sgriffith Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 I know this is an age-old question with Lexus/Toyotas, but I use Castrol Syntec 10w-30 in my 99 RX300 (bought it used & that is what had been used in it previously) and have been changing the oil every 3,000 because of the sludge issue. Does this issue still exist when using synthetic motor oil? How often should I change the oil if I am using the synthetic type of oil? I almost have 70,000 on the vehicle & they are mostly highway miles. Thanks!!
SW03ES Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Synthetic oil is much more resistant to sludging. I change the synthetic every 5k.
mckellyb Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Mobil 1, all my vehicles are on 10K mile changes. That's not a typo. I'll tire of looking at/driving them long before the engine has oil-related problems.
