Will B. Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Drove to California the other day and this strange noise started happening. It sounded as if it were coming from the windshield itself, but I can't be certain. I think it had something to do with crosswinds - happened most frequently when the winds picked up or when I passed a semi. Any ideas? Is this common? It sounds kind of like someone blowing against a piece of paper or a blade of grass.

To my amazement whenever I drove above 70 mph or when it was windy the whistling noise came on. I took it to the dealership several times and they had no clue. I made a recording just like yours and gave it to the dealership. They ended up re-sealing the front windowshield and that took care of the problem. I was very disappointed with what was supposed to be a luxury vehicle. Since then the window visor has come loose, the cup holder has broken and the ash tray has broken from just normal use. My Camry is 10 years old and none of these nuisances has occurred to it. Anyways have them re-seal the windowshield - that took care of my problem.
jasonmystik Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I have this problem as well when going over 70mph. Please follow up...Did resealing the windshield solve the issue? Mine sounds exactly like in this video...

GX2008 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I had the same problem - source: top windshield weatherstrip. The local glass shop removed, cleaned and resealed the weatherstrip. No wind noise since. You should cover the mentioned weatherstrip and see if that would eliminate / minimize the wind noise at high speed.
JayN Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I bought my fully loaded LS430 at an auction (30 grand for 29,500 miles). I loved the car but for an annoying whistling sound above 60 mph. I figured it's got to be the windshield. Since the car was still under Lexus warranty I took it to the dealer. The dealer agreed that there was indeed a noise coming from the windshield but they cannot fix under warranty as it was not an original part. Apparently the previous owner had already changed it for whatever reason. Dealer quoted about $1,600 to change the windshield to take care of the problem. Instead I got it changed for $450 through another autoglass guy on-location at home. The noise is gone :-) Apparently it was bad sealing job of the previous windshield replacement; the autoglass guy would not warranty fixing it by resealing and was costing more should the fixing job failed. But he guaranteed that the problem will go away with a new windshield., so went for it.
schack Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 This isn't about wind noise from the windshield area but from the side windows. On my 2001 LS430 UL and now on my 2004 LS430 UL I have noticed the following: If the side windows are completely up (ie. as tight as they will go) they make slightly more wind noise than if I release them just a little. I do this by pushing the window switch just enough to relax the window in its seal, but not enough to open it. It's only a slight difference and it's hard to tell especially under noisy pavement or very windy conditions. Seems like its more noticeable on the front and rear drivers side windows but that may be just because I'm closer to them. Curious to know if anyone else has noticed this, and if so why does it occur?
landar Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 People have noticed a creaking from the side windows. You have to clean and apply a lotion to the weather stripping. See this thread -> http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41125&st=15&p=420076&hl=sonus&fromsearch=1entry420076
schack Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the creaking problem and have used silicone and and other lubricants to alleviate it. This is a wind noise issue and I am certain that the position of the window is the determining factor. Since I have noticed it on 2 different cars I don't think it's my imagination but the difference is very subtle and I would encourage other owners to experiment and see if they can notice anything, Maybe it's because of the double pane glass on the UL models but I'm not certain.
