Engine Problems? Or Battery?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i have a 2000 ES300 and sometimes when i startup my car, the engine dies, and i would have to start it up again and hold gas to keep the engine running for a certain amount of time and then the engine would stay on. Im not sure if its something wrong with my battery, or is it some engine problem?? hopefully not engine.. I dont really know how to fix the problem, it occurs every once in a while, and not everytime i start my car up. Help me please!!

Hey, i don't know how much of a help i'd be. But i had the same issue as you when my car just had the engine replaced. When i'd leave the car alone for a while, and come back to it i wasn't able to start it up it would start then the rpm's would drop and the engine would die and i'd ahve to crank it and give it gas. I don't remember my original posting or i would link you to it. But from what i remember it's a engine/gas related issue having to do with your gas filter or something along those lines, because when you start up the car some gas has to be in the chamber or valve lol i don't remember. but yea it has to be there so you can start up the car and keep it going. When you finally get it on and say you leave it on for an hour then turn it off and come back 30 mins later does it come on just fine? if it does it's because you didn't let it sit long enough for all the gas to escape becuse if it's gone then you'll have to keep doing what you do till it gets in there and finally stays on. hopefully someone can better assist you with my info. if i find my older post i'll link you to it, but yea i had your issue.

here is the link.

"That sure sounds like an IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) issue to me. There are several DIY guides on here if you use the search function. I've cleaned the IACV twice on our 1995 ES300 due to nearly the exact same symptoms. Both times it started beautifully from there out."

Thank you so much, yeah your symptoms and mine seem to be the exact same thing. Ill take a bit more look into the IACV and look at some guides and what not, I was really scared it was an engine problem, didn't want something like that. Thank you again.

Do you think that works for the ES300? The tutorial sounds perfect, perfect instructions, very clear. If it works for the ES300 I think ill give it a try.
