up for street racing. I was smart enough to put a small piece of rubber hose so it wouldn't reach the hose, but evidently the last time I put washer fluid in there, the tube slipped and caused a hole. That was a month ago, and I just think the hole got larger the more I drove it. I had been noticing pushing the clutch in farther than I had been doing, but that might just be a coincidence. I'm having it towed in the morning to a garage near me who I hope can replace that hose. I did ask the guy who came this evening if he thought duct tape would help me start it so I could take it to a garage. He laughed at me and told me at least I think like a man!
