airmani
I installed 275/40 R17 Sumitomo HTR ZIII tyres on the back of my 2001 GS430, they run pretty nice and i believe they don't affect the cars performance in straight line. The tyres I had before where the factory sport package 235/45 R17 tyre, they where dunlope direzza dz101 and it had much worst traction... I want to know if 275/40 tyres affect negatively in some way my car... since 235/45 is the original sport package size... Anyone has had experience in this? I think wider tyres in the back help improve grip in turns but might affect handling a little.. I'm really not sure this is why i open this forum... Any suggestions? The ONLY negative effect will be that your speedometer is no longer accurate. The reason is because your new tires (275/40R17) overall height is taller than the original (235/45R17) tires. It's OK to go with wider tires as long you keep them the same overall height. The proper size tire to have the wider, sportier look but still keep your speedo accurate is 255/40R17. In Japan they have an even wider tire that I use to run on my '89 Supra Turbo: 285/35R17. Your choices for 17" tires are: 235/45R17, 255/40R17 and 285/35R17.
