Diagnostics Without "check Engine" Light On

Hi,

I've never had a Lexus or import before; I bought a Lexus RX300 about 6 months ago. I have loved it so far. It drives/handles very well.

About a week or so ago, when I'd be driving down the road at about 45 + mph, it would sound like the transmission needed to shift again.

There was no other problem other than the engine sounding like it was "revved-up," and my husband said it was getting close to 4K rpms.

No other problems with the transmission. Just that "revved up" sound.

No "check engine" light.

The only other thing; now my gas hand is not working. It's just sitting on empty and never moves. I don't know how much gas I have; I

tried filling it up the other day and only got about 3 gallons in before it shut off; I assumed I had topped it off but then I read here that there's

a sensor that will do that, even if it's not full.....?

Anyway, I made an appt. at a dealership to have diagnostics run, but they said if the "check engine" light isn't on, then they would only be

guessing..........

Any thoughts welcome
