2000 Gs 300 - Camshaft Position Sensor

Recommended Posts

My 2000 GS300 does not start, it cranks but does not start. I have spark at the plugs. So I went to the dealer and explained the problem. Dealer stated that the camshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. I've ordered the part ($95 US) and want to replace it myself. Only problem is that I can't located it. Can anyone provide a description where the camshaft position sensor is located. A picture would be great. Many thanks. Ed

On the GS300 it's under the intake manifold. It's fairly involved to get to it requiring several hours. On the LS400 it's behind the timing belt cover on the front of the engine, also more than a five minute job. You should have the service manual to do this so that you have all the required information such as the torque specs for the many fasteners involved.

UPDATE: The camshaft position sensor on the 2000 GS300 is found on the drivers side of the block 2/3 back from the front of the care under the manifold. The next issues that I've removed the bots attaching it but appears not to want to come out directly. Again, if anyone has done this, suggestion on how to remove it would be appreciated it. I hope the manifold does not have to be removed for this simple replacement.

Thank you. I did find it but the CS sensor does not come out. QUESTION: Does the manifold need to be remove to remove the sensor?
